hello everyone,
got a question, what is a good fitting for a hound if you want to go ratting? also, what sort of level missions would you be able to safely do in it?
many thanks,

Ill say this in the best way how. DONT DO IT..FAIL FAIL.. If u wana do some thing in a Hound..Go to a belt cloak wait for a poorly fitted T1 cruiser try and pwn it while its ratting pod//salvage repeat. No not repeat try and npc in it....
Now 100% yarr free. Why are you called a pirate if u fly under NBSI?

I'd say you could probably do Lvl 1's in a Hound, but it might have some problems 'cause it has no tank...

Edited by: Tuncan on 09/11/2008 15:03:31 back then, i used to rat in a hound.
Well, the problem is the suckage dps, it takes minutes to down a bs. Try to hunt the gallentean bs ships, they can't do any **** around 100km
Usual setup, 3x malkuth 1xcloak -improved one is better cuz u need to first get away from your rats.
MEDS, 1-2 booster depending on your skill, You may use a damp - never needed on those rats - lows 2x bcu2 or bcu dunno which one u can fit, overdrive or a co-proccesor the other.
But mate, hound is not a pve ship don't forget that. You can do FAAAR better in a ruppy if u have skills
Aannd, no missions.NO Cuz there will be loads of small ships around, and ur rof sucks and ure dead if they catch you.

If you can fly a hound you can probably fly an AF, which is way better for ratting.

It sounds like a way to make level missions hairy with a potential for modestly expensive loss.
But if it makes you happy do it.
If you think corp is different than a guild or clan you have some insecurity issues.

the only way you can PVE in a Hound is ratting. You cannot do missions with it as you cannot cloak or use MWD and you have zero tanking ability..even level 1s will hurt you.
Ratting is do-able but not cost or time effective. First of all, you need FOF missiles... and you can only rat with these because since you cannot tank rats you need to not get hit. Only way to not get hit is to be cloaked.
Only way for bomber to have its missiles work while cloaked is to be inside 40km range. That is, inside a range that IF you get locked and shot at, you're insta popped.
Hence, FOF's are the only way to go.
use this loadout:
small smartbomb cloak II 3 malkuth cruises.
ECM burst II in mid or whatever shield resist or shield extender you can cram in there.
2X BCU II 1X CPU II
How - To:
Find rat BS's.
Pick the one farthest from the others, fly cloaked to it within 5km. Decloak, fire smartbomb first then the FOFs (which will now lock on rat as the smartbomb tagged it), count to 3 and re-cloak.
Fly off to 25km decloaking and firing missiles and recloaking.
Repeat from 25-40km range while aligned to jump out and standing still until BS rat is dead.
Rats do not activate their tanks while doing this as you are not in 'combat' with them..they dont have you locked and they are receiving damage.
Drawback to this:
Takes a ******ed amount of time to bring down a rat BS this way. You are far better off ratting in a drone cruiser (vexor/arbitrator) which can speed+armor tank the rats while the drones kill the BS rat 10X faster than your bomber will ever do.

1 x Hound
3 x 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I's 1 x Improved Cloaking Device II 3 x Sensor Booster II's (Plus Range Script's) 2 x Overdrive Injector System II's 1 x Ballistic Control System II
1 x Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I (Rig) 1 x Rocket Fuel Cache Partition I (Rig)
With Missile Bombardment and Missile Projection to lev 4 your lock and cruise range is in the 200k range. Ideal for ratting at 200k (obviously u will need to bm the belts). However u will use a crap load of missiles.
Hope this helps

Warp to 100km, always be aligned and fit for max DPS.
3x Best Cruise Missile launchers you can found w/ bonused damage
w/e for mids (sensor boosters, speed mod)
As many Ballistic Controls in the lows.
As pointed out in the thread, its far from being optimal.

hello, thank you everyone for your responses, i completely agree that an AF is much better for ratting, as i normally use a wolf :) but just for the sake of it, decided to get a hound. will try out the payloads suggested, and definatly wont try it in any missions.
many thanks,
dark

I tried this out the other day while waiting for hostiles in Vale. Might have worked better if they hadn't been Guristas (explosive damage is definitely not ideal). I couldn't kill the NPC BSs. ------------ Improvize. Adapt. Overcome.
