Apologies if this has been posted before but I checked the frequently suggested ideas and the first two forum pages and didn't see it.
I was talking to a fellow manufacturer/miner corp mate just now and we're both stuck doing the same thing. Grinding missions in order to get perfect refining and market tax fees. We've both chosen the way of the trader because we dislike running missions so why are we forced to? Yes there are mining missions but kill missions seem to give the best standings over time. And yes there is the Connections skill but that raises you up to 2.00 standings whereas a refiner needs 6.66 to be perfect. We came up with these ideas:
0.01 standing gain with that corporation per 1 million isk broker fee paid. - This would be a 100 million sale for a very small standing amount, not particularly fast but you're dealing with this same broker every day and giving him business, why shouldn't he grow to like you? - This would also have to be counted as if the tax without the Broker Relations skill was paid since otherwise a superior trader would find it harder to gain standing.
0.01 standing gain per 1 million m3 ore refined - I'm not as good as miner so this does seem excessive to me. I'd say 100k m3 which seems to be around a half hour work for my corpmate. - This gives a loyal refiner the ability to grow steadily better at refining with a corp. They're charging a tax but he's been refining so much with them for so long that they're happy to charge a smaller tax to keep him with them. - Over the course of improving the standing this way the refiner still loses lots of minerals as tax so some people could still choose to mission run to avoid this loss if they wish.
Similar methods for manufacturing and research based on the isk paid as tax there. I am unsure on the quantities involved however.
All of these could in theory be used by other mission runners to gain standing quickly if they had the isk. I'm not sure on the prices but I think this method would be far more expensive than the services of those who sell corp standings and so not interfere with their business niche.
Finally if this is a bad idea then alternatively the addition of another Social skill is another one. I have often heard Social is the most under used skill group. These skills would either enable this method of standing gain so that it is unavailable to the general population to stop the general rate of standing increase rising or preferably be crossover skills with other skill categories reducing the standing required for "perfect" refining etc. by 7% a level.
E.g. Broker Negotiation - Requires Trade Connections III, Broker Relations V - At level V would require 3.16 standing to gain perfect refining. This is Connections V as well as mission running but still substantially less for people who don't enjoy it and may not even be able to fly a ship capable of doing the higher level missions.
Just an idea, don't think it would impact the game too much, just an alternative for those of us who don't like to fly around fighting for agents and instead prefer to assist those who do and bring business to stations. Surely we're as valuable to the corporations as those mercenaries.

Having read this post and spoke to you about it in game i think this idea has good merits.
I agree with you about miners and manufacturers gaining standings in a way that doesnt involve running missions. We choose to be miners and industrialists because that is the aspect of the game we enjoy. However to gain standings to get perfect refining we also have to train combat skills to be able to fly a ship big enough, and with enough support skills to be able to survive the higher level missions, to raise our standings so we can refine better.
An alternative way of achieving these standings gain is a good idea.
Thanks for raising this idea Kaiok.

i will support this, and might i ask for a system that also gives standings to factions, of a similar vein? - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

Edited by: Tsual on 29/11/2008 10:37:13 With mining or for miners currently a viable road is to run missions for lvl 4 mining agents and decline the 5% combat. ******************** Moral is only usefull so far as society demands it from one to accept its presence.

There's an existing alternate way you missed:
Find a missionrunner, preferable a level 4 mission runner, and offer him x amount per hour to gang up with him. He runs the missions, you get standings and are, relatively, free to do your normal business.
