So, the idea is pretty simple i dont know if this has come up yet though.
Currently Motherships are considered ineffective and unusefull, they are more or less pimped carriers whith which you have to sacrifice a char.
As some basic values lets say it had:
- 2 Manufacturing Slots(0.765x Speed Factor; 1.1 Mineral Cost Factor)
- 3 Research Slots which can be either used as copying/inventing/M.E./P.E.
with (0.65 Speed Factor).
This would give it the ability to produce for example Cap Booster at the frontline in a Battle and resupply the fleet if needed, and when in peace being able to help with BPO's/BPC's at higher speed.
It's described as a Logistic and therefore since it cannot be docked/repackaged there wouldnt be to much problem with the DB when this would be applied to something not static.
This should make Motherships more useful and also give them a better explanation of the name "Mother" by being able to supply/help everyone in everyday's needs, and not just something that sits and rotts at a POS the most of the time.

Makes sense. The RL mothership theory is a ship capable of completely supporting and supplying a fleet of other ships.

Isnt the main thing about a mothership that it can combat load a clone vat bay and bring a large army through a cyno w/o a titan or jump bridge?

I dont see JC's being used that much, and Motherships have nothing to do with jump bridges.

I like it. Capital ships, and motherships and titans in particular, should be more support, the way the works now is simply fighters deploy (aka: hot drop and gankage).

An awesome idea. Something to improve upon it though: What about a feature that allows you to launch drones and then let's you transfer drone control to other ships? Maybe it could be a mothership only capability. Essentially, the reason is that the mothership could manufacture drones and then give them to people within a fleet.

/facepalm Carriers and moms already do that. You can assign your fighters to other players. They can even warp to follow. ========== I actually proposed a shipboard factory ages ago so I do have to say it's a neat idea. It would make the mom more useful and less of a prison, you can actually do something between the fleet ops.
That said I also think it would be nice to have an actual factory ship (which was the second half of the suggestion from ages ago) -So says Xindi Kraid

The only concern would be how to deal with production runs finishing while the player is offline. The simplest way would be to fail the production run / research on logout, but not exactly a fair one since they can take some time. Alternatively could allow production runs finish even while offline. No idea how the game engine deals with this, however.

Make it so only the pilot can install jobs while in the ship. The jobs complete as normal while the player delivers the job when they come back. -So says Xindi Kraid

I would see it just like in stations, if the job finishes the player has to go under Manufacturing & Research job and deliver.
It seldomly happens that a player leaves the Mothership(high risk of getting stolen). And jobs can only be started and finished while in the ship.
