Would it be better to mine with a procurer or with a mammoth, as i have the skills for either but cant decide which one to purchase.

Dude. STOP. Do not mine in a mammoth. its for moving minerals, not mining them. Also the Procurer sux. Get a Retriever at minimum of you are after a barge. A cruiser with mining bonus will be better than it. So if you want to mine, get a Retriever or a cruiser with mining bonuses (like the Osprey). Also read this link. Its the miners bible. Linkage

Cheers hormone, the only reason i was using the mammoth was because of the large hold, and didnt require extra skills from the ones i already had. Problem is with cruisers i find is that none have large cargo holds and it takes multiple trips to get what i would get out of the mammoth

The only reason you mine in a mammoth is you hold more ore for the haulin.
But it will take you ages to get that far.
Your better off minin in a mining barge and getting a buddy to haul your rock.
Make sure you use a Secure Can for transferring or get a really twitchy jet can user.

You can actually outmine the procurer in a Navitas, Bantam or Burst class frigate if you have good skills.

If your only concern is mining a large amount of ore, then by all means continue mining with your Mammoth. If you're at all concerned about mining yield, making money, building stuff, or otherwise doing anything useful with the ore without it being a complete waste of time, then at least get a Retriever as some have suggested, or some sort of mining cruiser as others have suggested.

I'm not sitting down here crunching numbers, but I'd imagine that mining in a Mammoth you'd be hard pressed to get much over 100 m3 per minute, as you can only mount one mining laser on it (one turret slot). It'll take you almost 3 hours to fill up the hold. One of the Minmatar cruisers (I forget the name) has the same bonus as the Osprey: 20% bonus to laser yield per skill level. If I dig out my Osprey right now, I get over 500 m3 per minute with three Miner IIs. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |
