Currently training my main for a proper Marauder setup (Paladin) and my alt for a Guardian as support.
Anyone knows if that will be enough to efficiently run level Vs? |

I can has your standings?
Its my understanding that you will require atleast a carrier class ship to be able to deal the DPS required and tank the DPS incoming.
Having said that, I am no expert with L5's so not much help there. Trial and error? :D |

The Paladin will have a tank of ~2400 DPS (4 RRs and 2 ETs) with the Guardian supporting it.
Think that should be enough but I'm not quite sure, that's why I ask. =) |

Edited by: echohead on 19/01/2009 15:01:48 Hey it's you again.
carriers are not needed for 95% of lvl5's. Your only problems with that setup is that it is active. And most lvl5's have a lot of neut towers, and the towers have a lot more HP than a normal tower (my guess would be about as much hp as an large structure in a lvl4).
But if you pull the easier lvl5's you would do fine. Just might take a long time with one dps ship

Hey ;-)
Yeah this setup is active, but the Guardian won't be hit by the neuts if things go right, so the tank won't break.
The 2 LETs on the Guardian should keep the guns working as they give a good load of capactitor transfered.
But like I said, I never did one of those so please keep correcting me if I'm on the wrong road. ;-)
P.S.: Looking forward to the mission trials with your group :)

I have only done one Level 5 mission, and it was a pretty easy one. But in that mission we tanked with a passive NH. The Neut towers drained him completely. Once we killed some stuff, a second set of neut towers spawned. They completely drained a Golem before we killed them.
Subsequent waves of regular ships also spawned and targeted our DPS ships - so every ship should have some tank.
Furthermore, with a NH tanking and a Navy Mega and Golem providing DPS, I personally thought the mission was a little slow. I would have really liked another DPS ship to speed things up. That, and my corp mate needs to train for torps instead of his fail cruise missiles. |

considering this person: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=904390 does them with a maurader + logistic domnix, i would assume a guardian works too (though it has less survivability if targeted) -sig-

The basics of it are that yes, you will be able to do it, however:-
if the guardian gets agro u will be in trouble, and lvl 5s can have lots of re-spawns that like attacking logistics.
Secondly, your dps will be low and so it'll b very slow. You'll prob make more ISK speed running lvl 4s with that setup.
As said above, someone does them with domi and dps BS. Means u cover the above probs as domi can have decent tank of its own, and contribute 450 dps from drones.
I'd recommend u pair the Paladin with a Domi, or an Ishtar. If Domi, use it as a logistic but with dps. If Ishtar, let the Ishtar tank and go all gank on the Paladin with remote reps in the highs to tank the Ishtar. U can even shield tank it. While u train either, u could use a myridom to try it out.

The Paladin must be totally passive tanked... Since the level 5 neut towers are bit... Well they are worst than anything that we counter in missions. Neuts mean that your lasers will be mostly offline.
So no, that's not a good way.
Basic level 5 setup is passive tanker (nighthawk for example or ishtar), few logistic ships and some bs class damage dealers.

I have tried a few Lvl V's on Sisi, we used a high skilled T2 fitted passive Nighthawk and a kronos with one large and one medium Shield transporter plus 5 medium shield drones.
We did 4 or 5 easily solo able missions, that didn't require any assistance from the kronos.
On a Minmatar mission the Nighthawk couldn't tank the initial aggro and was lost, second time I managed to warp in and get the 2 transporters on him and this was sufficient. He was easily maintaining 50% shields. My guess is that he could have taken full aggro if fitted with Dread Guristas hardeners.

If you really need to tank, get a HIC like the Onyx or Devoter (i used the latter), get a logistics bs, and a bs like a raven just for dps.
Devoter with 80+ on all resists and 10k+ armour, or 90%+ resists if you just want to tank 2 resistances with passive hardeners with simple t2 mods. Plus low sig radius. Can tank any mission you need it to, with remote repping.
You would need 3 chars of course but it is easy. |

I ♥ My paladin + guardian combo, use it for alot of high End Low sec plexs aswell as Cosmos Plexs. If you want to just minimise your second account and concentrate on controlling your pali try the following:
Paladin with no cap mods (use painters/webs instead, resistance mods and nanopumps etc), Resistance mods and Rep, and then Large remote reps and Energy transfer In the 3 'Utility hi slots' (instead of the tractor/salvagers)
Guardian with Afterburner, resistance mods, Medium Repairs, in Hi slots 1 large remote rep, 2 large remote energy transfer, and 3x medium energy transfers (this combo will run non stop with the 1x large energy trasfer from the pali boosting it)
You need the guardian to orbit the Pali to increase your 'speed tank', and have all the energy transfers running on the pali to keep all its repairers, mods, and remote reps and energy transfer running.
I haven't come across any lvl 5s that have multiple rooms yet, only multiple waves, so the guardian will get agro. Just make sure it doesnt get webbed so you can have the added bonus from the speed tank.
Not all missions have neut towers, many Blood cruisers nos tho, so learn the ships names names (eg sages, priests), learn the missions names to so you don't bight off more than you can chew. some missions have enough Neut towers theyll break a cap rigged Carriers recharge.
hope this helps alittle, really when it comes down to it, it all relies on you researching the mission before hand, and building up your own database of missions to aviod.

Thanks for the nice info! Getting rid of the salvage/tractor mods for some energy transfer sounds like a reasonable plan as it should generate more cap as it eats, in numbers. |

We use the same combo with bs/logistic, only CNR/basilisk and it works wonders, in theory. All you have to do is to make sure you have cap to run your guns. With my CNR im drained after a minute and the cap doesnt come back until the neut towers are gone.
Normally we leave the neut towers until everything else is killed so that they wont respawn and start neuting the basilisk.
Also be aware of new spawns. They tend to go for the logistic, so a few warp outs are needed.
Other than that, good luck and have fun with the LP's |

Does anyone in here have a rough number of how much DPS you will be facing in those missions?
In L4s it was about 600-700 DPS (to have no worries)... Anyone got an idea for L5s?

Enough to break your Carriers Tank (single Cap repairer) if you misstrigger every wave at once.

Hm, not as precise as I was hoping but I guess a Archon would have a tank of aprox. 3500-4500 DPS.
So... Let's not shoot the triggers first. :) |

Huh, I was under the impression that carriers couldn't undertake missions, but I had never even considered doing a level 5 since I'm not in a corp.
I acquired a Thanatos for a couple million about four months back and couldn't bear to part with it. (if you must know, I based my buy price because I thought it was the going price judging by the buy orders and contracts.) I still lack the two main skills to fly it, I cannot justify the price of the books , so it just sits in the hangar. But if I can take it on missions, I might just save up my monays.
My questions: Can I solo a 5 in a Thanatos (It couldn't hurt to ask.)? What is a good setup for a mission runner of this nature? Who knows a good corp that partakes in level 5 missions? ~/~ Sultan of Buruni |

Capitals need fleet members with cyno fields to move them around. You could only solo them in a Carrier (i'm assuming you mean 1 charatcer by 'solo') IF the agent spawned the mission in the same system as your cap is parked.
This is practicaly the same hit and miss 'tactic' that 'Hi-sec only' pilots use to try and get the agents to send them to a nearby 0.5 system. Very time consuming and boring indeed.
As stated preiously in this thread, there's missions that will spawn enough Neutriliser towers to break a Cap rigged carriers recharge rate and eventually drain them to 0, and theres some missions that will break a single Repairer carriers tank if improperly triggered.
I would suggest looking through some of Abyss Wyrm's Lvl 5 Video's to familiarise your self with the change of pace from lvl 4's.
I honestly think the safest way to run these is with a fleet of 4, 2 Logisitics energy transfering and remote repping eachother, and 2 BS's for DPS being remote repped by the logistics.
Theres plenty of people that have an Unfounded faith in their Nighthawks, passive tanks, and will recommend it becuase EFT told them they have x amount of epeen pionts. I would stick to bs, logisitics and Carriers before wasting hours of your life in a BC varient trying to fight your way through dozens of BS and cruiser with Hvy missles (youll see what i mean when you look at the vids)
