Artificial Idiocy, you know, the thing that causes enemies who you ECM to run away at super-MWD speeds so you cant finish the mission. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

More intelligent belt rats, for one, would be nice.
These days you can still roam around a system all day and slaughter belt rats in their thousands and they still will only send another tiny "patrol" in again, and again, and again. It would be more interesting if the longer you ratted in a system the harder the spawns become. Not necessarily more valuable, but there should be an increase in e-war and tackler ships, after all a pod pilot is running amok, and if counter-admiral "whotshisnameagain" down a podder his superiors will be happy

Laerise that is one of the best suggestion I have read. Would definetly provide more of a challenge without (I believe) too much work on the programming end. A very 'elegant' solution!

Ohh trust me a simple AI yeah, a more complex AI could prove a nightmare. But if they fail to pull that off it just means more reasons to not renew my sub. Also allmighty devs of iceland couldn't of you moved the thread instead of refrencing to it? ------ FIX THE BLOODY OVERVIEW ALREADY! SPEED NERF! RUN FOR THE HILLS! |

I honestly thought this was how spawns were determined when I first started the game... didn't take long to disabuse me of that notion. Still think it's a good idea tho' Dae.

This is the content of an old thread of mine concerning the matter:
This AI upgrade allows NPC rats to focus their aggression on targets they are supposed to attack and dynamically adapt their aggression when new targets present themselves.
NPCs will have certain ship categories assigned as their primary target and other as secondary, tertiary or even more.
All player ships will be sorted into those categories by their intended purpose. This can be done by assigning a new hidden attribute to the ships, a simple number that translates in the interior game mechanic into a specific ship category.
The AI routine needs to 'know' which ships are on the same grid and thus possible targets. Every NPC ship will then target and attack their primary category target, missing one going op the targeting priorities until a preferred target is found. Failing that the rat will target what the next bigger ship is attacking, focusing fire, or just attack the next best target.
This way frigates will target other frigates or drones while battleships will not waste their firepower attempting to hit those small targets unless nothing else is available. Target Prioritizing will give NPC enemies more purpose and focus in their actions, making them a more dynamic and challenging opposition.
I'll post more ideas when I get to it.
