I like Star Trek with TNG and Voyager being my favourite series and that latest one (Which is a goddamn atrocity) and Deep Space Nine (Soap in space) being my most hated.
As for star wars.. I can't stand it.
love/hate me as you wish.

I used to like Star trek but then I got fed up with the writers using the same catchphrase
Next generation "always the space time cont on the blink" Voyager "every weeks some kind of relay went down" DS9 was just to emotional
I also liked babylon 5
Star wars is pretty good

Oh, Enterprise was all right IMHO. Ok, it was pretty bad early on but picked up speed around season 3 and was thoroughly enjoyable towards the end. Shame they cancelled it.

New Star Wars movies are Epic Fail!
I like the memories of watching Star Trek as kid, but I do not go out of my way to watch them now. I own a few of the movies and that is about it.
As for what made my love Sci-Fi. I am not really sure.

Edited by: Khemul Zula on 28/11/2008 19:32:41 Personally it always surprised me that Star Trek survived through the 60/70's. A perfect society in the future that just happens to be a communist militaristic society with no mention of elections.
I liked it up until DS9. After that they threw continuity out the window and the show became confusing as hell to keep track of. Same for Star Wars tbh. Original three good. Newer three might have been good if they didn't through out any concept of making the series fit together.

Hopefully the upcoming Star Wars series will make justice to the franchise.

Star Trek is "meh" towards "yay", depending on what series you're talking about. I got hooked up on Sci-Fi at around 9 or 10 years of age (can't recall for sure the year) when I first read “Les seigneurs de la guerre” by GTrard Klein... and kept on being a sci-fi nut for the next 2+ decades (and frankly, I doubt I'd ever let go of it).
So... Star Trek, you say ? I think I first saw any of it barely 15 years ago, and it was ST:TNG, not ST:TOS (seen a couple of episodes on Sky One, when the local cable network was still broadcasting it - then finally seen most episodes of TOS a couple of years later on Sat1, a German station). I can safely say I watched Star Trek *because* it was Sci-Fi, not the other way around... I was dead-set on SF a long time before I even heard of it.
I read thousands (actually, probably closer to or even over ten thousand) Sci-Fi stories/novels/books during my lifetime, and if I have to pick a "top hundred" movie list of all times, most of them would probably be Sci-Fi too. Don't exactly hate fantasy, but I find it too "soft" - I prefer "hard" sci-fi and slightly scowl at "soft" sci-fi... heck, even EVE is a bit too much on the "soft" side of Sci-fi, if I think about it... but there's not much of an alternative anywhere out there.
