It already transfers ships/fits and other related nonsense, why can't it transfer POS stuff, i just like to test manufacturing things, and all these new Mirrors is not making it easy...
Why did CCP create this latest Mirror when clearly they were not scheduled to do it for atleast another month or two?
So...it frees up all the moons for players to test on? I wouldn't be surprised if close to every moon in null and lowsec was claimed, even the worthless ones, so unless you feel like clearing everything yourself, its much easier just to do a database wipe.
Also, the reason the database wipe is done from mirror to mirror is precisely so that the developers don't have to keep track of the insignificant operations you might have been involved in. Oh yes, lets make gobs more work for the GM's and BH's by forcing them to micromanage every little operation that they possibly can, that sounds like a brilliant waste of their time. By the way, did I mention that your operations are insignificant compared to testing the impact of entire new lines of coding?
Singularity exists as a server for the developers to test expansions on. The reason mirrors happen, and the only reason is that CCP have something that they require a mirror to test. It isn't for the playerbase who just finished a rank 5 skill that they don't feel like training again, its for the devs.
Singularity exists for the developers.
Singularity exists for the developers.
Do you get it now? Singularity is only here for us as a toy, CCP is in no way obligated to maintain the free test server for player entertainment, its for them to work on making the next expansion deploy relatively smoothly.
Expansion work >>>>>>>>>> Your time and effort setting up towers.
Now quit bitching about it. Feel privileged that you're even allowed onto singularity in the first place. |

I'm assuming the test server doesn't have the same hardware muscle behind it that the production servers has, and copying all the POS and other infrastructure would put a lot of extra load on the test server that in most cases would not be used. Actually i've discussed this with CCP, Singularity runs on identicle servers to Tranquility, it is no different hardwarewise to TQ, it can handle whatever TQ can handle. The reason i've always been given was to avoid people spying on POS locations ect without risk of being as CCP would put it "shot in the face"
Actually, that isn't necessarily true. Singularity is only run off a very sparing number of nodes and it creates a huge amount of strain. When I spoke to Oneiromancer years ago about why towers were removed (as I ran quite a few back then,) Oneiromancer told me that it was stress on the server and I just shrugged and accepted it. It might be a bit of both, though, but anyone with a cloaky, nullified tengu or loki could easily probe out hostile towers on TQ and not worry about a thing, so I'm thinking its the combination of both, eradicating thousands of towers while at the same time freeing up moons for testing and preventing armchair covert ops.

The issue with that, Mashie, is that anyone who keeps track of things like where the R64 moons are already knows where they are and the entire measure of changing moon goo is virtually moribund. |
