Edited by: Lyzander on 18/07/2004 16:23:42 Aurora is representing regular people. Not philanthropists giving a billion isk to every player in eve. Not a circus to perform for all of eve. Not a massive corporation large enough to interact with everyone.
The idea of Aurora (imho) is to add realism and fun to eve by adding in small, spontaneous day-to-day occurances.
They're not there to be attention *****s and cater to all of Eve. Not that the servers could handle the lag even if they wanted to.
Just my 2ó.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and if I didnt love CME as much as I do, I wouldnt mind joining AURORA. ^___^

Constructive posts are better Mr Sinst.
Aurora exists to work in hand with CCP and bring life to the sometimes static world of EVE.
As it stands I consider Aurora rather successful, we touch approx 500-600 players per week through continuing events, not including the three month story Arc that is currently underway with CCP.
Shortly you will have another event of the scale of the Amarr Championships enroute, including the continuing every day events.
You mentioned in your post you want bigger Events - How do you advertise an Event?
Lets break this point down a little;
o) Front page news piece
No direct advertising for Events can be done here - unless you want 1000 people flocking to an Event to participate.
o) Scope news pieces
Smaller audience, still no direct mention of Events can be done for the afore mentioned reasons.
o) Ingame advertising for a focal audience
This is the method we primarily use at present, you may pick up events from watching local, you may pick them up from in racial channels - you get the idea.
You cannot simply have an 'event' where 'everyone' can take part, it isn't realistic and isn't feesable not only in EVE but anywhere else.
An awful lot happens in the background for Events, the producers themselves spend hours designing each individual event - just because it 'only' appears to be a transport event, doesn't mean it doesn't lead to something bigger.
Ask around, you'll find people who have taken part in whole story Arcs (multiple connecting events) and throughly enjoyed themselves.
I dislike your over-all attitude, i'm all for constructive criticism however I think people should take the time to understand what they are complaining about before jumping aboard full swing and demanding changes.

You should really think before you post. You want events that "everyone" knows about? Remember the Jovian Ambassador, or the Amarr Frigate Competition? Hell, a system gets lagged if there are 20 people in it, let alone 2000 people all trying to pod the Jove/shoot the thief/etc etc. If you read the FAQs about Auroura, then i'm pretty sure its explained in there why the events have to have limited participants. They manage to limit this by fair ways....once again, read the FAQs on how to join events, i'm not gonna write them here. If you want to participate in these events, make a little effort to go find out about them, where they are happening, and how to join in. Don't just sit in a station in Yulai waiting for a big splash screen saying "all people who want 1m pieces of megacyte/a +4 implant/etc etc please proceed to a lag fest in Gensela, where an ISD operaive will be handing them out"

Aurora is doing a great job. They're organizing as many events as they can, and they're trying to make it interesting also.
Last nights event was very nice, and I didnt make a single isk off it. The event was designed for players, and the "enemies" were not aurora actors but other players.
We werent contacted by the aurora team to blow up the convoy, we decided to do it ourselves after cargo scanning the ships and making a plan. If we hadnt have done it, there was a 10 battleship pirate blockade 1 jump away that would have ended the event.
I'm very glad that I have a bounty, Its a pirates pride. I wouldnt ever have myself podded for the money, even if i was very poor (and i'm not).
Also this event was advertised in public channels to get volunteers. I was no where near the system it started and i had to go 30 jumps in 20 minutes to get there. If you cant be arsed to open your eyes for an event, dont expect the event producers to start a convo and invite you to one.
I've come across plenty of events in EVE, many of which were advertised in crowded channels, and many of which i couldnt manage to participate in. Big deal, there's always other events.
If you think you can make aurora better, I'd advise that you apply to the volunteer program instead of throwing mud at it (in a very sad way may I add). -

Maybe there should be a "Newbie F.A.Q to Events" created and posted in the Newcomers forum? Or a guide that lets people know how they can find and participate in events?
While many can argue and point the blame-finger at who's fault is it for not being able to find an event, there does seem to be a lack of information or introduction as to how a person may get involved with the regular events. Perphaps this is something that the ISD/Community can work on? :)

Methinks theyre doing a pretty good as it is.
Some more info about what and when wuold be nice, its quite hard to find an event and actually reach it atm.
Id rather see the universe becoming more "active". Actors or groups flying around with names that where mentioned in stories. The Gallente President for Example, why not make him and a few Federation Megathrons move between his Office and his house on Friday and Monday. People could figure out the root, ships that are defending and stuff and mount and attack. Then you can actually get in the news more often and it would add an overall reoplayness to the universe. ---------------------------

1. Events Forum.
Please feel free to create your own. I am sure that with a little bit of imagination everyone can do, provided they are bothered to.
2. Intergalactic Summit.
Advertise your event or create a backstory with clues and tips for people to follow. Very usefull place for roleplaying, interaction and flow of information.
3. Idea Lab.
Here you can always point to an idea of yours that you would like to be incorporated into the game. I believe that if you build your reputation in creating events by yourself, then AURORA and even CCP would find it really difficult to ignore you.
-My point is: You get out of the game what you put in it in the first place...
Please consider this as constructive critisism towards your critisisms on AURORA and nothing else.
Oh, and by the way Viceroy, nice going! I've just read Sammira's posts and even though I knew nothing about the event I have been thoroughly entertained. "Is that slaves I see in your cargo?" ________________________________

( Well, as nebulai says, there are plenty of events ongoing. iT's just often people don't post about them, so you don't know they are going on. Remember, it's not just the scope, you also have the events forum and the IGS.
Most of the events are word of mouth and it's great that players can interact in the story arcs and like Viceroy, really stir things up. I mean, you have people like Viceroy knicking the megacyte cargo, Tank CEO turning up and speaking with Serpentis rats, PIE inc members flying to take down Tal-Ramon fanatics . . . players interacting with the events to their and other enjoyment. Roleplaying who they are. And this leads on to other arcs and posts and roleplaying in channel. It's all joined together.
My advise would be to use the tools at your disposal and find events as well as speak about them in channels. Another idea is look out for persistant characters who're part of the events. buddy list em so you know when something might be goiing down. Keep the channels they frequent open. Ask people to contact you if something on.
I've never been rewarded for an event, I take part for the fun of it and am always looking out for them. )

Well Nebulai I dislike your over-all attitude as well. I have played Eve since beta 3. I have participated in Aurura events in the past and I for the most part am aware of most of the Events you run. I think you saying I dont know what im talking about a little uncalled for.
I am leaving contructive criticism. If I dont like the Eve Events right now im going to say something. You can come here and defend yourself I guess but it isnt going to change my mind. And I dont appreciate the personal attacks.
Good luck with the Events they sound like fun.

I think Aurora do a good job. Although some of the events, (cough) Serpentis Outpost (cough) were just a tad to difficult for most of us players.
Always hit the big red button whenever you get the chance.

So when you post things like this:
