Hello all, I'm back from and unexpected DT thanks to a dead PS.
I had acquired a new and exciting HD cooler for a 5.25 bay, when, guess what, it overloaded my PS.
So there I was, powerless, when it hit me: I can spend money to fix this!
Long story short: new power supplies have a LOT of cables. And my case is not as big as I thought it was. Hours later: here I am.
For those playing at home: I bought a PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610, and it's pretty awesome, now that I've got everything working.

Yeah, my current build i spent over an hour trying to get the cables 'managed' suitably.
I hope to god i never have to replace any of that stuff... At least my case is modular and i can remove all the drives from the front easily and stick a hand through that way to help me manipulate things.

They make modular power supplies that only require you to plug in what cables you actually use. I don't have one, but a friend says it's very nice. |

Well crap man, my Graphics card uses 3 times that at its peak.
Im running a 800 watt antec and Ive got all un needed cables tied. I do wish however that I had more cables, as Ive got a full size case, with 5 SATA ports, 4 bays for hard drives, 3 Optical drive bays, and 2 other bays for media card reader, or more hard drives etc.

My vid card uses 2-3 times less than that. I can connect 2 more harddrives, but then I run out of ports (except firewire or have to buy a hub) cuz I have a cooling pad and wireless keyboard + mouse connected at all times.

That's the power supply I have.
Have enough cables to fill every bay...and then some. But then I'd have the problem of, "Where do I put the cables?" All of my CD bays -1 are where I managed to stuff the extra ones...had I needed those bays, I wish I would have bought modular. But I don't even use the DVD drive as is, could have gone without it. (or I would use it had I not been ******ed and actually looked to see if it was a BURNER...could have bought a burner for the same price)

Yeah, I was in the same predicament. All of my bays are full, so I couldn't stuff them in there. Hell, I had to pull them out just to get the damn thing in. The nice thing about it are the nylon sleeves around the cables. This prevents getting others stuck in between them; though they are stiffer.
I was looking at modular, but all they had was 500 or below, and since I maxed out 400, I wanted more room for a future vid-card upgrade. And you can never have too many fans. |
