It was cool! I was in my little Incursus, and I warped to a station by "dock" then it has to warp before docking attempt, yadda yadda.
Anyway, it happens that just as I am hitting the cyno button, it says "Docking request accepted!" then I DROPPED MY CYNO AND DOCKED.
HOLY CRAP AWESOME.

Great you just admitted to exploiting on GD.
Hopefully we'll no longer have to put up with you.

Well it wasn't an exploit, nor was I looking for it to be one.
I undocked and the cyno was gone. So that means the cyno must have been there for like, a split second.

That helps me make sense of something then. I have seen cyno's go up by stations in systems where I knew the guy dropping the cyno had a POS in that same system. It never made much sense that they drop a cyno beside the base when it would have been safer to drop it over thier POS.
I assume you could do the same at a gate and jump. Both actions qualify as ship gone or destroyed. Obviosly you need to be there long enough to have jumps.
While I am sure it's not an intended feature, I doubt the nerf bat will come out to smash down the few hundred Cyno ships that get used a day. They are all junk anyway, every one expects the vultures to show up when one comes up. |

Well, typically you get an error when you try to dock/jump when your Cyno is active. It says something like "You cannot do that as Cynosural Field Generator is currently active" or something.
The thing here is that I activated the module during a dock process, which caused me to be docking, but not docked. So the Cyno drops, but does not "trigger" a Cyno timer, because you are already docking.
I'd imagine it has something to do with session change timers.

So it isn't a working effect?
After the 11th I will be able to covert cyno Purators so it makes little difference to me
Now if I can convince them to let me do it in Sov space, I might actually train a 2nd Black Ops pilot |

Station cyno is safer than POS cyno by a huge margin.
EDIT: i might aswell explain:
POS cyno: you place cyno next to shield, can appear 5km from it - thus you need to slowboat 5km in slow ship to "safety". Thats enough time for solo rapier to web you and hold for 30 seconds till gankfleet appears and kills you - all before you get to "safe pos"
Station cyno: you put it in docking range (a bit away so jumping cap wont bump from model. Due to HUGE dock radius on most stations if you land near station you are "0km away" - thus can instadock. You need to wait out 30 second session change times only - but its almost impossible to kill cap ship in said 30 seconds (even dread hotdrop is too slow because loading, locking etc will take time). There is very slight chance you might get bumped - but still its WAY safer than using POS.
Also when jumping to station you instantly regain capacitor after docking. At POS? You need to wait.

I see D00m does not fit weapons on their POSes, very interesting... It's about time I put something sensible in here, but I couldn't really come up with something so you'l have to do with this. Are you like really bored, or did you not notice this is my sig? |

I see goonswarm has no clue how to kill cap ship at armed POS.
Instead of smacking like CAOD kiddie use your brain... Back before we created requiem we were ganking caps around Frulegur area. In one month we got around 50 cap kills and at least half of em were at hostile POSes. All you need is bunch of RR BS and you can tank almost any deathstar in game.
As for tackling - dont ask me how they managed to stay alive in rapiers but they did. And if there were 2 rapiers tackling it was just too easy - all you needed was to swap places when locked by POS.

hardly an exploit... let alone even useful.
things only become exploits when GMs make the announcement that it is.
Not only that... you have to be 0km from station to do this... and everyone knows thats a bad spot to plop the cyno. Bouncey bounce then poppy pop.
The reason you put the cyno on the incursus rather then recon is because cyno beacons say "come kill me over here" ------------------------ Have you fed your slaves recently? -BRB Rens |

I wasn't about to call out corps in 'Local'.
I somewhat see the point of cyno by base. I'd still be more inclined to do it at a POS. Of course I'm not putting a regular cyno up with reds in sys in any case, unless it's combat coming through. |

Edited by: Siigari Kitawa on 09/11/2008 23:50:07 Well, I'm kind of wondering.
It would take some testing, but if you hover over the "Fleet Member ►" tab when you right click somebody, if you move up and down a bunch the option to Jump will appear when the cyno is dropped.
So....
If you dock then press F1 at even a split second afterwards, then the person mouses over Fleet Member while the Cyno is active and sees the option to jump. If pressed quick enough, the capital ship will use its capacitor to jump, and initiate the jump.
When it lands in the destination system, no cyno and no cyno ship!
Workable?

Just a shame you need 2 pilots for moving the transport ships through the covert cyno, but indeed the 11th will be a hooray day for scared people like myself being able to cyno my logistics in the dark

Timing would be quite difficult I'd imagine.
If this became a reality on TQ, I'm pretty sure it would be ruled an exploit, I just have the feelings its not exactly an "intended feature"
