As stated ALWAYS decline any missions that require you to kill another factions ships. This is fastest way to lose standings and you could become KOS within a matter of a few missions towards another faction. If its been less than 4 hours do missions for another agent then come back and decline it you got 7 days to decline. Doing this prevents you from losing faction from repeated declines.
Another thing is that even if a faction is -8 to your current mission faction, when you do a storyline they only go down half or less compared to your gain. What this means is that you can achieve good standings with all main factions if you round robbin and do them all. Another trick is to go through thier friends so the hit is less.
Example: I am currently -1 to caldari and -.5 to amarr from missioning gallante. So to prevent them from going lower but to still increase my gallante I am running sisters of eve missions. Sisters of eve is 8 to gallante so storylines give almost as much as if it was gallante and 4 or 5 to minmitar plus other i don't care about factions. Thing is sisters of eve is only -.25 towards caladri and -1 towards amarr. Since my faction with those 2 is pretty much at that point I can do storyline missions with NO repirations since the faction cant go below or higher then its standing towards the storyline missioning.
So basically I can do 1000 more missions and max out gallante without ever touching caldari/amarr which I will do later.
On a side note one of the amarr factions (since theres like 3) has high amarr and caldari but only -3 and -2 towards gallante/min. Doing missions for that faction will keep the gains I get from gallante without much change.
As for every faction it is practically impossible to keep all pirate AND 4 main factions high. Easiest way to not take such bad pirate hits is to do courrier missions as most empire missions involve killing pirates. Delivery however won't effect anything minus storyline.

Edited by: MooKids on 22/01/2009 04:28:29 True, however it is usually a low amount of faction drop.
However, by "always" declining those missions, if you do it too often (within a 24 hour period), you will lose standing with the faction of the agent you are doing missions for. I believe the first decline doesn't affect anything, but repeated in a 24 hour period will.
EDIT: I see someone pressed New Topic instead of Reply. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

You can decline one mission per agent every four hours, or else you lose standing with that corporation. Changes to faction standings come mainly from running storyline missions. Running regular missions against other factions will reduce standing, but not by much (unless you do it a lot.) |
