Edited by: Tobias Sjodin on 23/11/2008 18:29:12 So, thus far we have rails, missiles, lasers, and projectile turrets. Four types of weaponry, and four races (yeah yeah, drones and smartbombs - stfu).
So I think there should be more types of weapons out there. That is, weapons that fire stuff at other stuff. Something like plasma guns, sonic weaponry, and perhaps projected radiation. This of course introduces at least two types of damage types (radiation and sonic damage (which I guess could just be interpreted as kinetic damage - as sonic impacts are kinetic)).
There's been so much focus on adding more ships with expansions, why not more types of weapons? |

agreed, also, we need to loosen up on the bonuses ships get, I mean, there are currently only like 3 ships in the entire game that can fit weapons belonging to other races without looking stupid. I think it would go a long way toward making pvp more varied if: 1. many, many new weapons were added 2. bonuses were generalized so fitting autocannons on your Abaddon won't make you look like a ******. |

I think this is a terrible idea. There is enough variety in strategy since nano went out the window.

Anything that "impacts" is kinetic dmg.
Even explosive dmg is just kinetic and thermal dmg and maybe em if its a nuclear explosion.

Thank you so much.
That, and the fact that our ships are shielded against ambient "cosmic radiation," which would essentially make the weapons very weak. Not to mention that radiation doesn't kill instantly, it causes long-term damage and is essentially a form of poisoning.
Damage-over-time weapons does seem cool though. I'll sit back and watch this thread for a while...

Have to point out that rails are only half a category, and are focused on the same race that uses missiles. The correct term is Hybrids. (Speaking of hybrids, blasters are plasma guns)
Still, i agree. And not just another category of turrets (well, yes, but you get it...). We need something completely new.
Shield drainers? Gravity guns? Remote module offliners?(!overpowered!)
I like this thread.

more more weapon totally agree
but to a limit!! Sonic weapons can't exist(I THINK NOT SURE) in space. Due to fact that no sound can travel in space no such weapon can exist! Sound causes damage when the frequency of its vabration equals to the frequency of the item that bumbs into!
i sugget flak cannon though

Give us magnetic tethers(essentially a tractor beam for ships).
Suicide drones sound fun, maybe 1m3 in volume or less so you can pack a nice bunch of them into your ship and a form of terror drone(from red alert) would basically go through shields and start ripping apart armor and then hull,to compensate there would be a XX% chance the drones are destroyed if any other damage is done to the ships hull or armor.
The use of these ''terror'' drones would be do keep damaging a ship(quite slow of course X% of base armor hp and then X% of base hull hp per second) if it got away. After that a ship can go park itself in a The 'Fendahlian Collective' strikes again |

high pressure liquid napalm projector (flamethrower)
harpoons, man them
offensive mining lazers, that's my armour now
giant blades of death and doom, fit a few webs ram them then grind them up. also drones that dig into enemy ships and do the same =)
boarding parties, not to take over the enemy ship but rather to serve as a DOT (damage over time) weapon in eve, something we are lacking atm.

Why? Balance would be a lot harder to maintain, they would need to redesign existing content, create new modules that needs to be added everywhere (rats, missions, blueprints, material costs). What would be the benefit, considering the huge amount of work that would be necessary?

THe benefit would be new guns. More shineys. More im cooler than you cause I have a cosmic ballon cannon.
Oh and who ever wants to fit their Amarr ships with autocannon, you have the ability to do that already, but why should it work better than it does already. |

The only weapon I'd really love to see would be a Fusion Cannon. It'd basically be a fusion bomb detonated in a magnetic chamber and the blast gets funneled out the muzzle at the target. Could be the short range weapon for Jovians, heh. All kinds of damage types, mostly thermal and explosive.

all i can say is minmatar got screwed when CCP said that nuke ammo only does a small portion of the damage typs it does in real life.
a nuke is the only wepon knows to man that creates an EM pulse of any magnitude
a nuke hitting a ship would cause kinetic damage
a nuke exploding would cause thermal damage and explosion damage..
so please CCP FIX MINMATAR

WTF Are you smoking.
Physics 101:
SOUND (as in sonic weapons) needs a medium to pas through (a gas, solid, or liquid usually). SPACE IS A ****ING VACUUM!
Plasma, WTF - that's the equivalent of firing hot gas at someone, and for the record, blasters already do this. It would have an effective rang of about this far: |------------| actual size. That, and plasma radiates its heat away very rapidly when put in an environment with a temperature of about 4K.

sound, space does not have it.
someone mentioned damage over time weapons. i would totally be down for this.
ive been thinking for a while, missles could do a lot more thn they currently do. we have lockbreaker bombs and void bombs, so clearly we can pack stuff other then explosives in a missle casing.
what about webber missiles, which create a 5 second webbing field around the enemy?
particle burst torps, which do damage to modules?
energy disruption rockets, which take 5 cap off per hit? imagine that khanid AS now! - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

T2 ammunition would be perfect for such things, but they haven't decided on it yet. Stuff like lasers with a built-in nos effect or projectile ammo that destroys cap or other EW effects. -- stuff -- |
