The real classic one was when Shanzem (or however his name is spelled), worked out that the secret of warping out fast when targeted in a fleet fight was due to fitting cargo expanders.
Hahaha yeah I remember that one. He was convinced it was how BoB warp out fast nothing to do with being aligned to warp out when taking fire...

Cyvok owns rights to ASCN right? Please someone get those rights. I would do anything to see the rebirth of ASCN. I'm not kidding. I'd dedicate my corp to its rebuilding. ASCN is seriously the only alliance i've ever looked up too. All else i've just looked down on. Please we need to get it back up so we can see class back in eve. |

I guess you never read the Director/CEO forums. Basically, the Alliance was, in my opinion with other ex-ASCN directors, a glorified scam.
With that said, it did bring a lot of people into 0.0 which is a good thing. It also make eve a boring game for many people, causing people to leave eve. Paying $$$ to shoot roids and unscripted no-AI NPC rats does not appeal to everybody.
Well I think that was a symptom of the real problem, the "too many chief's" disease. Cyvok let corps into the alliance, and then kept everyone doing thier own seperate things. So there were corps that only had very little input from the top and while they were contributing a little there wasn't a great deal of unity of purpose.
IMHO Bob learned the secret of effective alliance running early on by figuring out that you can only have a handful of corps and therefore a handful of familiar faces in leadership. Cyvok was really reluctant to shut down corps and fold them into the existing structure.
So I see that ASCN's problems were in its structure, not in its ideals nor its ambitions.
That and we needed to do all diplomacy through someone with a spellcheck (Sorry Cy, that was your greatest weakness).

Edited by: Canine Fiend on 01/02/2009 22:00:11 Well, I for one would like to see ASCN dead and buried. It was a nice concept, but at the same time, it just didn't work with the state of online gaming today. It's like trying to form a utopia in today's world, it just won't work. As a side note, Ethan Kel isn't the brightest and if anyone can make ASCN 2.0 Fail, it's him.

Originally by: Gierling Well I think that was a symptom of the real problem, the "too many chief's" disease.
ASCN went down due to a combination of many reasons. Even if Bob had not invaded, the alliance would have barely lasted another few months before falling apart. It was not really an alliance, it was just a collection of solo players and random corps with a common chat channel.
With that said, its the first time I have heard that "too many cheif's" was a contributing factor. If anything, a lot of people regared one major reason being the reverse.
Anyhow ASCN gone and with it, the concept of a super carebear alliance holding conquorable space for the long term. Which is a good thing. |

Pretty much consisted of me trying not to say how ****ing good it was especially as we didn't have to deal with the crap in feyth.
Come to think of it any thread with John McCreedy in it was a classic.
It's too bad STK was led by a few greedy mofos without any sense of patriotism toward ASCN. They milked their members who didn't know better, and they had so many T2 BPOs they could have provided the entire alliance with enough T2 mods @ cost to win the war against BoB. Morons.
They ****ed off many corps because of their greediness, and now they have hundreds of billions worth of T2 BPO worth nothing compared to then, their two outposts they built in Goon's hands and after the alliance they started failed, they're now "entering a new era", which basically means they're hoping to get in any alliance that will tolerate them.
John was a classy dude and Tessa just made everything much more enjoyable though. ASCN was a great time but I regret it had to be with STK.

Yeah cos you mining all day long while others chased hostiles was a prime example of true ASCNer's/ites???
John was and still probably is an idiot. Tessa made freighter ops bearable with her lovely voice.
I milked stuff because I came from RA and couldn't give a flying turd either way, weirdly I got promoted because shock horror I pvp'd. Next thing I knew loads of old STK dirs went afk and tried to direct from forums leaving me as CEO. How I lol'd until Star Wolf came in and nabbed stuff before I could.
What seemingly alot of idiots keep spouting though is how STK ripped them off waa waa, when the reality is they were offered at build cost to CEO/DIRS to pass on to their corp mates. Reality was that nearly all of them decided to either keep them for themselves or ripped off their own corpies while pointing the finger at STK. Last couple of weeks in ASCN I remember chucking them at people for free just to get some BS in a gang.
PS. Don't make me dig out chatlogs about you whining about ore prices/pvping.

Edited by: Leuthispar on 04/02/2009 18:29:28 Ill be honest I had my good times in ASCN I had just started to play eve, and like someone said it was a cool way to get into .0 and learn basics.
But WTF scam was going on, we had a few high ends moons, we had like almost every t2 bpo in the game( before invention, making epic isk), about a quadrillion pos running reactions, alliance mining ops where everythin went to corp/alliance and god forbid you asked to buy a t2 ship/mod from corp cuz it was like WTFGOTOJITANOOB. And then you had the market full of Helens overmarking everything :).
So yea apart from 1 titan and a few cls-f dreads, ASCN was like most alliances besides the smart ones BOB/PL/MM who actually put the alliance profits to good use, a big scam so the top 10 get all the riches to please their own personal needs. Dont think we need one more of those plenty around nowadays.

Would be very hard for me not to admit I wasn't a miner Even 3 years later with the experience I was right to whine, because we WERE getting milked. I just didn't know yet I was worth better Besides ASCN was a carebear alliance, it's the only way we could have built the first titan ever and lose the first titan ever And STK was never PvP oriented until the end, in fact was the opposite.
I can say I laughed when Star Wolf scammed them, it was well deserved. I bet CLS was happy too after they tried to get STK to provide T2 @ cost+10% but STK would only offer Jita - 10% and thought we should worship them for such an important discount
However, STK had a good bunch of guys, I still talk to Cass and Defa was a good director! c/d?

SJ, goon life is nothing like you make it out to be. I would much rather be a goon than be anchored to a corp where the leadership refuses to let the corp grow. I loved ASCN, I loved CLS...but damn, let it grow. Join a real alliance again if you can and build it back up already. Quit letting CR control it...
Cyvok, get your ass back in game and start playing, no matter what corp you're in, so long as it's not friendly to bob.
No skill in titans? True, but there is also no skill in getting blobbed to death either. There needs to be a balance...
Goons were keeping AAA/SE/RO/COVEN at bay till they ran to BOB for help, which is when our Allies starting showing up. I believe our allies wanted to just grape bob more than help us imo. <3 them anyway.

Hehe, not just STK. I cannot think of a single ASCN corp that did not have somebody in leadership that was not milking their members. I always wondered how long it would take people to work out that corp ops with no obvious output are just slave ops, but I guess some things just never get questioned.
I remember a funny conversation I had with a few ceo's & directors in the ASCN Leadership channel, where a few of them gave up escrow scamming since running a carebear corp as a 'Honest Joe CEO' is more profitable and respectable. Its not really their fault to a extent, since too many people play eve to become the equivalant of a medieval serf looking for a Lord to work for.
Heck, even I stuck a few fingers in when I relised that some people just like being work slaves. After moving a freightor of highends, I was going to keep it, but I just decided to split the cash with anybody who pvped in my corp. Yep, thats all of the cash..... Honest! |
