Edited by: Claymaker on 21/11/2008 12:15:50 After taking part in the fleet tests yesterday, and in the past, there is always lots discussion about brackets settings and which where enabled and what FPS etc etc.
It would be nice that a default option could be added that auto scaled the number of brackets visible based on FPS / Ship Count in Grid. It could scale down the current enabled brackets by priority. Like remove Fleet members first followed by all ships etc. This auto calc could be updated every few seconds so as not to cause a flicker if its border line etc.
It would be nice as you wouldn't have to change your setting based upon the circumstances your about to enter. You leave a station in system - all your desiered brackets available as there isn't any need to limit it because of low ship count and high FPS. You warp to a battle taking place, and as you warp in the FPS drops as the ship copunt is high, and the auto bracket system could then start dropping items out the list to incease the frame rate. As people get killed off, it could end up being switched back on as the FPS increases.
This would also be good from an education perspective. By not needing to explain to players about the brackets settings, it would make a more enjoyable experince for players, that may be put of by the massive lag experinced by the first fleet experince. Before they even figured out the brackets problems.
Anyone else have any thoughts ?

I think EVE could benefit a lot from some dynamic quality settings. Your idea sounds pretty good and i hope someone from CCP sees it.

Or, streamline the bracket code so it doesn't get in the way of gameplay.

bracket settings based on relative location would be nice.
something like: if on a grid with a station show x brackets if on a grid with a gate show x brackets if on a grid with a belt show x brackets if on a grid with a pos show x brackets if on a grid with a x # of players show x brackets

I believe somebody suggested something like this a while back, with some kind of lag detection triggering removal of textures/effects/models and so on until fleet fights (in the worst case scenario) were basically only generating brackets.
Or wireframes. But I don't think EVE graphics work like that? In any case, dynamic graphics quality changes could become a real possibility once the March patch rolls around, since [I gather] a major part of that one is replacing both clients with an engine that scales graphics quality on a fine scale based on a given player's graphics card. (this is what I deciphered from the techno-babble in the fanfest talk with the nvidia guy. I'm probably missing something, but I'm not much of a technophile, so yeah.)
So yeah. General support from me for fleet battle lag reduction through graphics modification, whatever the specifics. ______________________________________
