like I want ton control NPCS! maybe just in my own custom deadspace I set up, and then I could have my bar tender in ambulation have a secret quest one day or every once in a while where if you do the right thing you get to go mothermoon's mixing factory, who owe mothermoon money, out in deep space where you find a mobile please hub. you have to blow up the people protecting it and hold the place for ransom. ONce you have the ransom and the ransom letter you turn in the isk and the papers and you get some awesome item I set up.
and of crouse anything killed respawns because like pirates they have magic non-ended supply of ships :P and ignore time after downtime.
that would be sweeett.
maybe even have a key at the deadspace gate so you can't enter unless you have the one of a kind key.
oh the possibilities!

Hehe, that can be 'seen' in my corp as well.
One of the co-directors is Mymh Heretache, a minmatar. We kind of 'roleplay' (no, we don't, serious roleplayers will be all flashy and red and go steaming when reading this) that Misanth is the master and he's the slave. You can see that in the corp titles as well. He's the "Puppet" and Misanth is the "Puppetmaster", while our CEO has "no strings attached".
But meh, when we started EVE, the intention me and my RL bro + his pal had, was to actually roleplay pirates and corp thieves.
Edit; uninteresting stories aside, it didn't take us many days before we realised there isn't much ingame events and, back to topic, EVE isn't very RP friendly. Still, what people easily can do without going in-character, is to actually do what we did in our corp, have a characteristic for your - character.
So, Mymh, if you read this (I know you do), fetch me some more coffee please. I'm too lazy to get off this chair.

yeah but if we had some real tools we could set up points where you have to go to a check point. Like flying through an area that has a web tower, or through a field thaty deals damage over time, hell even just being able to place beacons that record to the spot what your current time is. Then racers could leave at different times and no rules could be broken.
maybe have a part where you have to get into the middle of a field of asteriods and back out again, being careful not to get stuck bumping off of one of them.
Maybe have fitting stations where you need to go and mine out a rock to get to the beacon, and if your behind on your time you might mine it for the palyer behind you because it only respawn each time a player exits the starting line which could be every 5 mins.

Or how about a "tutorial" or "challenge" missions, 1/10, 2/10 etc, for corp recruits.
"Complete this mission thingy and you can get in" or some such.
Missions to player corporations that get you standing with those corporations.
The possibilities would be endless, and would add to the "player controlled universe" EVE toots from every hole when it fits the fans

Mission creation tool really.
In simple terms.
You could randomize locations etc, but let the player create difficulty level, reward etc.
These player created missions, when completed, could reward the "player agent" some special LP or some such.
BAsically, make players agents.
The tool to create missions could be simple;
Courier - Start and end, computer generated goods, etc. Hunt - Computer generated "deadspace" etc, difficulty level defines spawns and enemies etc.
Descriptions and such could be modified with "advanced".
If an agent profession would become viable, and the tools were good enough, soon there would be no "real" need for NPC agents.

Come to think of it, i can create a quick example of a "mision editor" back home, but i'm betting that with a few modifications, the CCP used mission editor could be used as a player tool.

You could even let players create missions and let the rewards and such be computer generated, but adjustable by players. Then the "agent" would get rewards for acting as an agent to some corporation.
Another, straight from WoW though, tool is the calendar tool that shows blizzard created events and where you can set up public, private etc events;
Example: Fishing event! Public. Meet at xxx for fishing fun.
^^ This;
Except ADD: Rewards should come from the person making the mission i.e. ISK, Modules, Ships, LP ..etc.. otherwise anyone will get an ALT and farm their own player made missions.

True enough. Some kinks and edge-filing should be done ofcourse, but i wouldn't want to be rude and do ALL the work for CCP devs
Ratio of: Own ISK for reward -> gain from "agent lp" -> isk value of "agent lp" should be in place to balance it all.
Also some missions could just reward "standing" with the player and/or their corp, basically a favor for favor.

How would you tie this into the backstories? For example, most mission npcs carry bounties, but at a guess, we couldn't allow players to create a mission that rewarded bounties from the system, because it would just be farmed. How would you approach that and allow creativity? All the money being used as bounties would have to be provided by the author or 'agent'. Would that not prove to be a huge downside?

Bounties could be created by the mission creator too.
Example of a mission from a pure finance view:
Mission reward: 1 million isk. Mission bounties: 1 million isk. Mission item reward: 1 mission isk(implant for example)
The mission reward is completion bonus. Mission bounties(via a slider, numeral or other means) would be divided into the rat bounties. Say, 200k into frigates, 150k into cruisers and a big ol battleship.
That would create the dificulty almost automatically.
Mission item reward is ofcourse, up to the person.
Now, what are the gains as the losses can be huge to the player creating the mission:
Gains are in "agent LP"(ALP), which work, essentially, like normal LPs. These could be used to obtain special mods or other items. The amount of ALP the player agent would be directly measured from the reward/bounties and other costs of mission creation.
This would mean, that if one wanted to farm own missions, sure, one could, but it would be a tedious way to transfer ISK -> ALP and the time wouldn't be worth it.
On other hand, it would create new missions for players, new ways to make ISK, the ISK wouldn't come from "nowhere" and the player agent would still get a fair reward for the time spent creating the mission and the ISK put into the mission.
In short; calculate the cost of creating a mission into the ALP system.
Or even simpler: Give the player agent direct LP from the missions his subjects complete.
As far as backstory goes; i'm thinking agents give the bounty for rats anyway, so this would fit in nicely and being an agent would become a viable "another EVE profession".
Agent rewards could even escalate depending on the amount of people running missions for you.

We are all roleplayers in this game, it's just that some people want it to be written by someone else.

This could be extended to have an extended contract-system which allows some kind of pvp-"missions" as well, which could be fronted by some kind of pseudo mission agent in some office of that corp. So the corp has an agent, just like the NPC agents, sitting in some stations.
Imagine something like "Kill 20 ships of corp xxx to get this reward." or "Destroy 5 frigate class ships of alliance xxx in region yyy", hell maybe even something like "Destroy this pos" or "Disable station service xxx of station yyy" ... I dunno, this kind of stuff doesn't sound awfully complicated to me, but maybe it is.
This could be coupled with corps/alliance being able to reward people with some kind of loyalty points as well, or simply money/items/medals/whatever.
Would make things like merc work a lot more interesting and blur lines between npcs and players a bit.
Therefore, whoever wishes for peace, let him prepare for war. |
