Actually I have to give that title to Voyage Century Online. The difference is, it's free and very AFKable.
EvE is a game of expactations. Some times failed, some times not. It isn't what you were looking for, thats clear. Doesn't make it a bad game. Just not what you expected. |

Whilst I love Eve, at times it does feel like im at work or something. Constant mission grinding / ratting / mining for a few measly ISK that I'll probably loose in my next PvP session anyway, lol.
Sometimes it doesnt feel like a 'game' at all.....

Originally by: WarlockX let me let you in on a little secret, eve is not a PVE game and has never tried to be. don't do missions
This.
I started/quit EVE few times before I got stuck. 1) Tried some piracy first, had no skills to fly ships so I stole ore and ratloots. Got camped into a station by 200 angry russians after disrupting their business multiple times. -> 1 week quit, start over. 2) Decided to do nestle myself into a carebear corp instead and eventually steal their assets. Me and my brother and his RL pal just got too fond of the guys there so we decided to stay and help them. Got bored -> couple of months quit. 3) Third time lucky. This time I decided to PvP a bit, so I strayed away from my brother and his friend and did my own little things. I found ways to make more isk than they did while at the same time PvP more as well. Profit!
Playing with other people (joining corporations) and do PvP is the best way to get into this game. You can mine, farm missions and manufacture all you want at a later point. Corporations and the fighting is the essential part.

It doesnt take much to entertain people with such low IQ's.....you can keep a dedicated eve player preoccupied with a laser pen light for hours on end..

How in the hell can you be bored in EVE? Trading, mission running, corp management, hauling, PVP, pirating, bounty hunting, manufacturing, researching... there are countless options for the creative.
You know what boring is? Boring is playing a game with a limited number of levels and limited character development where you play the same missions repeatedly and occasionally have meaningless battles with a group of players in the same instances over and over again using the same cookie cutter template created characters until you get bored and do it all over again with a different character or race in a game that is essentially a multi-player single-player game.

Well, EVE was always for the more versatile members of the online gaming community. I guess that you "just don't get it".
If you think that EVE was all about gate camping in low sec, doing missions or training skills then I think you have been playing with the wrong people.
If you've never been on a 60+ jump roaming op though 0.0 (even if its only to get 7 jumps into it, LOL) with 30+ others on TS that are out on the hunt (then scrambling to a safe spot because of a 200 man blob in the next system about to jump into your fleet), or even been on vent in low sec having a laugh with your mates, podding sad n00bs that can't use the map, or maybe even a corp op doing something like escorting a hauler through 0.0/low sec.
It doesn't seem to me that EVE is missing something TBH, maybe you should try to think of EVE as a "non standard" MMOPG ? --

EVE's what you make it, really.
My first few months in game were fascinating. I lurked in the noob corp channels, spellbound by all the exciting words like "battleship", "warp disruptor", "webifier" etc. Until I left there and joined a corp of others I heard advertised on EVE Radio back in the days of our beloved DJ Stora (this was late 2004) and DJ Malone. Such wonders the universe held to me back then, now I just try to destroy as much of it as possible :)
But yeah, joining a corp, a mining op, getting killed by a player in a Megathron - it was so exciting - an adrenaline rush even. I think this was because the build-up to becoming a powerful character in eve is much more suspenseful than in other MMOs... The learning curve of flying the different ship classes, learning about the way the game works and the people who live here is an epic journey indeed.
I never felt bored during this time except during my self-imposed quest for a Caldari Navy Raven (back when they were rare and special things). A goal I finally achieved in mid 2005. But all those months of carebearing had squashed my once adventurous spirit into a dense ball of linearity which prevented me from even seeing how bored I was of the game. It was make or break time, and I decided I was going to take a leap into something new or leave the game - I found my way south into the wonderful IAC alliance which was my home for almost 2 years, until our corporation joined -A-.
I've been playing with the same people (some come, some go, some come back again and some new ones arrive but its essentially the same core) for the last 3+ years and it just keeps getting better.
The game has changed a LOT, the challenges are new and evolving, our aspirations as corp mates and alliance mates are increasing; our commitment to each other is unwavering. This is what its about really, space ships go boom, ours and our enemies, but at the start and at the end we are a unit working together, supporting each other to achieve something special; to constantly improve ourselves and each other at being the best we can at what we do.
That's where the fun of this game is; the people you play with, and I'm lucky enough to play with the best there is.

Basically you want the sand to tell you what to build.
Not going to happen. In EVE.
