Edited by: MadMuppet on 13/01/2009 18:10:44 DAY 1 : So we are at war, very scary stuff too. I shake in fear at the sudden thought of my large unarmed cargo box being blown to pieces instantly. The Eveverse is so small that I might be cornered at any moment. I tremble as I float here in space, mining laser at the ready prepared to remove the space dust of an enemy battle cruiser moments before I have it vaporized around me. I find a pencil, it isn't sharp enough so I whittle away at it to make it extra-pointy. It is my weapon of last resort.
DAY 2: I continue to ply the space ways to find more asteroids to tear asunder waxing apathetic that death will find me at any moment. I now have a second pencil at the ready, tucked behind my ear menacingly. Tonight I dine on rations while chopping up another set of asteroids.
Last night I did lose my ship, but it was to a bunch of legitimate pirates in a low-security area of space. It is good to see people trying to make an honest living in space in light of all of the events of the last 24 hours.
Events earlier were very anti-climatic as well. Concerned about a load of frozen goods that might spoil in the station (and not wanting another spoiled cargo ticket from the Concord authorities) I careful weaved my way in to Ziona, knowing that my ship would stand no change against the certain death of the battle cruisers stalking the corp. I had heard the chatter on the comm system from the other day, so I knew the threat was real. "I am parked outside your station! Come out and fight me!" "Come on out! One-on-one!" The next transmission was garbled, but it sounds something like, "Aw come on, you gonna come out and play or not?"
So as I approached Ziona I feared a Giant Death Cruiser of Doom* would pop my ship at any moment. But there was nothing.
I grabbed my frozen goods and raced out of the station, watching the timer tick over as my ship slowly, painfully, rotated in to alignment. Warp Drive Active! YES! I had escaped!
I fly to the next system, but there was no trap. Then the next and the next. Nothing.
I check the comm system and the clock. Maybe the war was over. Nope. Odd.
War sure is quiet.
Well, my favorite show is being broadcast, '23' it is a story of a Minmatar government agent saving the galaxy from the great political downtime, I never miss an episode. Maybe that is where the enemy pilots are, at the bar watching '23' as well.
And the war continues...

All wine is toxic. The human body cannot metabolize alcohol, and when alcohol becomes present in certain organs in too high a quantity too quickly it can cause various problems.

DAY 3: The war continues. Today I found a pencil sharpener, so my two combat pencils (one behind each ear) will never be dull and I will never run out of ammo. It even has a novelty chip in it that says æYour pencil has run out of chargesÆ when you use it.
I did catch some cross chatter on the comm system and I thought I should make note of it here:
They DO know where I was! How could this be? Then I saw a sign at a station that said æLocator AgentÆ. I went over to her and asked her, ôAre you able to tell people where I am?ö and she replied ôYou are right here.ö GASP! She was right! I had better make sure that I donÆt find myself again like that, I might give myself away to the enemy.
Next up, the ransom message. Wait, how many zeros is that? 1,2,3,4à wow. I cross check the message with another. Nope. No typo, that was the amount. Well, we havenÆt paid it yet, and there is no pro-rated chart for it, so the losses we must taking have to be staggering to pay that muchà
Loading corp combat recordsà Cross ref: Mercenaries of Doom inflicted losses. Results = 4. Modify search for all losses inflicted after the start of the war. Results = 2 Modify search to remove losses inflicted on known traitors, moles, and spies that caused self inflicted losses in failed attempts to trap other members. Results =1. Compare cost of lost ship with amount of ransom demand factoring production and mining income reductions from the æwarÆà carry the oneà huhàdid you know that a calculator can laugh?
I will admit that leaving my regular stomping grounds for another system has caused a certain logistical issue for me. The asteroid belts out here are much larger, far more dense, and closer to the stations forcing me to have to fly less and mine more. This has forced me to totally rebalance all my books for the upcoming tax season. You see I had them in a nice stack by the starboard view port, but with all the extra docking and undocking from the shorter flight times they fell over.
I have been trying to determine what kind of a war this is. It isnÆt a war of conquest as there is no territory changing hands. It isnÆt an interdiction, as there are no fixed supply routes to disrupt. It isnÆt a war of attrition, as there have been no significant losses. Oh wait, here is some more comm trafficà
Ah, got it! This is a civil war! Everybody has been very friendly I guess. The single recorded combat loss was based on an agreed upon meet on the field of battle. How very noble of them to hold it that way. There is also a cross-chat about PVP ships, local sporting events, and green jello recipes.
One more bit of comm traffic to report. There was a sighting of an enemy ship in the Domain area following one of our ships. This is followed shortly there after by another sighting of the same enemy ship attempting an animalistic docking hump maneuver with an unwilling ship piloted by someone with a similar name to our corp member. Huh.
IÆve been watching reruns of the Benny Hull Variety Space Show, the babes are something to be beholdà wowzer!

Personal Log:
i think i saw one of them come online for 5 minutes today... but i was up in The Forge training new recruits so we didn't say hi or cross lasers.
I had started to think DayWalker as a friend, if not, at least a chivalrous enemy for agreeing to good terms of combat and sticking to them. except we haven't seen him online in 2 days now. This always happens when a small merc corp declares on the current 'training noobs' corp I'm in. so boring to be on the lookout in local for 2 names that glow bright red that never appear...

Day 4: The conflict continues. At least I think it does. There has been no sign of the enemy the few times IÆm been flying in the last 24 hours. There are also no additional reports of losses from either side.
I have heard from some of the other pilots explaining that they are suffering from the same problems I am, that is, finding asteroid belts with more minerals that we are used to forcing us to make above average incomes. Perhaps this is the cunning plan to get us to make mistakes on the tax forms so we all get audited in a couple months for misreporting our incomes?
What is going on around here? Oh wait; my new oracle sphere might have the answer.
What is an oracle sphere you ask? It is a small gloss black tritainum sphere with a small flat window on one side that you look in to (it also keeps if from rolling off the control panel). You hold it up above your head and shake it, calling it twice by name, and ask it yes/no or true/false questions. You then peer in to the window and the answer is revealed to you.
I bought the top of the line model, which is supposed to include a navigational assistant. The models are named after military ranks, the cheapest being the Private model, which is only slight less useful than flipping a coin in a zero-g environment. I however went all out and bought the Admiral version.
I named it Tim, after my now deceased pet bird who liked to sleep in the thermal-regulator coupling.
Holding the Oracle Sphere over my head I declare:
ôAdmiral Tim Tim!ö (Yelling seems to yield better answers IÆve found) ôCan this war be over?ö
I peer in to the window, æoutlook not certainÆ
Huh.
ôAdmiral Tim Tim! Will a large battle fleet of capital ships come to our rescue soon?ö
æMark my words, very soonÆ
Sigh. OK, that is a known bug with the Oracle Sphere system, no matter how many firmware updates they release for it, the manufacturer says that that answer is never correct and should be ignored as a flight of fantasy.
ôAdmiral Tim Tim! Should I have red wine with my Tim bird curry?ö
æYes and truly, this is right.Æ
Ok, time to eat. MMM tastes like chicken.
Until tomorrowà
