Oh yes, you caught me scouting and or making bookmarks. You remember bookmarking gates don't you? Guess not.
I'm not talking about an epeen board, but the current "how much ISK you blow up" is simple. |

Killboards are 3rd party tools. Nobody has to use any sort of killboard, or killboard mod, or whatever. If he can convince eve-kill.net to use something like this, good, but I don't think they will. I think the GMs should personally inform me of which players would be easy targets, and who hauls lots of expensive things around and where. Nevermind this Combatskill Rating System. |

Actually a point system is actually a good idea.
You get more points for killing a BS in a intercepter then you do for killing a BS in a BS.
Take out a BS with 20 firend then the points get split based on damage and ship size.
I really don't see why this sort of thing gets people irritated.
It would tell alot about a player without having to dig into all the kiilmails.
I don't it should be a replacement for current info but added into for a better picture.

Existing killboard already do this kind of thing but they result in useless magic numbers less useful than the Skill stat in BF3. Things are only impossible until they are not. |

Meh, not that big of a deal. It was just in response to the wardec thing everyone is complaining about, and then I hear someone talking about war decing "Eve University"? I though how lame can you be if you need to take out new players cause you need to have a KM?
IDC what happens to it. Let the thread die. I was on autopilot and bored.
BTW, to the player that said "what were you ganked in jita",,,, no, I lost all of my ships in low/NULL, never lost a ship in hisec, to a player anyway. |

Dear Leader is quite fine, as far as I can tell. We just coathangered ("Oh god Goons making fun of Abortion!") a few IRC titans, and our **** and pillage ("Oh god Goons making fun of ****!") of Tenal continues without any real resistance.
Preparations for the Jita Holocaust ("Oh god Goons making fun of the Holocaust!") continue quite well. It's rather amusing to see the preemptive freakouts we're seeing on the forums, especially with the "LEET PVE" guys quickly try to figure out how to tank a Freighter.
We're all looking forward to the day when we can bring such important and vital player content to EVE in lieu of sui... Jihadswarming ("Oh god Goons making fun of religion!") every industrial and freighter coming in and out of Jita for a few weeks.
Remember capsuleers: All of these sectors are yours except Jita. Attempt no travel there.
But back to the thread at hand. The fact of the matter is that something like this would require some API changes so that anyone could see anyone's skills -- at least if we're going to see this implemented in a player API system, which is the only place it really would make sense. Trying to retrofit the CCP "roll your own pilot" system to a "score" system would require a complete re-think of how EVE plays.
PVP is so dynamic that it's just... I dunno. I could, however, see something like that in an expanded version of the Certificate System, which would make certain things a bit easier to digest for new players. Especially if, say, World of Darkness or a theoretical new "Newbie Capsuleer" Expansion for EVE added it.
In short, I don't think it's a bad idea, but it could be done in a Player-centric system like player ran killboards, or "rating" your character based on various points systems, but... yeah, I dunno. Ultimately I think it cheapens the experience. I'm not a "Level 5 Ratting Jew, Level 1 PVP Ganker, Gallente Ship Spec", I'm Xython, proud PVE specialized Goon.
Having said all that, it would be trivial to assign various points to skills, maybe based on a specific skillset (Carrier skills aren't that useful for a Miner, for example) and then have a system read, say, a EVEMon character data dump and calculate the skills based on that. You could then, just as an off the cuff example, load up that URL, paste in your character, and it could spit out a "score" or even a pie chart or other visual metrics of your character. Kinda like how WOW-Heroes can take a look at your character in WOW and say "welp, you're pretty well geared for hit, but your crit rating sucks ass, here are upgrade suggestions."
In fact, if I were a greater Goon, I would suggest that a basic website that links in with the EVE API would work. You could put in an API generated with skill information available, and the thing could check your character and say "welp, you're doing ok, but getting that 4th Level of Evasive Maneuvering would help your combat ability." And of course, since I'm a Goon, I would suggest that such a website could have a few discrete advertisements and would probably pay for itself and maybe an EVE account or two in the process.

Lane Shift wrote:Instead of the usual killboard rating based on how much the ship is worth, there should be a combatskill point rating.
- Combatskill rating should be taken from what level skills you are trained in for the ship you are flying, weapons you are using, additional calculates from electronics, engineering, mechanics, navigation skill ratings. - Combatskill rating will be used to compare to your opponents combatskill and come up with either a positive or negative rating for the killmail.
Killboards are third party programs that use publicly available information about a kill event. What you seek is not possible without making skills public. This would be too much intel about an enemy.

Good at EvE?
Quote: - Keep the so called merc corps from war decing newbie corps like Eve University. I mean, how pathetic can you get.
Eve University is a well established corporation full of many people. Attacking it is no small matter. If they can't actually train their members to succeed under wardec conditions (and I would be one to agree that they can't) then they have no business calling themselves a training corp.
Quote: - It would show who the losers are that constantly seek out unarmed mining barges. Instead of giving them 250m in kills, it would give them a negative rating for sucking so bad the only targets they can take out are unarmed ships. - Clearly show players with no honor. - It would expose players that constantly seek out newbie players.
You get the general idea.
If that idea is that you're a recently butt raped E-UNI turd then yeah, that's coming through loud and clear. |
