Not bad for a newbie ^^^ :p
I agree with all of the above (I wonder if CCP actually reads the forums)

The problem is not the folk who own too many labs and do stuff with them it's the folk who get ME to 1500, for the love of god just unrent the lab or sell it or move onto a different bpo, 3 weeks ago there was a ME 570 PASSIVE TARGETER bpo on escrow First person to give me 1 valid reason to do that gets a can of quaffe ultra |

I looked at my frigate last night and the mass was 1000000 kg. The proportionate size of the base I was docking at was at least an order of 10,000 bigger, based on a rough estimate. It seems that you should be able to fit quite a few labs in an indy, or about 1000-3000 labs in the average research base. It also makes sense to me that research tends to require some extremely sensitive, expensive, specialized, and rare equipment to develop new discoveries. (especially the better discoveries)
I like the realism in a game quite a bit more than I like balance, and it seems nuts that a free-market can't develop more laboratory space when it's desperately sought after, given the likely geometry of the structures to build in. EQ proved that if you involve the imagination, you will succeed with your userbase...

I think the shortage comes mainly from people hogging slots they don't need. They keep them anyway, because they MIGHT need them again, and with the current situation they won't get new ones when they need them again (I don't exclude myself here, but at least I gave my slots to my corp, so now some people share those).

True. But, there's something to be said for joining a corporation that will share lab space.
I agree it's annoying that research & development careers aren't widely available options like mining and missions. The real point here though is that we should, as gamers, be able to DABBLE just for fun...not to mention getting to know the inner workings of the economy.
As for those who complain about "domain camping" you have to admit that the developers INTENDED monopolies on labs and factories...Though (being a n00b) i'm wondering why there's lots of factory slots open but no lab slots.
