In the far outreaches of space far away from solarsystems there is still likely to be objects, they maybe thousands of light seconds from the sun, but they are still there.
Wouldn't it be cool if CCP included such places, possibly as rare bookmarks you can get as rewards off agents (maybe rareer than implants). These places probably wont be spawn points, but will be good safespots (now that they have been removed) and may have some items there.
Here are some ideas for such bookmarks:
Deserted hulk: The corporations files have shown that a research ship was lost, the corporation cares little now, but possibly you might be able to do something with the data from their last transmisson.(probably have a few bpos or tech2 items)
Large planet body: Astrologers have detected a large planet body in deepspace. Although probably uninhabitable it may be useful to a pilot like yourself. (like as a moon for a POS... this would make them very sought after as safe spots for structures)
Comet: A comet circles the sun of _______ and is currently far from the sun making it expensive to study. The corporation has judged it best that a private group might benefit more. (Comets may contain small amounts of rare ores, making it an interesting way of having such ores in high sec space. Naturally the comets will have a damage cloud and industrials might not like the 1000au trip.)
Rogue Drone base: Drones avoid human contact and a drone base has just been identified on the outskirts of the solar system. Although ignored by authorities a single pilot might find the location useful. (a spawn point, rogue drones are in Shiva)
This would be very cool and make businesses go crazy trying to grasp the one or two bookmarks that lead to each location. Many corporations will try to make sure they are the only ones with all the copies of the bookmarks to stop rivals gaining an adavantage. Another influence this might have is smaller corporations gaining footholds in alliance territory, being able to secure relative safety in the expanses of insecure space.
What do people think?

sounds cool. how about: ancent stranded ship - a ancent ship that has run out of battery charge used before capacitors were succesfull. a unique ship you can get with a few odd equiptment peices and everything else 'basic' -Ancent projectile cannon: a large turret, using 2-4 large shells per shot, a brute force weapon that only accepts lead charges -Ancent laser weapon: a non-turret weapon fitted to the ancent ship, hugely powerfull, but uses a lot of 'battery' b/c it has no capacitor, you need a ship to transfer power, or a lot of cap boosters
the ultimate: station out of orbit a station has been flug out of orbit. its a fully functional station, just disabled. you can use it for the next (amout of time 1week+) untill it leaves loose orbit and leaves the edge of the system (destroying anything in its hanger) - there could be ships like above and other types of modules you can claim from abandond hangers

actually i was trying to keep it simple... all the things i mentioned are easily installed into the game with the upcoming shiva... the ideas you have are, although good, harder to implement. My idea was not really about introducing new items, reather it was about introducing new places. New items can change the game drastically and results in numerous nerfs, new places do not require the amount of effort that a new item brings.

Edited by: Haratu on 11/07/2004 12:19:34 I have been thinking of some other bookmark locations, i might add them as i think of them:
This one is unlikely to be good as it may cause more problems with bugs that would make it harder for the devs.
Ancient Stargate: Tens of Millenia ago when the eve gate was still open there were stargates that were lost and have slowly drifted out of solar orbit or crashed into planets. This bookmark is a link to one such jumpgate that's destination is unknown.(A useful tool that can be used by some corporations to bypass pirate campers if they own the stargate. May require corporations to put monatary or mineral input to upkeep resulting in only large corporations owning them, naturally taking the usual route would be better than travelling 1000au extra... also, autopilot would not use it)

The main patch before the last one said you could no longer create safespots. but it may still be active since i cant find that quote anymore.
Irrelevant of that point, this idea would be a place to be able to escape any fututre elimination of such safespots by the use of scanners and other stuff.

i like this idea, but how would you prevent two people from getting a BM that is a duplicate of someone else, or someone selling the location.
Maybe a non copyable BM.

Hmmm, hadnt thought of people copying bookmarks... it is a good point. if you are going to buy a bookmark then you want to be sure it is not copied. I agree the bookmarks would have to be non-copyable thereby making their rarity a totally ccp controlled place. Funnily enough this would mean that corps who wish their members to use the gate will have to gang warp their friends there and then they would have to create their own bookmarks. A corporation would have to be very carefula bout who they bring to their spot.

*reference to another unrelated thread where I thought you were wrong and thus you are wrong now*

Seriously champ, nice id. I am 100% behind it.

Here is a idea, Linked BM.
Ie You can not make a copy, but a link that you can pass around. Aat any time the owner of the original can r-click on the BMO and select break links, at this point all other links to the BMO are broken.
So the owner of the original could clear and make new links every once in a while. This would let you sell the BMO and the new oner can break all links to it. Also make the destination non bookmarkable. 'It's orbital paramiters are out side the capabilitys of standard navigation system' there for you can only use the BMO or BML to get there.
This would provide a fairly robust system that would let players use these new locations effectivly.
Also I would think that the BMO should be doled out like a lottery, each BMO location is only handed out once. And maybe create 5 new one every month to keep the system moving.
I don't think this is something we could expect for Shiva, but maybe when LV 4 agents release it would be something they would consider

I was thinking this could be cool also.
Say a LV4 agent gives out a BMO to a abandoned Jump gate. Going there would take you to a hidden system with belts, and als sorts.
There would be 5 abandoned jump gates in various systems that you could get BMO to. that way you would not be the only one to be in that system, No nice safe hidy holes.

Edited by: Rask on 13/07/2004 14:02:30 Cool idea, am all for it.
Another spot could be a deep space asteroid feald. Have a background image of nothing but stars and various colored nebulas in the background, Very little ambient light.
Almost a case of telling where the rocks are by what stars are blocked out.

Had another idea, What if the reward from the agent was a deep space BM that leads to a ship that the player can go out and get and fly home. Ie a location of a derilic ship. it could be of any kind and the player may not be able to pilot it hom, they could then sell the BM of the location to some one that wants. it.
I think the ship should be badly damaged and require a fair bit of repair to use again.
It would add something more intresting to the rewards from agents. sort of a suprise package where you don't know what you are going to get.
Could be a shuttle or could be a BS.
It might be a cool way to introduce titans to the game, have one found as a derilict and the first persone to complete the mission gets the BM to it and the missions is disabled for a week. intresting idea.
