Having spent a short amount of time here, I realise, there are a lot of angry, angry people out there. Maybe they have a poor life and let their frustration out on the internet. Or maybe they get a sexual thrill, maybe they just do it for laughs.
I say stop, enough with the insulting, flaming. Enough with the unhelpfullness, the ego's, the bitterness.
I want to see more co-operation, we all play the same game, lets try and make it better. More of the spirit showed of old, the honour, helping your fellow eve-player and man.
Come on, drop your hate. Leave it at the door, lets make this place a place people actually enjoy, and will look back in years and think "WoW, I really loved that forum".

Don't smoke pot and post tbh ...
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

lol @ alt posting.
EVE will never be a helpful friendly place.
The nature of the game is to get and hold things so that other players can not. Why would anyone want to be nice and help other players gain any sort of advantage? That literally defeats the purpose of the game.

Corps my friend. Corps. Help your corp to greater and better things, self sacrifice, its a noble cause. Also, shooting other players is fine, its part of the game of course. But, you can still be respectful. Perhaps instead of going "HAHA NEWB I BLOW U UPS!" you could say "Good fight, you made it a good one" Or, "Well done, but ill get you next time"
Think about it.

Of course you help your corp, to not do so would be pointless. No where in your OP did you mention the insanely obvious corp part, so I felt didn't need to be mentioned because of it's blatant obviousness. But if you want to reiterate as such, feel free.
If you start hooting "HAHA NEWB I BLOW U UPS!" in local in our FacWar fleets, you're liable to get booted out. Actually GF's and friendly convo is the *norm* in local after a good fight.

No my friend, you miss the point.
Yes eve is a competitive game, but to let your competitive streak get the better of you and go onto hate, that is when it has gone too far. Your post is the perfect example of this. Think, are you better as a person for making that post? You don't have to keep up a front of hostility anymore. Let it go.
You can still be competitive and friendly.

But being nice and helpfull is the worst thing we could possibly do. It creates an unrealistic expectation of the world that will cause the person more harm in the future.
For instance say a noob comes to the forum and asks a question. You are a kind and helpfull person so you offer advice and help the noob. Then someone comes along and says "I'll sell you a Navy Issue Raven for 100m isk" and the noob thinks "Gee, all those other people were so helpfull, this doesn't sound too good to be true at all!". Now you've just cause some poor person to lose everything they own. They'll probably lose all faith in humanity and fall into a deep depression. They won't trust anyone in real life, so any relationships they have will fall apart. Families will be broken up, kids sent to foster care or living on the street. Finally the poor noob ends up in a pyschiatric facility ranting about how everyone is out to get them and steal their stuff.
All because you thought "I'll be helpfull and cooperative rather then angry and hate-filled".
------ I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it. |

It's a play for the galleries. EVE is a dark world, we shoot down other people, pop their pods filled with body and fluid, we steal their money. We take slaves, pay the police to fight where people believe they are safe. We infiltrate other alliances and corporation to spy and steal, to instigate war and to create havoc.
Now, what would it look like if we were nice on the forums?
Like I said before, I will blow up peoples ship if I get the chance. I won't accept ransoms, I'm just after making them suffer for undocking in the first place. But if I meet someone that blew me up/I blew up at the FanFest or some EVE-gathering, I'll buy them a beer and have a laugh about it.
But being nice on the forums is counterproductive. I'm not gonna be nice ingame, so no point being nice here. Someone will believe that the Misanth on the forums is the Misanth ingame, and the other way around. It's better just to "stay in character" even tho I don't roleplay.

To be fair, much of the EVE experience is pleasant. It has a significant chunk falling in the range of both extremes, though. There are a lot of very friendly, fun, enjoyable people in EVE and you encounter a lot of them in various corp (even NPC corp) chat. Hell, it's flat out necessary to have people like that if you want people to join and stay with EVE since a significant amount of the information transfer is not from documentation to player, but from player to player.
On the other hand, there are a lot of mean-spirited people and they tend to gravitate toward the forums. Perhaps EVE attracts a lot of such people, because it caters to a fully open-ended experience that allows those who enjoy griefing and making life miserable for other people to be a real part of the EVE universe (not that all people who engage that particular game-play style have such a mentality when it comes to actual player interactions, of course).
It's one thing to be an a-hole in-game as part of your character and in the mechanics of your game play, but unless you're flat-out role-playing, I don't see the need to carry that over into actual discussions and interactions.
Then again, just like in the real world, EVE is populated with great people that I would love to kick it with and have a bear with in real life and some real ****s that I would kick down an escalator. Makes it more invigorating and gives great potential for motivation to pew pew some jerks. -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |

Edited by: sirovai on 05/01/2009 00:01:29 I realise, Eve would be pretty boring if everyone in it was working together. It's the people who enjoy ruining your day and podding that hold the future of eve in their hands. The very people, who the rest of eve hold in disregard.
I understand the thrill of a podkill. Fairplay to you, now, do you rise above the instinct to say "OWNED" or do you say to that person, who probably isnt feeling too good. "Fair play, be careful, take care"
It might not make the person feel better for loosing their ship, but it would go a long way to creating yourself a respectful reputation. Somthing which has far greater worth than one of being hated.
When the next new player asks a question on the forum, which has been asked a million times before. Instead of saying "NOOB" why dont you post nothing at all, or, direct them to the answer if someone hasnt already done so.

You love it yes, but, in 10 years time, will you still love it? In 20 years will you still love it? When you are lying on your death bed, will you remember what you posted just now? Or would you prefer to remember what better things you could have been doing instead, like learning new skills, new hobbies, making new friends, contributing to the game for example.
I know a lot of you will have been so used to this hatred circling round the forum, it will take a while to let it go and adjust to a new way of thinking.

Don't get me wrong, I love to help people. But I prefer to help people that don't just waste my time. Idiots need to learn when to STFU and RTFM (or in this case, RTFF) before they start asking stupid questions by the dozens.

Yes, it is called common sense my friend. Posts titled such as "HOW DO I OPEN THE MAP" would be pretty obvious. Even titles such as "HELP I CANT DO THIS THING ETC" maybe just leave them if they cause discomfort. The first step to improvement, is knowing what you can do and what you cant.
Patience is also good to have. I can see you have it within you my friend.
