It seems every time someone complains about this, or wants to change that, it seems that the collective entity that is "the forum" accuses said person of "crying"
My question is, how should such suggestions be presented to avoid the wrath of the forum goers

It's a MMORPG forum, even a publisher/developer hosted one. Such things are expected to happen and you can't avoid them (cause there's always someone thinking a bit different). Just post in the suggestions forum further down on the forum overview. Just rmeember that even complaining people keep a topic on top. [100% constructive post, hah, take that!] :) Looking for more thoughts? Read my blog or follow me on Twitter. |

It's the very nature of MMO forums really. You have so many people, each with their own opinions on what is fine and what is not, and because everyone is directly or indirectly affected by any changes to any system, it leads to very polarizing behavior; some will cry nerfs, others will cry buffs, and most people that even slightly suspect a suggestion will not be in their advantage will (consciously or not) make an ad-hominem argument. It's the very nature of people.
That said, I'm not saying that any reply is unjustified, and that every thread warrants a real discussion. There are some really daft ideas and troll threads out there.
My suggestion is to simply make a post on what concerns you, and then expect people to post nonsense in it. Keep the discussion on your end civil and some other readers might just see your thread and offer you their views in a serious manner as well. Just don't expect it to happen too often.

Ah the age old question..
You have to understand this forum is mostly used by people who want to get away from there own pathetic worthless lives. A place they can act big and hard even untouchable..
The fact is they're probably fat, in no way hard...quite the opposite and addicted to cake & possibly not seen their own genitals in years due to burger consumption. That was in no way a reference to a country which is Eves largest player base a few thousand miles west of the UK.....
Getting proper replies is as hard as those people mentioned above losing weight. Have you seen the percentage of obese people in the above mentioned country which I have not named but you know which one anyway?
The guys who do little 1 liners who think they're funny but not.
The Eve forum isn't a place to come for a nice topic. because quite simply the trollage here is crazy. |

Most of that I've seen accused of "crying" on the forums often ask (or demand) for a change that benifits them, but with little thought to how it would impact everyone else or what other issues would be caused by such a change.
Most of those that are not often take time to identify a problem, recommend a solution, and are willing to consider alternative suggestions from other players even if they did not come up with it themselves (e.i. acting like "my idea is better and yours is crap because I didn't think of that" will get you nowhere).
Of course, you have to be able to also consider alot of it is sometimes trolling and show you have thicker skin than that. If not, people on the forums will eat you alive. Besides, even if you get **** for an idea, if you really want something to change, convincing CCP is the point, not the forum. If it makes sense and is a better idea than how it is now, CCP will pick up on it (eventually...maybe). Why would you care if one or two other players thinks it's ****? |

I haven't noticed any unusual amounts of hostility, compared to other loosely moderated gaming forums. You just need one of these.
Personally I dislike heavily moderated forums, I'd rather have an open discussion without trying to exclude people I don't like for whatever reason. My killboard - http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=Kessiaan |

First of all those who only complain aren't offering constructive criticism. They only complain and whine.
Constructive criticism is identifuing an issue and come up with alternatives which benefit all the same without getting the issue out of balance.
Biggest problem here is that often come up with idea's / solutions for issues that aren't present or without having throught them through. Also posting idea's and such often ends up in the wrong forum section and as such alone it already receives a lot of negative impact. We have players who love nothing more then to troll anything that hits the forums. You will have to learn to ignore them or counter them in such a manner they themselves look like even worse than their trolls.
Be prepared to have your suggestions and idea's to be scritinised in every possible manner, people pointing out flaws from their point of vieuw and have the ability to counter or to adjust your idea's.

"Constructive" criticism is a term I do not acknowledge. How can you do a negative act positively? We already had a term for it called feedback.
Now it is all about how it is worded. As it is not so much what you say but how you say it. If it is just "x is rubbish fix it" type of post then it is just whinging. However if it is along the lines of "x is broken and here is a possible solution that may fix it" that is feedback.
However no matter be prepared to have the ideas torn apart, if they can survuve that then they may just get looked at by CCP if they don't then they weren't worth looking at anyway.

My question is, how should such suggestions be presented to avoid the wrath of the forum goers You cannot, the forums have a subpopulation who delight in annoying and mocking others.
The only constructive solution is to just post whatever you want to post as constructively as possible, and then ignore every troll like that and report as many of them as you can bother. |

Here's how it works. A handful of lazy, no count do nothings with no skills have a "method" of play that amounts to picking up the easy meat then pretending they're great hunters. Any suggestion to tighten up the game to force them to learn how to play is met with a torrent of responses...boo hoo this and that, and name calling - best they can come up with is "carebear".
But, when you've read the forum long enough you see it's always the same handful of people saying the same things over and over. Kinda reminds me of when the Cuban Exiles tried to have a riot down here. To make it look like the city was burning they set a dumpster on fire. Unfortunately, with TV cameras in helicopters all they managed to do was make it look like a dumpster is burning!! Added to that, to make it look like everyone was up in arms and in the street, they tried to block a six-lane intersection with four people. It's the same formula.
If you pretend they aren't there...and all the functionally literate people here have learned to do this, and scroll THROUGH their bovine scatology, you'll see people seriously...or attempting to seriously, address serious issues. Just takes judicious use of the scrollbar. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |
