Not a big deal, and I admit I do not know if the twinkling of the stars in the back ground is client or server side...
But if it is server side, why not get rid of it..since we're all playing in a vaccum...
Or is this something you can disable in the menu, and I need to pay more attention?
And, no, not really willing to give up my stuff over the twinkle..

The light wavelengths can still fluctuate between the star and your ship if there was any sort of interference in between; pockets of stellar gasses or whatnot.

I'm very curious as to how you created a link between blinking lights and server lag... very curious indeed. |

Just a suggestion. In the future, if you are going to bring up a issue about lag, you may want to actually mention lag in the opening post. |

*FLASH!* What you saw was not twinkling stars, some swamp gas from a weather balloon refracted the light from Venus. Now go to CCP's main office and stab a fork in your eye

Either that or Peter Pan's frosty, violated corpse is interfering with your view of the star.
(In case you're wondering, the wreck next to him was of the velator persuasion. Now you know. Pan was a newb.)

On average in our galaxy there's 3 molecules of Hydrogen per cubic meter in "empty" space.
EvE just has a whole bunch more :P

For the same reason your ship 'shifts' up and down in warp. Static graphics don't work well with most game engines. |

The EVE cluster has an atmosphere. This explains star twinkling, background cloud banks in nearly every system and why our ships have a maximum speed.
It's also why the fast ships have wings and the minmitar can get away with their back up drive sails.

Only half finished and completely inapplicable now, I started to make this back when I was in that Alliance and when I still saw the deemer as having a combat purpose. Both a memory but I still remembered the vid when I saw the title to this. |

That would have been one of the creepyist videos ive ever seen if instead of the ending like you had it just cut out into static for a second and that was it.

yeah... i'll agree... a bright flash... then static would have made this a creepier vid

It's the variant of the song that makes it psycho creepy. If you ever get the chance to see the anime movie, Deadspace Downfall go for it. Its where I got the song and it's a creepy ass movie. |

Stars in the night sky twinkle because the Earth's atmosphere bends the incoming light, much like water refracts light.
Have you ever seen heatwaves? It's the same deal. |

Yah, although what did it for me was the idea that I was supposed to believe someone was so ignorant as think that it would be a server-side effect -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Are you implying that you believe the servers are actually calculating how to render twinkles in the many different stars for every individual client? Or are you really worried about your own computers BUS data transfer latency regarding the twinkle?
All in all it is a pretty silly question and you being defensive and continue to dig yourself further into it is the reason for people accusing you of being a troll. We all ask stupid questions every now and then. It's preferable to never asking them and staying stupid.

The twinkling stars are caused by the power fluxuation that they produce when i draw energy via sup-space to power up my Jove Titans Sodastream.

Edited by: Confuzer on 23/01/2009 12:04:46 You guys are so ignorant!
The server streams, for all thousands stars, the intensity to ALL people logged in, and the stars are all rendered in real-time for each client. This is done by your client. The server itself only sents - colorchanges, 64 bit - twinkelconstants, Twinkelobject - calculations if another player somewhere in the eve universe is between you and a star, so the intensity of it goes down with 0.0000000000000000000001% depending of what size ship it is. Minmatar does less, because of all the holes.
But I can't see why this should generate lag... ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved. |
