Specs for the orca state "Can use 3 gang link modules simultaneously." Can they use 3 of the same type of modules simultaneously?
I'd like to fit 3x mining foreman link -- laser optimization.
Info on this module states: "While only one of these units can normally be operated at any given time, certain advanced units allow the use of multiple systems."
I've read through everything I can find on the orca, and I haven't seen any discussion of this.
Sorry if this is a stupid question...I haven't been in a booster role as of yet.

In theory, yes, but, only one would give a bonus, because, only one gives a bonus of all the boosters (the highest one). That's fleet mechanics, not boost mechanics.
So, can be done, but it would not give you anything.

so your saying that the command bonus isn't stackable for the module.

Doing so from a single platform gains you nothing; only the highest bonus from the fleet/wing/squad booster applies and since they're all the same, the first one negates the other two. If you had three of them spread between three Orcas, each one in a command position above you, I believe that miners in the squad would get the benefit of all three, but don't quote me on that.
EDIT: Quote: so your saying that the command bonus isn't stackable for the module.
On a single ship, no they do not stack. Only the highest one gets applied.

The second statement applies to gang mods in general; most ships that can run gang mods can only use one at a time total, not one type of module at a time.
Just like Fleet Command Ships, the first statement trumps the second so you could run one each of the three mining gang mods. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

No only the highest gang bonus in your command tree will benefit your command tree. So in your example only the orca pilot in a fleet/wing/squad booster position (default leader) with the highest skill (gang bonus) will be used for the people in that command tree (best have the highest bonus in the highest possible booster position to make sure all wing and squad members get that bonus).
Identical gang modules never ever stack, only the highest bonus counts.

Rgr...thanks. I guess that makes sense.

Some of you guys seem to know a bit about gang links so could someone help me out please?
This toon is flying an Orca, in gang, set as fleet booster and running both Laser Optimization and Field Enhancer gang links however my gang mates tell me they are not receiving any bonuses at all! Am I doing something wrong?

My guess would be is that your set up as the fleet commander or wing commander without the appropriate fleet command or wing command skill. Try this: Make yourself the squad leader and have everyone that needs the bonus be in your squad. This is what I haft to do when mining with my alts and/or others.

Fleets are built from lowest to highest, so you need to be the lowest booster first, ie, Squad Commander.
If you have less then 11 people in gang, you should have a Squad Commander (bonuses) and 10 squad members. Not until after should you fill the wing and fleet commander roles. And you should be the squad booster then (automatic if you move to squad command post).

AH HA!! That works. I understand now that the description for the gang links is what was confusing me..."Must be fleet booster for link to work". So a gang with a squad commander but no fleet or wing commanders still counts as a fleet.
Thanks for that guys. Most helpful |
