Quote: a good friend of mine approached me to say that another acquaitence of mine was in the market for a Nyx
I dare say you've lost this "acquaitence" as a potential customer in the future. And possibly you've lost your "friend" too.. anyone can burn bridges to cheat someone.. but usually you can cheat someone only once.. because you've sacrificed what reputation you had with them for a one time gain.. when that rep is gone it's gone. If you had said this was someone who wasn't an acquaitence that would have been a different story. Then I would have said, "wow a scam".. but this is just a cheat of someone you knew.. not impressive.

Originally by: nekolove As new player, I can say this is the kind of thing that mostly puts people off from EvE, while making for headers and jokes over the internet, to no avail of common sense. You see, in most modern MMO you can report scams and recover your stuff whereas in EvE players not only are encouraged to scam but congratulate themselves writing a post in the official forums. Though pitiful, probably a whole stadium is applauding in the scamer's head. Meanwhile, I can only offer my whole moral support to the victim, whose strength makes a role model to follow.
P.D.: Could I get some moral support too, materialized into isk?
Seeing as Eve's community keeps growing over time unlike most modern MMOs, I guess there's no need say anything else as a counter-argument to yours... but I will anyway :P
The fact that there's no invisible police watching over your every transaction to make sure you're not scammed - adds to the risk vs reward gameplay of Eve. You take a risk socializing with strangers, thus the sense of reward is that much greater if your business with them works out well for you.
This risk aspect is present everywhere in Eve and is what makes the politics, meta-game and player fame and notoriety prosper. We'd be a weaker game and community without it. |
