Long, long ago in an expansion far away, a jovian ambassador was assinated by players. CCP made a half ass attempt at a game event out of it. I still have the complex fullerine (or something like that) and a bone shard that showed up in one of my station item bays like easter eggs. I am sure some of the really old players remember this. |

Everyone are retards when they talk about the Jove... look back a little, it wasn't long ago that the jove were actually flying macheriels, cynabals and dramiels... those were the old version of Jove ships...
If anything, adding new jove ships would be awesome because of the designs, and really... you guys are retards when you expect a single Jove ship to be so powerful, they are far from immortal. |

Actually those ships you mention were made by the Angel Cartel, who took over abandoned Jove space and rumoured to have discovered some Jove technology which possibly influenced those ship designs.
Jove ships are stupidly powerful though, both in the lore and in the game. |

I prefer Jove to be as they are now. A Mystery.
If EVE Online was to ever go offline permanently, the prelude would be the Jovians are doing it and that they did it in the end. (Why CCP no improve Shareholding?): https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=71032#post71032 |

Devs = Jovians.
It's an internal joke at CCP, created when EVE was being developed. Check the descriptions and early cannon of Jovians and it'll make sense. The original avatars of Devs on forums were Jovians.
The joke was taken too far and once they became a big company, they corrected it around 2007/trinity II. When the avatars were updated.
Long gone are the days Devs would get into a Jovian bs and "/tr me Jita", for fun.
They will never be 'ingame' again.

I think having overpowered ships in game could work and it would create interesting gameplay if done right
An idea i had a while ago would be to have one randomly spawning wormhole in New Eden that leads Jovian space and once a certain number (between 1-5) of people pass through it, it closes.
In these wormholes you could stumble upon an archaeological site that contains an abandoned Jovian ship that has some unique and overpowered functions. Only 4 (for example) of the ships could exist in New Eden at one time. When a pilot enters one of these ships, they gain access to a private chat channel where they can communicate with the pilots of the other 3 Jovian ships
On their own the ships would be comparable to a T3 but slightly better in almost every way but when these Jovian ships work together, they have the ability to link there weapons together producing massive damage, with the maximum damage output being equivalent to a doomsday when all 4 ships link their weapon systems.
The catch... you can't dock in a Jovian ship and when it's destroyed, it returns the archaeological site in the Jovian wormhole. |

The ships would never leave Jita and you're back to square 1...besides - you can't even get the skill books, it would break all cannon if you could, and I can't understand why a Jovian ship would be left toiling at an arch site, with skill books conveniently left in the glovebox.

I must be honest, main reason I really want Jove ships is not because I want overpowered ships... It's because I want their designs... they look really awesome!
What if Jove just released the ship designs, but they were balanced to be on par with the other races? I don't care for the argument "what role does it fill" as I think it's a ******** concept to go by, to be it would be on level of the "Golden Scorpion" just something that would look nice in the hangar :) and people will want to blow up when it undocks |

The Jove fill a useful role as a framework to hang future story expansions on. For example, look at incursions - that utilised the Sansha storyline to explain what was happening. Maybe in future CCP will want to bring in a feature that the Jovian backstory will be a part of, maybe seeing Jove ships doing something in our space for some reason (not necessarily as opponents even... maybe you'd have to help them in some way?) I don't think making them or their ships playable by us would benefit the game for a number of reasons that others have already mentioned, and I prefer them to retain some mystery. And don't forget that if Eve fills up with too many players, perhaps Jove space could become somewhere we could visit to make a little extra room. Anything is possible. My cooking is like my lovemaking - fast, greasy, and unsatisfying. |

QFT
As mentioned many times before, the Jovians are pretty damned powerful; powerful enough to stop almost everything the empires could ever throw at them. As a playable race however, they would simply "be"; all mysticism and interest in them would fade away, leaving them in the same boat as the other 4 empires. It would be an utter disaster imo
Now, for them popping into certain events, under DEV/CCP control, that is fine - but not for day to day gameplay
Opening up the EVE Gate and having the Terrans say "Hello" would also be disasterous - the only example of (supposed) Terran Tech was on Empress Jamyl's Abaddon which annhilated the Elder Fleets capital support in a single shot. Its so powerful, it made the Jovians create a small pile of brown in their pristine white undergarments. Imagine a fleet or a small patrol group with that sort of firepower?
Even if CCP would open up such an avenue of gratuitous pain and suffering, most players would probably be turned off the second or third time they were insta-popped loading the grid. |

Mystery is a good thing.
Jove are way better as an unknown alien force in EVE, not as an Aurum-unlockable super models as CCP would put them in the game. |

MOTHER ******* LAND GRAB BITCHES!!! Go all second colonial age on jove space like africa. You are assuming they would connect gates to Jove space. I think it would make more sense for no gates to connect Jove space but rather require you to find a way there through wormholes. You would also be able to jump once there, but no gates.

That would be a real waste of what could be a cool playable race.

CCP Gave up on backstory after the Apocrypha expansion. DUST 514 looks like it might bring in a nice chunk of lore.
But seriously, you know we don't have enough lore if our latest "big news" comes from a nearly 4 year old expansion.
Right now the Jove serve as a halfass excuse for random stuff that happens in EVE. |

Gogela wrote:Buzzmong wrote:The problem with the Jove in EVE terms is essentially the same problem Star Wars Galaxies had (pre NGE):
If you give people a way to access something which is designed to be better than everything else, as the number of them increases, they end up ruining the game for everyone else or becoming so common that they render everything else obsolete.
On the flipside, if said item is designed only to be equal to everything else and offer nothing more for extra difficulty in getting access to it, you have to ask, what's the point?
(*as a side note, I'd imagine as SW:TOR has flopped that Lucasarts might now realise this and make the next SW mmo explore the actually rather rich SW universe, rather than focus on Force Users). I think it could be balanced and knock out the bittervet cries for more content at the same time. What if to fly a Jove frigate you had to have all race frigates at 5 to train jove frig 1? Jove ships should have omni-stats, meaning like the sensors on the apotheosis at +10 to all sensor strengths. However, you could only give them a slight advantage, maybe say (just as an example) shields would have equal resists to all damages but only 35%, and there is an added penalty to boosting resists to all non-jove modules (including T2). In that way, yes you could have a f*** off jove frig fitted with all jove tec, but it would be a hero fit like that 80 billion isk mission runner BS that got ganked in empire the other week. Crazy expensive because jove mods (the ones that don't receive the penalty and only fittable on jove ships) are really rare. So Jove BS would require all race BS at 5 and only give the slightest advantage... it would still be fodder for any small low sec gang of pirates.
Whats the point jove are suppose to be all powerful, why dumb them down just so u can have a fancy ship that will do missions or be showed off in high sec.
If u dumb them down its a waste of time, what u want is more ships.
look at all the best spec ships, fed mega, tribal tempest, opus yaught they are hanger ornaments, pointess except for bragging.
What we need is more content to play with not shite that will add nothing and what we need least of all is more nerfs. Inappropriate signature removed. Spitfire

The fantasy game whose "lol lore" or rules change to fit the game: "A wizard did it." For our sci-fi game when mechanics change in a new unexpected way: "a Jove did it."
Jove on the whole was an alpha idea, much like warp disruptors being racially based like jamming. They have all the opportunity in the world still to adjust jove and sleepers and other unknowns whenever they feel like it. Which for all we know is when Dust eventually gets integrated in W-space. Do jove fit into what they want to add to eve though? Shouldn't the individual pirate groups that we are already failure with be expanded as much as Sansha has? An Angels Dread here, a Blood raiders Battlecruiser there, a Gurista Carrier around the bend. There are a lot less enigmatic groups to work with for new ships and new mods. |
