I just thought of an idea for a walking in stations addition regarding skill training. I thought maybe that when you enter the bar areas you could perhaps have your character start a conversation with someone elses character in which you can discuss a certain skill that the targeted player you are talking with has and you do not. For instance, my character "Joe" has Battleship lvl 4 skill, and I am training it to lvl V. I decide to talk to character "Pat" who has the lvl V Battleship skill. When i discuss this skill with him he actually teaches me which can increase learning time by so much % (maybe 50% b/c you can only learn from him while logged on and in discussion with him). A character can then decided whether they want to charge you for their teachings or not. You also gotta buy drinks at the bar lol. There can also be a skill to train for "teaching" others that could be an addition to your learning skills. This skill increases the teaching affect by 10% a level maybe? think about it! hopefully you understand what i was trying to say. |

That would be awesome, but I don't think CCP would put it in. Just doesn't seem like something that would work to me.. |

Technically, you shouldn't even be able to learn skills when outside your Pod. Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |

If it needs an explanation, you could be flash cloning to an ambulatory body, since this technology is not just relegated to pod pilots. The pod just makes it easier and cheaper, according to "story". But back on topic, I don't know about this....

Really? I'd actually like to see where that's written if you can remember. Not in a trolling sense, the back story can be quite interesting... sometimes. And to the OP, It would essentially add a grind mechanic for skills which I think EVE is trying to stay away from other wise it will cater less to the casual player and more to the logged on every second player. --- Trolling a forum near you.

Sounds like an incentive for people to just crowd up the stations with afk 'training' sessions. No.
Besides, Since normal eve learning is done through the implants, I'm guessing the addition of some verbal/interpersonal training would be pretty inconsequential anyways. |

This is a horrible idea.
Like most components in EVE, the whole idea is you need to make decisions. In the case of learning skills in this example of yours, it is an important decision to make of "what skill should I train now".
Accelerating training, or doing anything that takes away decision making, diminishes the decison making process thus making it less challenging, thus making it less fun of a game in the long run.
Too many people want the easy way out, not realizing that they are taking away the challenges the game presents. If you do not have a challenge and you do not have big decisions to make, you do not have a game that offers you a compelling reason to keep playing.

I think it's an excellent idea. After all, who is going to hang around a bar for the days on end it takes to train those kinds of skills? You might get a 50% speed boost for just an hour or two at most, So what does it matter to the veterans? At best, this would be an aid to new players to train the < 6 hour skills a bit more quickly.
Also, some requirements: "teacher" has to have the skill at level V. "student" has to actively request the training. "teacher" has to agree to the training request. Must have an active conversation window open. If nothing is said for x minutes, via EVE Voice or text, the session ends.
Boost training speed like 20-30% while in that state. If either walks out of the bar/zone/space, together or separately, the training session ends.
Bit of a rough idea, but a little more refined than the original. Care to take it further, CCP? |

I have enough skills to train. I really do not want to skill things for stations. |

this would not work well, with this you would have a huge amount of people afk training, grab a friend with such and such skill that takes 25 days to train, come back every so often to type 1 letter or so. also you could have 1 guy training like 15 noobs at once, would be very unbalanced and screw things up

If the idea is implemented as a kind of tutor system I think it could be awesome..
Each skill you had could have a pupil linked to it leeching the knowledge.
In background story it would be other pilots linking and downloading from your ship while you walk around. Access can only be granted while actively walking in the station, and the only effect would be increadsed skillpoints granted per minute. When you leave skill training returns to normal training time.
This would motivate players to actually interact at stations, due to tutor slots needs and demand of tutorlege at different skills.
Players could even ask for payment for the service..
I think its a great motivational and metagame enhancing possibility..
