In addition ships should have different scan ranges, larger ship class longer range.
Longest of all should be the dedicated Combat Recon and Cov-ops, perhaps this would encourage more use of these ships in roaming fleets, especially the neglected Lachesis and Huginn...

Sounds like the best compromise I have heard to date. Implemented with the proper tools and tweaks. This could be brilliant.

be careful with who you call an idiot after your post... since when should 'scouting' in warfare ever promarily consist of watching a little window waiting for names to pop in...
heres something that makes alot MORE sense... the scouts would actually have to get a visual on find differences on directional scanner in order to get intel... which sounds a LOT more tactical to me.. and making a scout 100 times more usefull.
Why?!?!? because the people your scout just saw.. have NO idea what they are getting THEMselves into.
which is why this idea would rock... actually improving on the amount of sexy Eve tactics.
o and yea... spammer are really going to bug you in some random 0.0 system
think before you post
I think you misunderstand me. I completely support nerfing Local and replacing it with a revamped ship's scanner. I just don't think the OP's idea contributes to that debate.
Scout's job is different depending on circumstances, and can be as simple as watching Local. Such is the state of current game mechanics.
Local spammers will have macros that allow them to spam every single Local in EVE, and they will do just that. |

Edited by: Robert Caldera on 13/01/2009 20:18:48 keep local as it is with a partially hidden player list revealing only people which are writing in the chat for the period of time you are sitting in that local... Just like other overfilled chat rooms but without the option to display the complete player list anytime...

Oh yeah I forgot about the "you need to talk in order to reveal yourself" thing.
Still, it's a non-sense idea. Local is local, if this idea is applied then it won't be the local channel any more, just some friendly random dudes chat Daniel, 24, from Spain. Have fun and fly safe =) |

Edited by: Robert Caldera on 13/01/2009 20:31:17 well if partial visibility of the channel population is nonsense then any discussion about the local is nonsense since exactly the issue everybody in the system is revealed in local is a pain in the ass. Such discussions would just miss the problem like "we all dont want be visible in the local but wanna keep the lokal as usual lokal" or what should it be like??
