Since the recent patch my girlfriend has been having huge issues watching hulu or any other streaming service while I am running eve online, We never had this issue until the recent patch, now every single time I play eve online her shows are interrupted and the internet connection goes to ****.
What happened has anyone else noticed this recently?
CCP please have a look at the client and try to undo whatever you did that slows down the connection. |

Couldn't possibly be your ISP... no no no, that would mean that you hold some of the responsibility as you chose the ISP and that is unacceptable. |

It could be coincidence but if logging out of EVE cures it, that seems less likely. Kill the Launcher in Settings, see if that helps. |

CCP please have a look at the client and try to undo whatever you did that slows down the connection. Usually I'd troll this kind of post, but I've noticed it on mine too. I had assumed it was just my ****** internet playing up, maybe there's something to it if others have noticed a change too.
When I get home I'll run some line tests with/without Eve running and try and see if we're just imagining it.

I think there have been some general internet hiccups this weekend. I'm on COMCAST and I have been seeing connection issues with and without EVE running. I haven't bothered to chase down where the actual bottleneck might be, but I wouldn't point my finger at Eve at this time (running three clients).

I use Comcast, but regardless of that, my internet has been doing well. It usually needs to be reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the modem once a day or so, depending on traffic, but that is regardless of whether or not Eve Online is running.
Even if my Eve client is running, my brother has no problem watching Netflix on the PS3, my girlfriend has no problem browsing the internet on my WiFi-connect smartphone, and the iPad has no problem connecting all at once. The only thing that seems to cause problems with the internet is when someone logs into Facebook (go figure).
Of course, this might be because either my connection is good or the client launcher is setup to disable itself once Eve Online is launched. Welcome to Eve Online. Don't expect people to be nice to you. |

Ok it's not eve, I disabled the eve client unplugged my wireless and plugged my ethernet directly.
I ran a speed test and I'm under 1 mb /s
powering off the modem made no difference. Resetting my modem helped I'm at around 4 mb /s now....
However I think it still may be an issue with my old modem.... it's just old. |

I was playing eve and netflix was running fine. Comcast here in the us. I do have the qos set up in my router so that does help too..
Do you have any specifics on your connection, upload/download etc? have you done a speed test to see if your speeds were too low to handle both at once?

1mb is real slow, even 4mb is a bit low for eve, hd streaming video and potentially voice as well. Netflix has a way to adjust the streaming quality on the site, you may want to look in to that on any other services you use.
Yes I ran a few tests and called Time Warner Cable as well, turn out my modem is dropping packets like crazy..... must be an old modem issue it's about 5 years old |

They are sending a technician on tuesday to possibly replace the modem for free but I will definitely look into the one you suggested thanks!

And now for a serious answer....
Unless CCP has given the client a built in torrent server/client for patch distribution, there's no way it's pulling enough data or using enough connections to directly affect your connection.
On the other hand if you're using some form of internet connection sharing and the computer you're playing Eve on is also acting a the gateway for all other devices in your home then perhaps there's a connection between performance of your computer when playing Eve and your GF's internet connection, i.e. You're taxing your computer playing Eve, therefore Windows is sacrificing internet performance to devote more resources to your gaming experience.
If you have a router acting as the gateway, then IDK, could be any number of things. We want breast augmentations and sluttier clothing in the NeX! |
