Hello,
Typically I use a windows machine for eve but at the moment Iḿ trying to run a second client on a linux machine. I managed to install eve without incident, but...
After starting up my Eve client displays a white background for the login screen. The menus seem to work and I can get past authentication. This is about as far as I can get. The character portraits fail to load. Neither does the news bar on the right. At this point I cant select a character to log into and the game is stuck.
For what itś worth Iḿ running: a clean install of Ubuntu 8.10 on a Athlon XP 1.8ghz w/512mb of ram MSI mobo /w ViaKT400a chipset with X800XT 256MB graphics.
From what I've read just about everything in this rig ( new version of Ubuntu, AXP, ATI ) is somehow broken at this time so I'm not sure if I should even try to troubleshoot any further. Also, while I feel at home using Windows ( I moonlight programming a soft-realtime robotic control system ), I'm not very familiar with this OS.
But if there is someone out there who doesn't hate hand-holding I would appreciate some help getting eve to run on this machine.
Thank you, |

Same thing happens with my Radeon x850xt. Using wine lets me see the background but it still crashes on authentication

I would try adding some RAM. I have a laptop that I could run eve under decently with windows, but with linux I get 3 - 4 fps. I have 1 gig memory on that laptop, but I think my poor performance is caused by not enough memory. (To be fair, it's a dual p4 with a nvidia 5200 go.)

The linux requirement section does say "ATI graphics cards are not supported. ". I almost have the same rig as you guys and the same problem here. With cedega, the system hangs and when its with wine, it crashes. ATI is a big pile of poo with this situation. |
