Yeah, you could have a Terran expedition team based in Genesis that take it upon themselves to rally the collapsed cluster, using stargates to visit their cousin-colonies. The new order would be known as the Genesis Stars, and the lead expedition team would go by "Genesis Stars Team 1", shortened to GS-1. -----

Firefly.
If Joss Whedon were to write the EVE script, you can be sure I wouldn't watch it.
There's a reason Firefly only lasted for 3/4 of a season. Beyond the core 20 people that slobbered all over themselves when it came on, it was largely deemed as some of the worst Sci-Fi on TV.
Now if the Battlestar Galactica writers were to try to tell the EVE story, then it would be a different story. A good one.
GEE that's funny. Then why is Firefly the highest rated TV show of ALL time on imdb. ----------------------------------------------- "I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversation." |

First of all, get a clue; the cancellation of Firefly had more to do with a network management change than ratings (in fact the ratings were fine for a show the network had accidentally aired out of order). Not only that but the outpouring of support for it when it did get canceled allowed Whedon to create a movie, which he himself stated was never considered a possibility due to the size of the audience (at least the audience they thought they had) while the show was airing.....
That said, I wouldn't want Joss or the writers from BSG to write an EVE script; if Joss did it, it wouldn't have the dark, apathetic, grittiness that it should and if the BSG team did it (as dark as Firefly was, it always had a bit of the cutesyness that Buffy and Angel did), Tibus Heth would turn out to be a clone of President Foiritan in disguise....
If I had to choose an existing sci-fi tv show's writing staff to do it, I would probably have to say SG-1, while there were definitely cheesy moments, the creators have always said that that sort of thing was impossible to avoid due to production cost limits (and their reasons and the trade-offs as explained by them were always very, well, reasonable). That and the TV movies are all really good.
All that aside, the proof is in the pudding; Abraxas should be the one writing any potential script, alongside TonyG --

People who honestly think Firefly was good sci-fi prove why reality shows dominate the airwaves... Americans have ****ty taste.

Wierd, I think both of those series were absolutely fantastic... the main reason Firefly failed so bad is that it was marketed as 'by the maker of Buffy and Angel' when to be fair it was nothing like those progs... so everyone was disappointed.
Nearly every sci-fi fan I know loved firefly... and BS-G ... but hey we're all entitled to our opinions Dae.

Because Firefly geeks are the kind of people who give a toss about spamming buttons on IMDB to rate up their favourite shows, whereas everyone else just sits back and enjoys their entertainment?
Besides, not like those guys have anything better to do apart from push internetz buttonz and watch the new ser-- oh wait . . .

i would be very much in favor of EVE Online: The Musical - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

We can center it around the T20 drama and cap it off with a rousing rendition of "Eve Online is for BoB"
In all seriousness, you cannot encompas the entirety of EVE in a 1.5-2 hour movie. Hell, a 10-12 hour mini-series wouldn't do it justice either. You need to pick an aspect of the universe, and tell that story, like the chronicals do. What I like about them is not that they're an over-arching story arch, but a tale or two- a glimpse into the universe for a split second. There are no heros, just people. Something like Band of Brothers (the HBO miniserries) would be an OK thing to imitate. Focus on one group, or one thing, and show their story for a breif period of time.

It says a lot that someone who didn't like Firefly thought BSG had a good story. Or, you know, had one at all.
