also, I could swear I may of possibly gotten this link from here, maybe another forum. Never the less, an excellent read and so very true.
how many have you done? I've done all 10 save for meeting a gold seller outside of random tells/conversations begging for something. |

* 1 - Camp and grind * 2 - PVP * 3 - Go Cold Turkey * 4 - Make some actual friends * 5 - Go nocturnal * 6 - Run a guild * 7 - Find yourself nerfed * 8 - Set your alarm clock for a virtual event * 9 - Survive The First Three Months * 10 - Meet a Chinese gold seller
I've never alarm clocked an OP or met an isk farmer (except very briefly before I killed them) but done most of the others
edit: I've never felt ''nerfed'' either tbh, because I cross trained ALL races from day one, so I feel just as comfortable in any ship in the game |

people who specialize are usually training that spec still to l5 for several months for that tiny extra 2%. Everyone else is training more skills to l4 |

* 1 - Camp and grind - i guess ratting counts * 2 - PVP - obviously * 3 - Go Cold Turkey - did it for three months * 4 - Make some actual friends - Haven't done this. I became better friends with a kid I knew IRL because we played GW together if that counts. * 5 - Go nocturnal - My latest up is three AM. * 6 - Run a guild - I ran a corporation for a little while. It collapsed * 7 - Find yourself nerfed - Apparently I just got nerfed but I can't tell the difference * 8 - Set your alarm clock for a virtual event - have not done this * 9 - Survive The First Three Months - done this twice, quit wow in one month * 10 - Meet a Chinese gold seller - I sold a Chinese kid a study guide for a biology test for 40 platinum in guild wars.

I've done all of these things.
* 1 - Camp and grind Everquest 1 - That game was nothing BUT grind. Leveling was a grind. Tradeskills was a grind. Raiding was a grind. ****ing Vex Thal key was the ULTIMATE grind. "****, Maiden's Eye spawn got KSed AGAIN! Son of a *****, guess I'm camping this ***** for ANOTHER 6-9 hours "
* 2 - PVP UO, WoW, and EVE.
* 3 - Go Cold Turkey Several times actually. Not really interesting reasons as most of them was because of school or work related. The longest was a month and a half.
* 4 - Make some actual friends Met 2 people in EQ who lived in the same city I did and him and his brother have been RL friends of mine for the last 9 years.
* 5 - Go nocturnal Did this in EVE. Used to work a second shift job. Soon as I'd get off work would play all night and sleep during the mornings.
* 6 - Run a guild Did this in WoW. Guild drama had become a major problem when the priests got all whiny about loot. They all had different ideas on how MC/BWL loot should be handled and it caused a divide among members with people taking sides. Me and the co-guild leader (one of the RL friends I mentioned above) decided it wasn't worth it any more because it felt like a virtual daycare dealing with all these children every time we logged in so we passed leadership to someone else. As I understand it the problems then got worse when the new leader appointed his friends, whom where ages 15 and 16, guild officers.
* 7 - Find yourself nerfed I played a druid in WoW. BC actually gave us the ability to stand on our own as a tank in group situations. Warriors cried like babies because they felt their "job" was threatened so Blizzard nerfed druids tanking ability by half only to reverse that nerf a year later when no warriors wanted to tank for the last 8 months.
* 8 - Set your alarm clock for a virtual event Everquest 1 - When something was expected to spawn at a certain time we where there waiting for it to spawn. Competition to get boss spawns was fierce in that game.
If changing a skill in EVE is considered a virtual event than many countless times more.
* 9 - Survive The First Three Months WoW - Started day one and played it through until about a year after BC launched. I didn't know about EVE until some time after BC. I honestly wish I would have played EVE instead.
* 10 - Meet a Chinese gold seller I had a business agreement with one. After talking with him at length it was revealed to me that they each had a quota they had to fill each week and any left overs they where free to do what they wanted with. I had a deal where I would buy his excess essence of water from him at a slightly reduced price (I bought in bulk) than market value. I would turn those essences into Robes of Winter Night that I would make a nice profit from.

Yes to all. I guess setting my alarm to change my skill counts as a virtual event.

I find it interesting that EVE is the only MMO game where camping primarily refers to sitting and waiting on a player to spawn.
...grinding though refers to the usual "kill NPCs, then kill more...and more" ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. It's given freely and only grudgingly withdrawn. |
