as in eve you grind for isk, not EXP. but in fact they might as well be the same thing.
I highly disagree. There is little need to 'grind' ISK in EVE, and there is a *vast* difference between EVE skill system (which rocks, is bloody awesome, so on) and most other MMOs.
The only people experiencing 'the ISK grind' are mission farmers, and they don't get EVE to begin with.
hey we all have to grind isk to get more ships for PvP. but your right my example is fundmentaly flawed.
and yes as someone with a 13 work day I love the skill system :)

RIGHT, BECAUSE MMORPG COMPANIES ARE CLEARLY AFFECTED BY PIRACY. ALL THOSE BASTARD PIRATES FORCED CCP INTO THIS, I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY GUISE.

My personal vision of one thing they could do to tie the two games together would be this:
Based on factional warefare stats in the MMO, new battlegrounds open or close on the map in the fps game. FPS players are not Capsuleer's but just normal grunts and they create a character for whatever faction they wish to fight for (or have the possiility to join player corporations and fight for whatever faction they are signed up with). Then based on whichever faction's fps players with that particular battleground that faction would take control of that particular planet.
This would allow the two different games to interact with each other and would allow the fps players to have some small effect on the MMO world without making it too drastic of a change. Thereby both MMO players and FPS players get to play the gametype they prefer and still are able to affect the universe as a whole in some way.
This is just my what-if idea of how it could work though...we'll see if they share it or not. Either way I'm looking forward to anything that takes place in the EVE universe connected or not.

maybe this could tie into my idea and thus give reason to having three character slots?

Maybe its Optional, but its a severe break with the rest of EVE. That is what I object to!
Also, Im pretty agitated by such rumours because I played SWG for 3 years only to see it ruined by stupid devs who did not care about their players! And on 3rd of december I have played EVE online for 3 years! And I dont want to have a deja-vu if you understand!

Same boat with you dude. I played SWG forever. Loved that damn game. The NGE screwed everything up, made it into a kids game with no rewards or competition.
Luckily, EVE is not going in that direction. They are merely balancing out the ridiculously overpowered and borderline exploit nanoboats.
Also, don't forget that EVE has to compete with Star Trek Online and Star Wars: The Old Republic early next year. We will be seeing some revolutionary stuff coming out in 2009 to keep EVE up and running and interesting for new players.
I wouldn't be surprised if I saw eve's user amount go from that average 34,000 online during the day to 42 or 43k after Ambulation, and the eve universe FPS. I am a noob. Eat me. |

Ok. I was just kidding around, but there's too many ghosts of past forum posts shouting in my ear to let this slide.
I've lost count of how many anti-ambulation folks have been shouted down with the "but it's optional, ya moron" arguement. Guess what most of the anti-ambulation folks were saying. Basically "its a severe break with the rest of EVE".

Im not against ambulation! I am really looking forward for it! But CCP should keep it in style with the rest of their game! It will make a better product as a whole too!
Suddenly making whole or part of EVE a console style game, now that is what I call a severe break with the rest of EVE! Same goes with FPS etc. Its not EVE!
Ok, maybe if it was a minigame part where you volunteered by going into a holodeck room where you could fight it out. But that is a different thing from making it a major part of EVE.
But you are right. I will calm down until I hear the words from CCP itself. No reason of getting a heartattack over rumours!

CCP must be drunk, cause all I'm seein' is bad ideas.
LEGO ships? EVE Online Halo?
Hell.
No.
I've seen this **** before, a company gets to a point where they run out of ideas that are good and tend up producing a bunch of ****ty ideas they hope will do well because of a supposed player base they have.
"Crappy EVE movie? Sure why not, everyone who plays EVE will go out and watch it!" "Hey, lets do that idea that we where never going to do because it'll lag the hell out of our already laggy servers, and complete unbalance the game!"
CCP should stick to MMOs, and keep their eye on the ball.

It's only a crappy idea, if they make bad games. What I think they are doing is trying to develop the EVE IP. EVE isn't that well know even in the MMO community, at least by the casual players, so CCP wants to create an EVE franchise to bring that recognition and added value. More people get to see and know the EVE universe which will also help to bring revenue to CCP and subscribers to EVE. Some features will propably end up being part of some aspect of EVE, if they can figure a good use for it, that isn't mandatory for those who want nothing to do with it.
Don't forget that we have big franchises like star trek and star wars coming into the sci-fi MMO arena soon. They will attract a lot of new sci-fi MMO players just by their name recognition alone. EVE will be in a much better position to compete with them, if it achieves name recognition outside ultranerds and spaceship combat fappers.

I agree with the above poster that its a good advertisement move. Why do ppl go to check out startrek or starwars online, or even WoW; because they have a large fan base already... I never played WoW (I play a multiplayer game for pvp) but I played warcraft from 1 to 3 and liked it, it has a positive impulse in my brain when I get to hear the name; same with starwars, u liked the movies, you have positive feeling towards any game with its name.
If there are more games, or movies or any sort of MEDIA, with the name EVE, there will be more fans. The most important aspect here is environment and atmosphere, the setting. It doesnt matter if its a MMO or a RTS or FPS, its the setting that gets you interested in a theme.

1. Eve online engine originally was FPS based afaik. Pretty sure a dev confirms this in one of the ambulation videos. 2. FPS game was inevitable; it would be ooohhh so much more cool if the new game itself literally uses the eve online data. Whereas you train to use FPS stuff on your character just as you train for stuff like a gallente battleship. 3. Didnt like top guys say that they wont be doing FPS EVAR? Also in ambulation responses? ------------------------ Have you fed your slaves recently? -BRB Rens |

Bring it all in as EVE is the first MMO that could in any realistic way to do so.
Racing, FPS, sims(housing), real time flying, RTS(where you command from station the battlefield ships who are all human), resident evil(easy peasy), and all the colours of the rainbow.
There isn't one genre that couldn't be brought into the EVE universe.
Even PG18 **** could be brought in!

Not sure why, but wizardy stuff combined with eve made me think of this...
But anyway, I agree eve has room for it all. Imagine if every planet was potentially another MMO.
Or that there were crossover points. Like, lets say there is a Planetside sort of MMO that is ran along side Eve, and the crossover point was that Eve pilots could use the Planetside guys as their invasion force. So, there's Eve in which you are always a pod pilot, never an FPS sort of thing. Then there is Eve-Ground Forces, another MMO of the FPS kind in which players there are always the FPS dudes and never pod pilots.
So, as part of the new Sov system, you have to conquer primary planets in a system. In order to do this you need ground forces.
EvePilot> *dum de dum* spinning mah ship /bleep - **Incomming message from - LtCol Jack Ripper (131st Battalion)** EvePilot> Yo J.Ripper> We're all set. 200 Infantry - 50 Heavy Assault Mechs - 10 Battle Comms - locked and loaded. EvePilot> Excellent, Colonel. Load up. 10 minutes ETA to drop zone.
Blah blah yadda yadda *cut to Aliens scene* In the pipe, 5 by 5 etc. EvePilot> Give em hell, boys! First rounds on me after the Op.
We could shop their standings board for "**** hot" battle groups. They could shop our Alliance boards to align with what they thought was a winning group.
Crazy stuff, yeah?
