Back in beta and in the 6 months I played after launch convoys used to carry pretty good loot. I remember fondly hunting convoys outside stations and loot consisted of everything from Ships to Skillbooks. Insane amounts of ammo and trade goods.
I returned to the Eve community a couple months ago and since then I wanted to return to my occupation of a convoy hunter. I have scanned over 300 convoys since I returned and I must say the quality and quanity of loot has been lowered drastically. (yes I'm sure of the count I'm one of those anal people that does spreadsheet logs so I can keep track of the best places to hunt)
Currently I have not seen any skillbooks, blueprints, harvester or elite mining drones, or any other really good loot. Also I have noticed that none of the convoys carry Implants or Tech 2 components. I can understand the not carrying implants, but what about Tech 2 components?
I'm not asking for locations, corp names, or demanding you change anything. All I really want to know is if Harvesters and Elite drones still exist as loot? I know people still have them from long time ago, hell I still have about 50 Harvesters and 10 Elites myself.
1) Is there still a chance of getting some more Harvesters and/or Elites from a convoy drop?
2) Is there still a chance that convoys will carry any item the corp it belongs to sells?
3) Is there still a chance of getting Skillbooks from convoys?
Please check the loot tables for convoys before answering, just on the off chance they are incorrect and no one has noticed. Based on what I have been reading in the forums not as many people know how to hunt convoys or engage in this activity as they did back during the first 6 months of the game.
Thanks for your attention to this question. 2005.01.21 05:09:06combatYour Tachyon Beam Laser I perfectly strikes Blood Priest, wrecking for 533.1 damage. |

I too have noticed that the NPC convoys are not realy worth the ammo to blow them up.
A few tech 2 components would be nice. It might even help the interceptor market.

Pain. Looks great on other people. Its what there for. |

Harveys and elite drones don't drop anymore (or, if they do, VERY rarely).

Been hunting convoys 2 months ago and did try again a few weeks ago too. No real go so far..It kind of evens out moneywise, but looking at the risk you undertake and the standing you lose in the progress it is NOT an option to gain in the game at all.
In fact, its another great facette of this game nerfed to death. Shame really, as it leaves us only a few paths open instead of the limitless possibilities promised by game ads and reviews. ;/

They are probably going to keep it this way until the contraband and smuggling system is in. Yes post Shiva in likelihood.

Just be glad you haven't found anything worth taking yet. You would of most undoubtedly found out the hard way by now that the sentry guns have a targeting range of 150km these days.

the 150km range is not sucha big problem as the fact that ccp keeps changing them every day..
and to be truthfull its not worth it anymore to loose a faction to get some crappy tech 2 comps... quite frankly they could have done a better job by leaving the harveys ingame at least they would not be 2-4 mil as they are now.
as for me at least no more convoy hunting.. not for a long time

I h8 the whole 150km sentry range makes convoy hunting crap as they normally warp well before they reach this probaly not to bad if u use torps but being gallente and in a taranis well u see my point.
The 150km range yes it prevents ppl with torps and sensor boosters sitting out at 100km of a station shooting ppl but it does kill of any reason at all for a lot of ppl to attack convoys why risk a 7 mill ship to sentrys for 1 mill of loot?

Convoy loot may have more worth in Shiva:
Quote: The structures are however very expensive to operate, requiring consumables to stay online.
It seems logical to me that the consumable would often consist of currently-useless commodities like Water, Oxygen, Frozen Food, Electronic Parts, etc.
On a side note, I would like to thank Emperor Doriam for generously donating my supply of Oxygen. ^_^ - - - -
I have measured and described the stars, their great and countless multitude. What man has seen their revolutions and entrances? Not even the angels see their number, yet I have recorded all their names.
- The Book of the Secrets of Enoch, Jewish Pseudepigrapha
We won't talk about how many cruisers I lost this weekend, nor how many nice railguns, or T2 enhancers. We're going to skip right over that. We're going to talk about my new Raven. It is like flying a small city, and the city's only export is missiles.

Hehe yea lost 3 frigates figuring it out. Now that I have researched the issue I have found that you can hunt convoys without fear. It's all a matter of know which convoy and where to kill them at. 2005.01.21 05:09:06combatYour Tachyon Beam Laser I perfectly strikes Blood Priest, wrecking for 533.1 damage. |

Sentry will not fire at you as long as the convoy you are attacking doesn't belong to the station you are sitting near. Also convoys warp at 200K and are easily killed by a frigate with small hybrids. I usually use Anti-Matter for them in a Incurus with 3 - 125mm Scout I 2005.01.21 05:09:06combatYour Tachyon Beam Laser I perfectly strikes Blood Priest, wrecking for 533.1 damage. |

ok so i've asked this before and maybe its obvious... how do you know which station a convoy belongs to? You can easily tell if its inbound or outbound from a station but i fail so see how to identify "ownership." thanks

No wonder no one would tell me how to identify. Its that painfully obvious - enough so that i'm going to be mean and tell others that its right in four face. Though it does beg a question into my mind about sentry guns...
- If I attack a convoy belonging to the station it is near but I am outside the 150km sentry range do they still know I am the one who is killing and thus neccisitate that I have someone else loot till sentry's settle down?
- Simiilarly, if i attack a convoy not belonging to the nearby station ownership but within the sentry range, I assume that action is recorded and known to the real ownership and thus i'm in thread if i approach any of the owners station?
The above are also important for knowing how to gauge faction loss so answers to the above will help answer faction questions too.

Doesn't seem to be much. Some Tech2 components rarely but otherwise not worth it for money making. Just a diversion sometimes and who knows maybe good to learn how for future additions in game :)
