I think the reason most people don't pay ransoms is because there's so many people out there that don't honor them - even if their T2 was 10x as expensive they wouldn't pay anyway because to them it's a better-than-even chance they'll just get exploded anyway. You can't expect your marks to keep track who's an honorable thief and who's not - it's not a distinction most people recognize.
I was just about to say this. If 'pirates' want to have their ransoms paid, they need to come down on their fellows who will accept a ransom and then pop the victim anyway. It's all about the PR, if common belief is that you get popped anyway (and it is) then why would anyobne trust you to let them go?
We do what we can feel free to update us anytime you find a pirate corp not honoring ransoms in low sec, Im sure Verone will be happy to add them to the KOS list

Edited by: Snaps on 01/12/2008 07:13:35 i dont know how you can say t2 is to cheap i just spent all day running around fitting two bs so i could get involved in the faction wars. i didnt have enough standing to join so i needed to get me some npc's. so i go out in a no gate 00 system away from any kill traffic just to have a gang come all that way to gank me. i got one npc before 10 ships showed up i got to the gate ran into a warp bubble on the other side. god i hate them ***** things. what a fin game killer, anyway they made at latest 60mil of me. that ant enough for a 30 second kill. my lose 100mil easy. i didnt eve get a chance to have any fun today not a drop. i just paid alot of isk out too other players and got nothing back for it. i am getting real sick of them worp bubbles, i cant do anything anymore but log if i wont to save my ship but i dont play that way but if i run for a gate i am dead.
all that just to get into a faction war. i cant eve hunt in that space its so filled with worp bubbles these days and ganker squids. i will never be able to live long enough to get the types of ships i need to join that war. i am getting board with always being some gangs fun and not getting any myself. worp bubbles got to go they any right.

Is the value of the loot you can expect to get from a PvP victory too low compared to the amount of ISK you can expect to lose by risking your T2 hull?

I understand his view point. You could pvp for hours, and get a heap of kills, and sell the loot. But you probably wont make enough to replace your ship if you lose it (if you fly t2).
In this regard, I think that the rewards from pvp drops should be higher, like a bpc or something aswell. I think that its unfair to still make it a net loss if you do well in pvp, its punishes the ppl that risk everything for fun. Punishing players to have fun never seems a good idea imo.

T2 is fine.
Faction loot is what makes pvp profitable (so many people use Faction mods nowdays, just for a TS Heavy Nuet this week)
I just use any T2 **** i find to fit my ships.

I think it'd be nice if t2 ships cost less and t2 gear were more expensive. Cost of fitting a t2 ship would be pretty much the same (and insurance payout is crappy anyway), but proportionately more of the ship's value would be in the form of something that can be dropped. __________________________________

I think I agree with the OP... but I also don't think EVE is meant to be that kind of game.
Internets spaceships is serious business.
More expensive T2 would mean even less people PVPing I'm sure.
I honestly cannot see people paying up ransoms much before a ransom escrow system is introduced and even then I'd be dubious. People just don't like you ... and especially not right after you've been shooting at them. Duh.

The solution is not to make t2 items more expensive but to make t2 hulls cheaper or just make t2 ships insurable for their real value and then you can easily make money from just the dropped items if you win more than you lose.

The more expensive a module is, the fewer people will fit it - it's that simple. IWIN buttons like pre-QR nano fits may skew the ratio a bit, but overall, it stands. Price T2 out of most people's "I'm fairly comfortable about losing that" price range, and they'll just fit T1 and you'll come back complaining about T1 being too cheap. Eve already has penalties for dying far harsher than any other MMOG on the market.

If you want more isk, try ransoming, or fitting a Salvager In a Spare hi Slot.
Having someone pay for your ships to pvp in is also good to maximise profit to loss ratio

Tbh, I see the problem in that most of ship's isk value is non-droppable by default(i.e. hull and rigs). And yes, I'd say that overally the (dropped value / destroyed value) is kinda meh atm, ransoming a HAC can yield up to 10x more than drop+salvage could could(and the least is like 3x if you get lucky with salvage, assuming target is flying with t2 mods)

No.
Rigs are to expensive though.
I wish PvP was cheap so I could rat less and do more things with a 10% chance of survival.

Give T2 insurance rates at 70% of the payout of T1, increase t2 ship prices slightly

Good tactic. Point to how bad it USED to be in an effort to get the complainers to lighten up. Unfortunately, some people live their lives in a constant state of complaining. Trying to convince them to stop complaining, just adds fuel to the fire. "I want PVP rewards because I don't like having to get my money the same way as everyone else." "My ***** hurts!"
My solution: "Rub some sand in it."

Yeah, taking the hard-line might make you think you sound l337, but you just sound like an old sour non-conformist with your "Its better to keep it expensive!" attitude.
Id personally love a way to make pvp more profitable than now, as pve is just horrible. Itll be the one thing that cld drive me away from this game, and I dont think its cool to keep it that way just for "traditions sake".

Eliminate insurance.
Plain and simple. It levels the loss between a T2 ship and a T1 ship.
Ransoms suddenly become far more meaningful - instead of a convenience factor.
Yes lag happens - accidents happen - however that's part of the play style of this game - ie its supposed to be a harsh world.
