Good prizes will get people excited about the Alliance Tournament...
These prizes will motivate teams and give them a common goal...
People will take risks if there is a sufficient reward...
As it stands, someone from the corporation "The Priory" told me they did the math and if you manage to win the entire tourney, each member stands to profit 700 mil isk... In previous tournaments, that wouldn't cover one ship or even a single pimp module.
I realize the Dev's are busy, but the Alliance tourney is an excellent chance for you to reward the players that will invest ALOT of hard work and energy into their teams.
Sure a job well done medal and a statue are nice (I guess), but it really doesn't appeal to most people. Trust your customers and consider giving them what they want...
Please do not take this as criticism, I only want to make the tournament better.
And for the whiners who say "omg a few unique ships that are marginally better (or not) than its T2 counterpart will imbalance the entire game!" its a specious argument, a few new toys would create a buzz around the tourney and get alot of people interested while having insignificant effects on the overall game/balance issues. It's people like you that caused the Devs to want to stop doing Tourney in the first place. The fact that the tourney filled up to 100+ teams in less than a day speaks for itself as to people's interest, willingness, and commitment. Everyone knew the prizes before sign-ups were open, yet we have people begging to get in still. I for one am glad the Dev's are simply doing the tourney, and we would do the tourney even if there were no prizes. Again, you say people are doing it for the prizes, and the prizes don't appeal to most people ... the sign-ups prove you dead wrong. Either they aren't doing it for the prizes, or they would do it for no prizes at all. ________________________

The prizes for the tournament should of NEVER involved isk. Unique ships etc are all bad dieas.
i thikn in all honesty that the prizes this time round are ott Isk wise.
Making the winners insta MULTI Billionaires is a joke, and thk god Mindstar and the team had the sense to not do that again.
For me, and for KIA, this competition is about so much more thn the reward, being the winners, being known as the winners would be prize enough.
And on top of that, you get a permanent in game memorial to the achievement.
Awesome prizes imho.

Speak for yourself! I want a fedathron!
Besides the obvious, pvp is -almost- never about reward so there's not much sense to having insane prizes either. If we never had corvuses and other unique stuff, noone would "complain" now.
What we're going through is just human nature of saying "he got better stuff, why not me", which is perfectly understandable. Boink! |

eddz you wouldnt win anyway with your band of failures so thats kinda a moot view
the prizes do suck and the ccp reasoning against them seems to be that the unique ships made people overly rich causing imbalance.
newsflash, the best way to make those ships less overly valuable is to make more of them!
after all that hard thinking my brain hurts its a tough concept for sure.
its either that or theyre mindful of looking like favoring bob again if they win the good prizes, i cant decide which is more stupid

Wow, the 2 EVETV guys sticking together. What a shocker.
Anyway, Trev is right. Although we would all participate without any prizes, that doesn't give CCP the right to make them crappy.
Unique faction ships next time please.

Unique ships please, tbh. While the majority of people do this tourney for the pewpew and not the prizes, as evidenced by the signup rates, it would be nice to have a bit of a financial and "coolness" incentive for winning.

Got nothing to do with it to be honest, Eddz and I disagree on just about everything else other than this.
I see a permanant monument in game as a far more valauble prize than some reskinned battleship with a few extra hitpoints.
I'm a little bit "meh" over the giving of free gametime to the winners, I'd rather see teams have to declare their support for an ingame faction BEFORE the tournament kicked off and for it to be part of the application process. I'd rather promote IC representation of major powers in the game than give out free unique ships.
If I was assigning prizes, I'd make sure that the winners recieved a large chunk of LP, significant standings boost toward their represented faction, and a STANARD faction battleship of their choice with a full top level officer fitting (if pirate) or navy fitting if representing a Sovreign entity. Maybe throw in sets of pirate/ high end hardwiring implants.
I just don't see the point in flooding the game database with thousands of "unqiue" ships, they'll only be unique and great so long as they're rare. With the number of tournaments in recent years there's gonna be far to many fancy hulls.
I'd rather give the prizes to players in the form of high end faction gear than unique stuff as it has less of an effect on the market and people's individual wealth.

You're "meh" over free gametime? Damn ur cheap... The prizes are NOT coming out of your wallet...
And you wouldn't be "giving out free unique ships"? Its a huge investment of time, isk, etc. and elite players should have something to shoot for. Take for example the Amarr Succession Championship where Impocs, Impgeddons, Silver Magnates, and a Gold Magnate were awarded... EVE's economy was infintesimal compared to its size now, and no one whined that "omg the sky is falling!". People thought it was cool and exciting to play a game whose developers aspired to give players something unique to reward their individual achievements.
What winning teams (of past tournaments) could not afford their own "STANARD faction battleship of their choice with a full top level officer fitting (if pirate) or navy fitting"? Most already possessed these things, give players something to aspire to.
So lets put things in perspective, do you realize how huge EVE's economy is? A few unique ships would have no significant impact on the market whatsoever. The same was said about LP's awarded in the last tourney, a lame prize indeed imo.
Lastly, Edna was not talking about "flooding the game database with thousands of "unqiue" ships" but a couple more Corvus's wouldn't ruin EVE.
Bottom line, most of the people who realistically have a chance of winning the tournament have already accomplished alot in-game and should have something to strive for. So let the eat cake! Ohhh i like this idea... declaring ones loyalities to a faction be it empire or pirate faction.
but why top officer gear? empire factions have NOTHING like it... that means everyone will just side with a pirtae faction in the hopes of getting some uber mods to make them billionaires.
I spose one could choose a faction bs and pick and choose faction mods to place on it from that faction ( no officer gear ) Can you imagine how many would love to have a Estamel modded shield tanking ship with hg crystals? other wise nice idea.

i guess because im an eve tv dude (even though trev is also?) my opinion wont count but im with eddz and verone. this entire thing exists outside of normal goings-on and i dont see any reason to make it have an impact related to anything tangible in game.
obviously people are elated to participate under these conditions so why worry about changing it? i think the statue is a perfect representation of what the tournament means to viewers and hopefully participants.

I agree with Trev, respectfully kia eddz and Verone are multibillionaires in the game as it is. Also since you lads are off having a lovly time in iceland, i dont know but i dont think you've been on the other end preping for the tourny.
Its body zapping painful and i had even started smoking again last year.
The prizes blow, its not making half of eve rich, its giving the top three alittle something for all the time & money they have invested.
Actually who said it had to be rare ships... a simple X amount of isk would do. Id say because of the new blood in the game, the tournaments getting bigger, generally you dont get less valued prizes when an event gets more popular.

I believe you have accurately illustrated the motivation behind all the "these prizes blow" comments - people want to become multi multi-billionaires. If some of the unique ships from the past were given out, it is very unlikely most of those ships would be kept by the winners - they would get sold. While I couldn't say for sure how much they would each bring in, I would wager they would be more valuable than a Titan - each. I'm pretty sure that most people wouldn't like the idea of some alliance winning 10 titans. People forget that back int he day when these unique ships were given out, the maxium number of players on a team was something like 5 pilots. On top of that, you had to use the same pilots for every match ... you couldn't switch them up. Things were different then. The fact of the matter is if CCP create an "Alliance Tournament IV Winner" shuttle, people would still complain -- unlikely you could sell that and become a multi multi-billionaire. ________________________

I may have missed the point... But who needs prizes anyway? Wouldnt it be awesome to have like a statue with your name on it anchored forever in Yulai? i think you'll find a few players who would pay a lot of money for that. Or maybe winning a ship that has your name on it!
Well not YOUR NAME obviously, that would just be silly.

I always looked at the tourny as a prize fight, where one of the main driving forces was the end result of gaining ships/modules/isk that was of significant value.
The whole statue and medal thing doesnt appeal to me really, I would prefer something unique that I could use or sell.

Edited by: DHB WildCat on 27/12/2008 05:46:40 Okay you dont like giving out prizes that dont suck. To be honest I agree with the fact that given prizes out that turn the tide of the game are extreme. You do not want the tourney to affect what happens in TQ.... quoting from Kil2..."this entire thing exists outside of normal goings-on."
Fine I can live with that. However I believe that that is a two way street. I will probably be fielding several Faction Battleships in the tournament to help our team, but to also entertain. Maybe.....
I risk losing Billions in this tornament for your amusement. You say you dont want to reward my use of expensive toys to make your tournament exciting and to promote your game to someone who may not yet be a subscriber!!!??? Well then I want reimbursement for every ship I lose. If you worry the tourney will affect TQ through the prizes, than why affect TQ through the participants losses? Spawn us our ships and fittings and make the tournament completely seperate from TQ, or reward us for our losses, time, and effort.
Of course this is only one man's opinion.

The issue of prizes is a moot point for me, CCP set the standard then changed their minds, but I'm not even interested for the current prizes, they are tbh, bollox, give me a corvus etc and let me sell it for silly isk, if I'm here, I'm here for gain, tourney PVP means as much in game as the some of the bollox missions drop.

If I did the math right, if you have a 10 man team, you each stand to gain ~1.8bil for winning the tourny.
I'm not sure what to think, both sides have good arguments. I think regardless of prize, the driving force for wanting to compete should be the competition, not the prize. If you are after the prize, you should be reminded that this is a computer game. If you want to get good at something for the prize, get good at football or poker.
On the other hand, I think something more substantial than this years prizes wouldn't hurt. I think unique ships is a poor idea. They won't get used, they will get sold for a ton and then held in a hanger for eternity by a collector...very sad times. Based on that, I would save the winners a step and just give an ISK prize, allowing them to do with it as they please. If they want to buy one awesome rare ship, fine. If they want to faction fit something, great. If they want to build 100 t2 fit BC's, awesome.
Alternatively, you could give the winners a choice between the statue and medals, the ships, or the ISK, as so many pilots priorities are so vastly different on a fundamental level.
I don't normally chip in on conversations like this, apologies if I'm coming off more ridiculous than I sound in my own head.

why all the fuss?? tbqh i think most of you are talking out of your proverbial smacktard mouths. ccp DO NOT HAVE TO award any prizes as they dont have to hold the toury anyway, most of you guys fight eachother for fun in game all the time. so now we get a even playing field were isk doesnt guarentee you victory, you win, you get the perfect smack weapons for your e-peens.
the guys in my alliance want to fight to pvp some of the best pilots in game....end of....thats it as far as they are concerned.
the prizes are a bonus and i dont really care what they are. all me and my guys want is a chance to pvp some great fighters and at the end be able to say gf, best of luck, to ingame friends and enemies.
if you want to throw billions of isk into fation b/ships for the tourny then do so, but every, and i do mean every set-up is beatable. so please stop throwing your toys out of the pram and saying 'i wont be rich if i win' and concentrate on winning in the first place. i believe this years tourny will be the best yet and its open to just about everyone to win. i say bring on the tourny and seing as we know its already over subscribe, announce the entrants now so we can start making definite plans
