Perhaps this is clarified elsewhere and if so, please lead me to the place to read the explanation. However, my question is this: Is there a "real human" player named Jamyl I? Or Grand Admiral Zadaris? If so, is that character played by a CCP rep or just some random player who has managed to scramble his/her way to the top?
In other words, is the "news" we see actually reporting events that happen in game between players, or is it simply CCP keeping the backstory going?
And is there really a Sansha Claus?

Once upon a time there were ingame events, where these various significant figures were played by ISD and GMs.
Due to "leaks" on when and where these story events were going to happen, eventually it was shut down to avoid any implications of impartiality. ----------------

Event actors and real players can be identified easily.
First, only event actors can have (hacked) names which have two spaces. All players have at most a two-word name. (So, "Grand Admiral Zadaris" is a special character / event actor, whereas "GrandAdmiral Zadaris" might be a player.)
Also, corporation and corp history. Event actors often have no corp history. Most players, except the very oldest & corp loyal (now at work, but I believe that SirMolle and Rodj Blake for example might be good examples) do have a corp history. The corporation itself might tell you much: With the possible exception of some events (I've seen people who have Sarum Family in their corp history, might be connected to the Amarr Championships), no players have been in an NPC corp outside of the schools, bloodline corps or militia corps. For example, a character in a navy corp is from CCP, not a player.

Edited by: Maria Kalista on 29/12/2008 13:31:46 It makes me a really sad panda knowing CCP gave up on this. It was one of the things that sparked my interest even before there was a Mac client. I remember reading somewhere that they had an event planned to destroy, I'm guessing now here, a Serpentis base, and a bunch of players grouped together and prevented that from happening.
What I understand why they gave up on it was that at some point with every event the "event actors" got jumped on and podded before you could say 'sandwich'.
Ah yeah, lovely player base, slashing their own wrists....

I think it is from the mindset of when we had the rogue Jovian admiral running around. If you destroyed him, he would drop a Miner II BPO, which at the time was the only T2 BPO type in existence, therefore, VERY valuable. I guess they are just hoping for it again. That or just something to kill. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I've heard on several occasions, that way back, you could join any npc corp you had 2+ standing with.
I've also heard that way back, when you quit a player corp in a npc station, you used to be assigned to that npc corp, if it was the right faction for your race.
That said, the corp history is useful, because event characters tend to have employment history that says things like "Member of Serpentis Corporation for 35 years".

Several of the comments lead me to believe that it is not likely for me to run into the real, genuine Grand Admiral Zadaris or Jamyl I or the president of Gallente having a nice vacation in the middle of nowhere. However, your comment makes me wonder if it just might happen. Not that I am holding my breath.
Perhaps Someone In Authority might elucidate?

The AURORA program (volunteer event actors to run events with CCP staff) was shut down some time ago, so I don't believe we're going to have much ingame events in the near future, sadly.

Players could join NPC corps, not sure how. For example, looking through Tank CEO's employment history he's been in the Angel Cartel.
