I've been playing for a lil over a month now and just got around to switching my main character pic for something I'm a little more fond of, little problem though, I now have 2 characters with the same picture and its the pic I was trying to replace, also, I cant seem to find the target portrait folder on my comp to delete and make the new one active. My computer doesn't seem to use the same path as the instructions do; where to start?
I'm worried now that I've been shafted out of 10 bucks. I was under the impression portrait swap would trade out the old for the new pic and give the old to my temporary character, but now I have two of the same original character. |

The problem is likely due to the cache on your computer. But I have done several portrait swaps, and they have never taken less than 2 or 3 months for me.
You just have to accept that the process is annoyingly slow. I have no idea why this is such an issue with EVE. You would think that it would be a pretty simple thing to do.
Eventually you will see the swap. You wont be shafted out of your $10. But it will take a long long long time.

Do you know of other people who have had it taken this long? If I'd known 2-3 months I would never have bothered |

Yep. The first couple times I complained about it here like you are doing. And found out that apparently it is quite common.
I've been told that the reason is because they have only one server rendering portraits for everyone in the game, so there is a long line. I find that a little hard to believe myself, but who knows. Maybe CCP does it on purpose to discourage portrait swapping. It seems to be moot either way, because it has been this way for years and there are no signs at all that it is going to change.
Still, it is definitely better than nothing. I have been playing this game long enough to remember when the only way to change your portrait was to start a new character (I did that too). Beggars cant be choosers.

Please petition this under Billing-Character Portraits.
As you can see from this thread we are currently having issues with our avatar generator and are working with our partners IBM to fix this.

currently means since almost forever by the way=p
Ive once had it take 6 months (on a character i made right when bloodlines came out). This character im currently posting on is 4 months old.
Seems like they could just... take it out of the games database or something.

Edited by: Billy Sastard on 23/01/2009 08:05:57 The change in game should be almost immediate, on the forums can take months. If you are not seeing the new portrait in game then you need to clear your cache, or at least clear out the cached version of your old portrait.
p.s. I just looked you up in game and your portrait in game looks nothing like this one on the forums so the change has gone through in game. |

I did a swap recently, both game and forum avatars were changed pretty much on the spot. |
