I have a Prospecter character with Refining V and Refinery Effciency II. Whenever I refine anything I get a yield of 94.55%. The trouble is, I also have a bunch of specialist ore refining skills from when I started my character: Veldspar Processing IV, Scordite Processing III, Plage II, that supposedly give bonuses to yield for those ore types. But whatever ore type I'm refining, or even if I'm reprocessing modules, I always get 94.55% at Empire NPC stations with 50% base yield.
I used an ore calculator and found out that I'm getting the correct yield base on my Refining/Refinery Efficiency skill but no effect from for my specialist skills. Do I need to do something else to make those skills work?

Edited by: Estel Arador on 25/11/2008 10:20:42 The percentage listed in the refining/reprocessing window does not take into account specialist skills, however the skills are taken into account when you actually do the refining. You'll notice that the "you get" quote listed before you refine for instance Veldspar will be higher than 94% of the maximum yield and that the waste will be lower than 6%.

Thanks! Wow, that's pointlessly counter-intuitive.

For perfect refine you need Refining V, Refinery Effeciency V, and the ore skill at I I believe. You'll eventually end up getting all those skills anyway since they're required for the crystals you load into T2 strips on your Hulk.
Also, check your standings with the corp. The station takes a base of 5% as tax if you have no standings. Do missions to raise your standings up until it drops to 0. ---

Well... it can't really work any other way, since it's possible for you to refine multiple ores at the same time, at which point the global yield figure couldn't possibly be right for all of them. Thus showing the base (non-specialist) return is the most sensible thing to do - and I think there's a note somewhere that explains this (possibly right next to the figure itself).
Anyway, the main thing is you've overcome another little rock on EVE's learning curve.

To add to what Estel wrote, the OP needs to look in the "waste" column to see that her specialist refining skillz actually are working.
