I was actually thinking something more direct. Take a marauder. Drop all turret and launcher hardpoints. Swap bonuses for the ones described in thread. (100% Mining Drone Yield bonus per level of 'Drone Mining Ship') 50 m3 dronebay / 25 bandwidth Put the Ore hold for 8k m3 Set a cargo hold for 200 m3
(We don't want this thing cross training to be a replacement for the blockade runner either) |

I would say since it's focusing all its yield in drones, then it should have a fwe turret/missile slots, but no bonuses towards combat. This would give it a small bit of self defense for belt rats, and also make them more functional for low/null sec mining. |

This ship should be able to mount a perpetual active tank to balance out any rat spawn likely to show up in a belt.
The only concern I can see, is that the miner may be concerned about their defense being pushed too hard if anyone shows up for 'surprise non-consensual pvp' while the rats are also shooting. If that's the case, they should consider a means to kill the rats off, like swapping to a fighting ship.
I would say in many cases the rats would not be likely to pose a serious enough threat to worry about, but some people want ideal situations. |

I was thinking that it could only use small drones, and any threat from rats considered serious may not be solved by a set of those. (I am carefully avoiding giving this boat anything above minimal offensive ability. People have proved to be remarkably clever at using ships beyond their intended use)
As for high slots, it does have them. Salvagers and tractor beams do not use hardpoints to mount, so can be easily fitted. |

Just don't give it any combat drone bonuses (except maybe HP, because that would make mining drones more viable).
An unbonused flight of T2 Scout Drones can deal with highsec faction spawns if you have the tank for it. If you need more combat oomph than that you should be in a fleet anyway. |

I really don't like the idea of giving this ship an EHP of anything larger than 50k. At that point it's not invincible, but at the same time, it's not so paper thin that a stiff breeze could take it out.
ORE is loosely affiliated with Gallente (very loosely), so, start with a Myrmidon or Brutix, reduce the slot layout to a few utility highs, 3-4 mids and 3-4 lows. Keep the shields and hull, drop the armour for a bigger cargo.
Let it be configured in such a way that it can become really vulnerable and mine a lot or a brick that needs industrial support.
I fully support the idea of an mining drone focused ship with lots of bonuses, but it should never be 'invincible'. |

The only issue I see with a mining drone boat is that i don't believe fleet bonuses apply to mining drones.
So either CCP would have to set them so they did, or CCP would have to design a new fleet boost module specifically for mining drones. |

I am using the guidelines for a ratting ship to influence a mining ship. If the ratting ship was truly useful at PvP, I think it would be seen there a lot more than it is.
As to fleet bonuses, they should really use a Hulk. This ship is designed to never replace a Hulk in a fleet. The Hulk, however, has not been happy outside of fleets, where this ship is designed to perform. |
