Google(Princeton) defines world as:
# universe: everything that exists anywhere; "they study the evolution of the universe"; "the biggest tree in existence" # people in general; especially a distinctive group of people with some shared interest; "the Western world" # all of your experiences that determine how things appear to you; "his world was shattered"; "we live in different worlds"; "for them demons were as much a part of reality as trees were" # Earth: the 3rd planet from the sun; the planet we live on; "the Earth moves around the sun"; "he sailed around the world" # populace: people in general considered as a whole; "he is a hero in the eyes of the public" # a part of the earth that can be considered separately; "the outdoor world"; "the world of insects" # worldly concern: the concerns of this life as distinguished from heaven and the afterlife; "they consider the church to be independent of the world" # all of the living human inhabitants of the earth; "all the world loves a lover"; "she always used `humankind' because `mankind' seemed to slight the women" # global: involving the entire earth; not limited or provincial in scope; "global war"; "global monetary policy"; "neither national nor continental but planetary"; "a world crisis"; "of worldwide significance"
By your logic the world is a part of the universe and there's to our knowledge no tritanium around in the world. The entire description would be faulty. Parrots, commence!

Why, just because some grammar twerp can't understand the concept of "gameworld"?

Sheesh - that's wussiness of a whole new order.
To be fair, it's supposed to be from the aspect of within the gameworld. Within the gameworld it's unlikely that someone would refer to the entire universe as "the world" just like if I were on another planet, I would mean "the planet" when I say "the world".
In-game characters are not meta. They shouldn't have concepts of the "gameworld". To them it is just "the universe".
It's a nitpick, but I can understand it. And obviously the original poster was just having a jab. -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |

But that would completely nerf the way I play the game. If CCP goes ahead with this change I will be forced to cancel my 20 accounts!

Um, no.
The descriptions are NOT written from a RP standpoint, they are written for us, the players. The RP descriptions for itmes probrably would not be comprehensible to us players, as they would deal with concepts within the lore of new Eden - which for us onluy exists outside the game.
As long as it's a game, the item desciptions HAVE to be "meta", as you put it - as we are the ones that actually have to decipher them.
For us, the use4 of "world" to equal "gameworld" flows perfectly. Except for the aforementioned grammar twerps, who just have to nitpick as what everyone else perfectly understands.
