Is there a way to prove without a doubt that one is not a freaking spy?
I left EVE about 18 months ago losing all my assets etc, but now came back starting from scratch. Any corp I apply to thinks I'm a spy because I admit honestly that I've played EVE before......
What the hell can I do? I'd rather chop off my nuts than spend my time watching people's movements!

Not all corps will assume that. Some people will believe your story. It's very hard to prove one way or another though (you could be returning or you could be resubbing an account that has been inactive for a while due to RL).
About all you can do is not let the overly-paranoid get to you and just keep looking around for some more trusting people. |

There is no definitive way to distinguish spies from non spies. That's why they're so dangerous. If it were possible to tell 100%, then the job of a spy would die off.
Any half decent spy has no ingame affiliation or ties to his sponsors. Spies operate outside the parameters of the game which means trying to spot one ingame is near impossible. It's all down to suspicious behavior clues. Paranoia pays off in eve and if a CEO suspects something, he's better off rejecting innocent players to weed out a potential real spy. You wouldn't complain about needles when you get a tattoo. So why would you complain about PvP when you play EVE? |

Tell them the truth if they think your a spy joke with them a little bit about it they'll see your true character as not being a kaniving ass hat and they might give it a rest.

The more corp-related threads I read, the more I'm convinced that there are just three types of corp:
1. Those that want to cheat and steal from their recruits.
2. Those that think their recruits want to cheat and steal from them.
3. Those that do both of the above. |

You imply that they actually believe you are a spy. There are plenty of players who simply don't know how to send somebody his way in a polite manner.

Join a pirate corp, they'll automatically assume you're planning to steal from them and you'll automatically assume they'll take anything they can from you the second you look the other way. That kind of distrust makes eve friendships strong |

One thing I would strongly advise against is lying to get in a corp. If you have to lie, it's probably the wrong corp for you. And when you are caught lying, the consequences can be bad. Just last week someone was trying to join my corp and while I was interviewing him about it I discovered he'd been lying, needless to say it didn't end well for him, I don't take that kind of thing lightly (he wasn't actually a spy, but he was lying about his reasons for wanting to join the corp). |

Fixed that for you.
There are many ways to do this risk management, some more draconian than others. As long as those measures are along the lines of: "this is what I would do if I were in this position" you're probably looking at a corp you can live with as far as the "trust" aspect is concerned.

The truth: a vast majority of the corps tripping over themselves to question you about the possibility of you being a spy don't actually have enough assets to attract the kind of spy they imagine is nipping at their heels from every shadow.
The corps and alliances that do have those kinds of assets have learned how to deal with such things without ever having to ask the question. |

Sounds like those corps had previous or recent thefts so they become overly cautious over everything. It isn't hard to make corp theft difficult, and most corps that are actively recruiting are small corps with not enough assets for a spy or corp thief to bother with. Large corps already know how to secure their assets, and normally have ways to deal with new recruits without giving them too much access (the main thing is access roles, theft occurs easiest when a corp gives access roles to someone who really didn't need them in the first place and the corp was too trusting).
Is there anything in your corp history or such that would make them believe that you are a spy? Are they seeing things in your api (if any have asked for it and you have given them a code) that would make them think twice about accepting your app?
Otherwise, I would say go the the recruitment forums and make a post. Corps will actively go after you which will likely end better, as seeking out corps without solicitation can cause them to become suspicious of your intent. |

It definitely helped proofing myself loyal that I blew up my former corpmates during that war.... Unbanned since 2011.10.20. |

Um, shouldn't a corp that recruits you:
(1) Check with the diplo officer of your previous corp and
(2) Not give you full access to corporate resources and information until you've been in the Corp for a trial period?
... because that's pretty standard. What are you doing to these people that are causing them to assume you're a spy beyond the standard precautions? Is one of your old corps in Goonfleet or something? |

This is actually very true. Many recruiters feels uncomfterbale turning down a recruit, especially since many will try to argue in defense of them selfes. So stating something like "Your a spy" is a very easy way to just say no,and block you from their public channel without anyone questioning the recruit.
But without hearing the recruiters side of the story i cant say for sure that its something like this that happend. Its very common that people create new characters when returning to the game,or spend months in an NPC corp (this second one is a warning flag but in general people will believe you if you say you simply couldent play). But its possible that you said other things or gave an impression that you had..altenate (think thats how you say it in english) motives and that enforced the suspicion they had.
The things you said might sound fine to you,but remember that everyone thinks differently and word them selfes differently then you do. Heck even a language barrier can cause it. I know that i have been told several times that i come across as cold and angry when i talk to people that arent used to my accent or how i formulate a sentance.
But be patient with the recruiters. Keep being honest with them and explain that you are a returning player. Let them know that you are more then willing to just hang around and chat for a few days so they can get to know you. And you might also want to check weather or not the corp/alliance your applying to is in a war since this is going to make any recruiter a bit more paranoid (unless you are looking into one of the classic 0.0 alliances that always are in a few wars and couldent care less ).
I wish you the best of luck and i hope you will find a recruiter and corp that is willing to give you a chanse. |

But seriously, it sounds like you're joining ****** corps. You can offer your full API as a means to verify you were unsubscribed on that account, but I am doubting they'd know how to determine that. - "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Its all about layering security.
If they wont let you in because they think you are a spy, yet you've handed over your api and whatever else they've asked of you, just find another corp to join. |
