I know ... there have been countless threads lately regarding Iceland and their current economic problems. It has been stated previously by the CCP developers that 'CCP is stable.'
Tonight, I was reading an interesting news article and read something that greatly disturbed me. I've quoted it below:
Quote: "One year ago, Iceland was named the most desirable country in the world. Today, its economy has been devastated by the catastrophic collapse of its three largest banks. Unemployment rose 45% between November and December, and a recent survey indicated that 40% of households and 70% of businesses were technically bankrupt. Since the fall of the banks in October, there have been no resignations from the government, the boards of the now nationalized banks have remained substantially the same, and weekly gatherings calling for new elections have been ignored."
Source: {~the link~)
So is CCP one of the 30% who are alright or are they just hiding the truth from us - that our beloved EVE is on the verge of dying?
I'll be reading this thread through-out the next few days but my replies will be limited as I don't have access to the internet on a regular basis at the moment.

Icelandic (isk) value drops.
Majority of CCP's cash income comes from canadian, american and european dollars.
What do you think?
But seriously, someone posted a while ago basically stating just that.

Take EVE's active subscriptions, multiply it by 14.95 a month and you get a gross of what CCP makes in a month form EVE. Take out the taxes and other fees, and your left with well over $3m a month from this game. I dont think CCP spends $3m a month. Even at $2m they couldnt spend all of that. CCP will stay afloat. |

Now add in gtc sales because you just know that the majority of them are not being used to resub an account. |

A fair question however the key here is the foreign currency. If CCP were making grand pianos in Iceland for sale on the local market they would be proper ****ed. Since their revenue stream comes from over seas they are in a good position.
Besides, what better for online games than high unemployment?!? (Disclaimer: I don't find economic hardship funny.) |

They seem like a team that is close-knit enough to all agree for an all-around paycut if needed.

Ghost training 'fixed' at a bad time hurt thier alt subs. They won't admit it but it's there in the tea leaves.
Die? No. All MMO's are in decline. There is simply no new blood coming in. We steal from this game, they still from that guy and that guy steals subs from us. There isn't much EvE can do about that. We are too old to bring in new blood. CCP could.. make a new game I suppose. Someone needs to. Not another cardboard cut out one either. Otherwise EvE will shrink up and die. Just because it's an MMO. Good bad or otherwise. |

I agree but instead of gaining 3 to 6 months a year in paid sub, they lost 12. Bad economy, left with additional cost options customers dropped the alt. The plan backfired. |

CCP is a multinational corp.
It has offices in England, United States, China in addition to Iceland.
It's hard to know how their Icelandic employees have been affected. It would depend on how easily they can change euros and dollars for krona.
However considering that all monies are paid in euro or dollars it is probably that the main company is well enough off. I'm sure they lost some money in the Icelandic bank failures but overall they are probably in good shape compared to most Icelanders.
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts.

This is going way off topic, but it bears mentioning that previously there were problems with converting USD and EUR to Krona, as the national banking system was basically restricting such conversion to keep the ISK from completely crashing. AFAIK CCP (along with others) *****ed, and the government relented. I haven't heard any stories as of late, so I can only assume that everything is once again flowing well in the CCP accounting department.
And although people do like to overestimate the importance of CCP to Iceland (<50mil USD/year in revenue, and that doesn't all come home) they are one of only a small number of non-seafood companies that are bringing money in to the country. Many of the Icelandic businesses are either banking (which went bust), local services (which are bust because no one has any money) or Iceland's historic seafood business. They're not nearly big enough to make the government bend to their will, but they're on the short-list of Icelandic multi-national companies that export something other than seafood, which is of great interest to the government.
Oh, and in case it hasn't been made clear, leaving Iceland was a threat that the government folded to. They let up on their restrictions against currency conversion (as mentioned above) which was the cause of CCP threatening to leave in the first place. |

CCP is fine because they deal with a sector that is not hit as significantly by the financial crisis AND because they're based on an international audience instead of only the icelandic population.
At worst they'll move out of the country to avoid any half-arsed regulations that might be imposed, at which point they're most likely to set up in London seeing as they've got offices there and it's closer to Iceland than their Atlanta branch. |

fail.
Servers are in London in one of the Telehouse data centres out towards/in the Docklands area. So even if CCP up sticks and move the servers won't...
Now as to how good Telehouse's books are at the moment god knows, but given the amount of customers I can't see them vanishing overni<<Carrier lost>>

250k subscribers, each paying 15$ a month...
3.75 million dollars a month... if they were going bankrupt i dont know where all that money would be going, especially for a relatively small company.
