Well I met this player who invited me to help him haul some items. The first time I was able to take the items from the container, and then the next time I was not able to take from the container because I got the CONCORD Warning. I almost felt for it but another player listening in the local channel said to me: DO NOT TAKE FROM THE CONTAINER HE WILL KILL YOU. That player that told me not to take the items did not tell me about CAN FLIPPING, but he gave me heads up. So I asked another player friend of mines, so I got the idea now. I should avoid unknown hauling offers. The question are UNKNOWN HAULING OFFERS a possible sign of CAN FLIPPING? Can you tell me what other Methods there are? Thanks. |

Common sense, if the can is yellow taking from it will flag you to the onwer and his player corp.
- Check info on the can, see who the owner is, check the corp of that person and see if there's more of them in local.
- why would ANYONE ask some unkown person to take their assets and haul it for them. Sure it can happen with the best of intentions but most of the times you're best off being paranoid and not get flagged.

Ok, I got the idea: DO NOT TAKE FROM YELLOW CONTAINERS. But some times the CONS are white, is that a sign that he might've have taken the content and then replaced it with something else so the container is white again? Secret Service |

Containers and wrecks are white only when they are owned by you, a fleet member or a corp member.
Another thing to be wary of is fleet invitations. Players lure others with free salvage or loot at a mission complex and then turn on them without Concord intervention.

eh? Now that the lofty scam has been patched out, fleeting with someone is 100% safe. The only thing they could do is drop fleet or leave system/dock and hope you get flagged by taking stuff from the yellow wreaks. If you still have the concord notice popping up you will get a warning about this as well though.

Fair enough. I was under the impression attacking fleet members was allowed

LOL This is EVE and I don't trust anybody :) lol not even the overview.
I see white cargo containers all of the time but I know thier not mine so I don't touch them. I just figured the overview was glitchy at times. Just like when you've been jumping through a few gates and notice a stargate (or other celestial object) has an orange low security warning on the overview.
So the white (obviously not yours) containers are a glitch right? Which of course makes this just all the more fun. Join a Corp, Make friends, DON'T TRUST ANYBODY!
I have ISK, Ships and resources but am leary of joing a corp as It would probably just cost me.

I sometimes help newbies at hauiling their stuff. C'mon it sucks to drive a Bantam and go back to the station each 200m3...
He gets faster income and I keep a % and meet a new e-friend. We all win :)
Of course paranoids can enjoy their station-belt flying each 2minutes and stay autistic forever lol. |

Simple solution - just never disable that CONCORD warning. If you always say "OK, no I don't want to take from this any more" when you get the warning, you will never be flagged to another player, even if they drop fleet a split-second before you take from their can. |

The flipped container will be white if the other person is in the same corporation you are, so the can color in th Overview is NOT, repeat *NOT* a reliable indicator that your can hasn't been flipped.
The ONLY reliable way to tell is to Show Info on the can, and look at the owner. If it's not you, DON'T OPEN THE CAN. Clear and simple. Get into that habit, and you'll be immune to can-flipping. Not to mention being able to drink some griefer's tears when he realizes you're not falling for it :)
And before aome joker starts yapping that self-serving prattle about "there's no griefing in EvE, only piwating" - when you go out there to pick a fight with someone who has NO possibility of fighting back - that's griefing (causing grief to the other player), plain and simple.
Why do you think can-stalking and flipping are bannable offenses in the newbie systems then?

Now that you understand how it works, you should go try it.
Most of the time the people don't take the bait though so you are stuck with a can full of minerals too big for your cargo hold. So always keep a hauler in a nearby system. No use in letting them go to waste.

If you really want to try and get them to shoot at you then pop the can with all their minerals in it, that seems to increase the potential of retribution thus increasing your potential of getting a fight.

Actually, only labeling can's things such as "Free Ore" outside the beginning stations is a bannable offense (warning first of course).
You are perfectly free to can flip to your hearts content anywhere you wish. |

train for and equip a tractor.
make it clear that if you can't tractor it you aren't hauling it.
the guy you fleeted with probably had an alt flip the can. ----------------------------------------------- Don't think of it as dying, Think of it as leaving early to avoid the rush |

Be wary about picking fights with people in frigates that can flip you is my advice.
Met a friend of mine from another gaming forum in game, and he told me of his can flipping tactics (he likes to antagonize other players).
Just because you are mining in a larger vessel than them that might be able to take them out like a little fly, doesn't mean they don't have an alt/corpmate waiting to warp in from the next belt, or a battleship parked in the nearby station.
I was mining with a corp mate and had my alt hauling for is, and while we were at it, the corpmate was can flipped. The flipper in a frigate, was red, and I was in battleship, so could have easily taken them out, but I remember what my boardmate had told me about his tactics, and figured the guy wasn't worth it. 1 in 10 shot he was one of *those* flippers.
He floated around for 10 minutes or so, had a quick chuckle in local, got bored, and left. :)

Really? I swear my hauler alt sees my can as a yellow even though i'm in the same fleet and have him in my buddy list :S (and the can is still white to me)

Just tested it with my main and alt in different corporations. Any containers and wrecks instantly turn white in the overview, although the bracket takes some time to update. |

so they can gank em, I got a story about this
guy asks for help hauling his can in local so I warp over in my zealot flip the can, and have my blockade runner alt grab the can and run. well ofc a gank squad comes in, arazu, munin, and drake. the drake manages to scramble/shoot my crane, which just warped off as it had +2 to warp core strength back then, drake disappears, I wonder where the wreck was. I try to seperate the arazu and munin, and well nano gank zealot up close on an arazu is bad trouble for the arazu, boom arazu. he had muon damps and whatnot. and well zealot vs munin, I just watched garmonation I'm getting the **** out, I seen what a rupture can do I don't want to see the munin, has uber em resists and in general better stats than the rupture. looking back probably could have orbited at 20km, and kept a point on and killed him. as well I doubt anyone of garmons level would have been flying with these guys.
turns out the drake realized he ****ed up, and warped off, to a planet. see caldari battlecruiser wreck on the directional scanner, scanned it out with directional scanner and scooped the loot.
sometimes it is more fun to spring the trap and see what happens
