In and of itself, the first stage is mostly "fluff": just "ooh shiney" stuff to get the technology base laid down. Once it's working, and if it's successful, then the scope is there to put infinitely more involvement in. Imagine exploration when instead of a silly hacker module on your ship, you dock up with the ancient ruins and go inside looking for valuables. Imagine a mission where instead of killing 6 waves of Merc BS, you have to go to a pirate outpost and assassinate Zor in his pleasure hub and actually rescure that stupid damsel in person.
The rescue hopefully with a couple of squads of on-board security forces, since one of the few ways a Pod-pilot can die permanently is to get killed while outside his pod. (no emergency zapping hardware around to move you to a clone incase of mishaps)
True but there is no reason in this amount of time the pod technology has not further enhanced and improved. We are surpossed to be immortals among men/women. Wouldnt it suck that we would just die if we were killed walking around a planet or a station? I am sure alot of normal lesser beings (Mortals) would be killing us left right and centre if that was the case.

I'm not crazy excited for the ambulation patch either, but I'm intrigued as to what they're going to be doing with it over time; how it'll interact with the rest of the game features, additional neat stuff, etc. _____________________

I think at first it will be mostly eye-candy. Yeah, so we can walk around in a station and see other people. That will probably grow old fast. Then we'll all go out into the pod again and shoot people.
The interesting parts will probably be in the third or fourth iteration of ambulation.

Edited by: Loc Maythan on 10/11/2008 12:19:32 Can't say I much care for the idea of ambulation. One of the things I like about EVE is that there are no funny looking avatars running around the place like most other games. Seems to me that this brings us one step closer to WOW. When they introduce the Leeroy Jenkins patch the following year introducing Elves as a new race and T3 ships that look like flying carpets, the transformation will be complete ;-)
I would much rather have their efforts focussed on something like atmospheric flight or landing on planets - things that are, well, more spaceshipy ;-)
Still, while half the EVE population is visiting virtual strip joints or comparing bust sizes, instead of flying around in spaceships, maybe the lag in space for the rest of us will be reduced ;-)

I understand you point of view. But from the devs i spoke to and heard talking in lectures. They want to keep the strict difference between the races and the look and feel the same as it is now. Meaning minmatar cant wear amarr robes etc. And the customisations of bars and stuff wont allow you to make it look like a gallenete pub etc. any chance you make it will be a minmatar bar.

Lookiong at what they have here, A lot of people are going to remain spinning in their station - since walking around inside gives the game away that you are not about to undock any time soon....
...or am I?

Well, we're all immortal because CCP really wants us to pay subscription fees, so I'm sure it could be arranged to have robots scurry up to the corpse, and trigger the medical clone to wake up somewhere.
