i believe that ccp should add salvage drones in the next patch drones capable of salvage to free up the need to use up high slots on your ship giving the player more weopons to defend them selves

I believe that no ship should be able to fill all roles in a mission, and thus there should NEVER be salvage drones. The PVP equivalent would be combining MWDs Webs and Scrams into one slot. Let's not.

Edited by: NightF0x on 21/12/2008 20:23:18 Not sure what level missions the OP is running but in level 4 missions it's not unheard of to have an alt that specializes in salvaging. A destroyer or battlecruiser fills this role quite nicely and can effectively double your mission output without much additional time. So in effect, no I don't think they are needed. But we'll let CCP decide that. ------------------------------------

I would like to have salvage drones mostly because i already have the salvage drone operation skill that they put in the game by accident a year or so ago.

It won't happen because then salvage would be meaningless and the whole salvaging profession would be over with. Salvage parts would just be "extra" mission reward. Why even have salvaging at all in that case?

I know- it would make salvage meaningless, just like looted modules, implants and ISK. They're all just "extra" mission rewards, right?

No, each is different. Looted modules require cargo space, and you have to take time and go back to get them. ISK rewards are incidental to completing the mission. Salvage is currently different because (a) everyone is allowed to salvage any wrecks and (b) salvaging requires a different ship setup from either a looting or a mission-running ship.
If you make it so that salvage is collected automatically as the mission progresses (just like ISK rewards) then there is no point to salvage. CCP could just change the rig blueprints so rigs are made out of normal minerals, and be done with it.
Salvaging is a mini-profession, and salvage drones would eradicate that. What would that add to the game, except more ISK for mission runners?

Cheaper rigs for you? And I mean... really, salvaging is something like half the value you get from missions. How many mission runners DON'T salvage already?
Even if you assume that missioners DON'T already salvage: drones are part of a ship setup. How is switching combat drones to salvage drones in your bay different from switching a gun or two to a salvager or two? Both sacrifice DPS for loot. If your ship has a big enough drone bay to hold an extra set of heavies, then you're in a drone ship and you aren't deploying salvagers until everything is dead. If it doesn't, then you can't field any combat drones at all. Either way, it's a different ship setup from maxing out your DPS to blast through missions.

because drones can fly out. You can't use salvagers on a mission ship (save marauders) for the sole reason that it takes too long to fly between wrecks. Most salvage ships are light and fast...makes sense since they're prowling around dangerous areas, and need to move between wrecks quickly. These ships have no drone bay.
Salvage drones would do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for people who salvage as a profession and would do a LOT for people who use it as extra loot.

I suppose I'm somewhat unconvinced. If you take a raven, the ship which everyone and their brother uses to run missions, it has 8 high slots and 6 missile hardpoints. You can easily fit a tractor and salvager in the last 2 slots, and sacrifice NO dps. At that point, the only difference is the time it takes to do it with drones vs with tractors and salvagers... which can be EASILY adjusted, just by tweaking the speed of the drones.

You want effortless accrual of salvage. So that it is just gathered incidental to running the mission, like bounties. In that case why even have salvage? What would it add to the game over simply say doubling the bounties? Salvaging as it is currently implemented adds an entire profession to the game, creating much conflict and animosity between players. That's the point.
You probably think that "more ISK for me" equates to "better game design"... go back to WOW already!

Better think again. Not all mission runners are Caldari and use Ravens. Just because that's all you see in your area of space doesn't mean that's the case everywhere. 2 thumbs down for salvage drones ------------------------------------
