Ok so until yesterday I was a hi sec mish runner, I would mind my own business and had a beautiful Kronos with some gorgeous faction fittings total worth 2.1 billion approx. If i got visited by salvage theives I would just shout a bit in local and leave them to it.... until ...
Yesterday i got visited by a very clever guy who baited me so well I am still feeling a little sick from the experience I lost it all and now kinda need to give Eve a break ... or ....
I could maybe start doing this as a profession, lets face it I have been a lamb waiting for the slaughter and it has finally happened - I was bored with mish running anyway - little challenge and ok the rewards were ok but nothing spectacular.
So my question to you is how do I now go about getting skilled up to start f*cking with others, all my skills are PVE based and all gallente so no missiles ewar etc. What ship is reccomended for a good tank but still fitting mofo big guns and still able to ecm/scramble/
And is there any way I can do this as a profession in hi sec? I have no pvp experience so am a lot nervous about moving to lo sec just to have same sh*t happen to me all over again lol
All your thoughts are welcome and I know I am a carebear at heart so please dont flame me to tell me that - I know it was just a matter of time too - so don't tell me that either I WAS a carebear now I am a grumpy man with a lot of skills with a need to find something else to do in eve.
Btw he didnt honour the ransom either 200 mill wasted there ... awesome day it was for me yesterday lol |

quote- 'I could maybe start doing this as a profession'
You havent really expressed exactly what profession you wish to endevour.. if u mean ninja salvaging/slaying mission runners, i would first concentrate on probing skills-u gta find them first u know
In regards to bigship/guns- considering the 'mark' will be tanking damage (think of your own experiences), the answer is there for you to figure out- also chat to ppl who actually make a profession out of this, good example being Suddenly Ninjas (T.E.A.R.S) , and read the forums more

the bait was turning up in a little ol frig and being really rude when when i convoed him - he tried to bait me with salvaging my wrecks and i ignored that and docked leaving him to soak up dmg from the NPC BS's (which amounted to none lol) i undocked and waroped back in and he seems to be trying to take down a BS and failing really badly - not taking damage but not inflicting any either (making me think he was harmless kinda). He tells me that he is gonna kill the bs - steal the loot and then kill me ... and I am ****ing myself laughing - surely this ****y little frig cant hurt me ... anyway after a few mins he warps out calling me a coward and I think he's just a bit of a **** - kill the bs, salvage it etc, and move into the next room where he then joins me with loads of npc recon ships, cruiser etc ... he steals loot - flashes red and I think "ah f*ck it i will leave him to be killed by the warp scramming recons ... i jump out - dock and he is flashing red so i can kill him ... yeah right! i return to the gate and wammo - i am scrammed and being hammered by mofo dmg missiles, i send out drones which do 0 dmg, i shoot him with my 325 rails not hiiting of course as hes orbitting way close ... anyway he ransoms me then kills my ship, and i am gutted as it was 3 yrs work gone into it :(
To be honest I dont think i wd have minded so much if he hadnt ransomed me too. i knew i was beaten the second he slung the missiles at me i just wanted to keep my ship intact.
Now i am sure many of u reading this are geetting hard ons now and thinking what a great idea .. and yeah i think he had a great plan and executed it really well, I am not passing judgement on him - actually i am - pirates should honour ransoms simple as that - you know we are beat - we know we are beat .. take the money and show some decency lol
Ignore that last comment I am still grumpy

just as another thought I mean wtf are mish runners sposed to do other than die .. i mean we dont go into lo sec , we cant fight a pvp fitted ship, we can't do anything except finance pirates to buy more cheap frigates .. seriously guys where's the challenge in that? If you chose lo sec mish runners then yeah ok but jesus what are we sposed to do ... well i know what i am gonna do - change my career - but even then - i need money ... piracy doesnt pay well from what i read (although my mods will keep this guy happy for a long time) so then i need to do what he does which has no fairness about it ... pah ! |

Good luck, I would read as much as you can,
get some smaller less expensive ships
and go kill some people until you get the hang of it.
I would strongly recommend getting a wing man for this type of work. I hate to say this again but for 8 mil Agony will give you some pointers and tips on fighting. I recommend these guys because i have fought them in the past. They do well with this and will teach you many things. After that i would try faction warfare.
This will give you much insight and needed experiance in fighting other players. There is no UBER ship that can handle everything.
A Heavy inderictor has a serious tank and not so much DPS. It is worth looking into to train.
I am sorry for your loss. I wish you much luck and many targets in the future. Do not get discourged, but seek some revenge

yeah i got a hardon from this story thanks for writing it out
looks like you were doing well running missions, however, you just have to resist the urge to shoot red blinky things on overview when you have a pve fit
and yes if you shoot at someone who is baiting you, it is in his plans to make you die, and it does not matter if you're in high sec running missions or somewhere on the outskirts of 0.0 space
i suggest you head to recruitment forum and see if you can find a corp of like-minded players there to help you make your first steps into piracy

You *can* fight a pvp fitted ship, you just won't win half the time. You * could * always just not undock when someone is salvaging and looting.
I suppose mission runners will never learn

As the guys before said, look for a wingman or even a corp, which can help you on your way to learn pvp.
I think you should just get a cheap frigate, some t1 stuff and fitting and go into lowsec. Pop some other noobs and get better with every fight - it is not really important if you die or not, you'll learn with every charge you fire at someone.
Fly missions to compensate the sec hits ... or get a life in lowsec. your decision, your fights, your fun. :) |

Hi there, Sorry for youre loss mate. It sucks, But unfortunately thats the harsh reality in Eve. I'd join a pirate corp and start flying T1 cruisers. You can fit a T1 cruiser to do a fair bit of damage if you set it up right. You fly Gallente right? Go get a Thorax, Fit some Neutron/Ion blasters to it, Scram, web, 3 x Mag stab, Exp hardener, 800mm plate, 5 x Vespa EC-600 ECM drones and away you go. Go have some fun. I'd take up one of the offers you have here if i were you. As soon as you start popping ships you will love it. Good luck for the future mate and i hope you go have some fun. Saul

Wait wait wait, you lost a 2.1 billion ISK Kronos to a frigate? Am I reading this right?
Would it be cruel or appropriate to laugh?
I suppose it doesn't matter, I'm laughing anyways. Thanks for brightening up my day.

I can attest to this. I was a cuddly huggable carebear at the start of my Eve carer. I was a mission runner with nary a thought of doing anything untold (can flipping, mission salvage stealing, podding, etc..). But then I met Raven. He, along with with the help of Mave Insectum, turned me to the dark side. I have even gotten to the point I will pod a corp mate without a second thought.
And now my two favorite things in Eve are the sound of a pod being squished and the noise a mission runner makes in local after their ship goes boom. The third favorite is making a war target pay ransom and then blowing his ship up and podding him. That's always a fun read.
And what you think are pirates in High Sec are just Income Redistribution Experts. Because there are no pirates in High Sec. |

Buy some cheap frigates, play around with PvP fits, take them down to low sec and get popped a few times (if you can make some isk to cover your loses while your down there even better).
Once your get to the point you can see a red blinky without a huge adrenaline rush turning you into a gibbering wreck you may start realising when you need to run and when you fight - and you may start winning some. Hopefully you'll also start thinking about how to use the terrain (like making interceptors go into the belts after you to try and make them bump and slow down).
At the point your ready to start risking a bit more in order to up the adrenaline fix again.
