Considering that the cloning mechanism works by relaying a complete mental scan through the interstellar communications network based on the gates, and that wormhole space will have no gates or compatible infrastructure.
It only makes sense that being podded in Wspace should lead to the long hard sleep.
IMHO it would really establish wormhole space as a mechanic for newer players, and keep the "ancients" from monopolizing it like they do all other new content.
I know I sure as **** wouldn't step foot in a place with permadeath with my main.

FTL communication FTL!
Eve backstory establishes that the FTL communication requires specialized paired equipment. IE there is a communications network that you must be hooked into to use it. You still use non-ftl communication to transmit the data to a nearby station or gate which relays the data.
No nearby stations or gates in the network, and your signal won't be recieved and forwarded. |

Warpdrives also require insanely specialized equipment. But the pod has it.

All pods will be equipped with a "brainscan messenger drone".
Deployed upon pod destruction, it will fly at speeds up to 50 AU/sec thru W-space and any wormholes that it can find until K-space is reached. Upon entering K-space it will then transmit its data which will eventually wind up in your clone's brain.
The brainscan messenger drone will weigh less than 1 kg and have a signature radius of 10 cm, thus preventing it from causing wormhole collapse and making it impossible to target and destroy.
Or something like that.

FTL communication has no distance limit. Your pod has such a device. |

Players will just train up throwaway alts to send into W-space. And I thought one's brainscan would be transmitted back through the wormhole and received at the nearest stargate anyway. |

This architecture is similarly to the ancient Internet.

A thought occurred to me. Lets say you jump into Wspace and have your probe launcher like a good little explorer. Then you get blown up by an npc. The npc won't pod you, and there is no way to kill yourself. How would you jump back into your medical clone?

Taking bets on how many days (hours more like) before CCP is forced to create some sort of automatic petition checker and generic response for "halp I'm stuck in w-space and can't get out, please move me" or "you guys suck, I can't get home!" etc.

Because they don't want you too for game mechanic reasons. So here is the official RP answer. Originally by: CCP Greyscale
Originally by: Clansworth I am not much of a role-player, but I do see value in stuff being somewhat based on some sort of pseudo-science or whatever. Basically, when the game provides a restriction, the reasoning for said restriction should not be, 'because that wouldn't make this the way we envisioned it'. My first example of this is the Jump Clones. Basically, the reason you say they will not be allowed is because the only way in and out will be through the wormholes. That's all well and good, but is inconsistent with the fact that normal medical clones will still function. What strange phenomenon could there be that would prevent jump clones, but allow emergency medical clone jumps?
Off the top of my head, exotic radiation in these new systems makes non-destructive brain-scanning extremely dangerous, as the slower process used in jump clones to avoid killing the clone is very vulnerable to certain radiation types interfering with the instruments and corrupting the scan.

Uh, will there be stations in Wspace? It would be awful hard to JC if there aren't any stations... but I'm not paying much attention to the details of it, so if there will be stations out there, ignore me. |

BZZZZT!
Sorry, in this case the technobabble fails, as the routers require RELAYS to cross systems (i.e. the jump gates form these relays).
There are no relays in W-space.
Therefore, once you cross the wormhole you CANNOT count on your "router" having any access at all to the rest of the network - again, ust like the ancient Internet without some kind of a router or, as it's called, a "gateway" - there's no connection, thereofre no data transfer, thus possible permadeath without SOMETHING.
Now, if you wanted to posit that your ship automatically DROPPED a tempo relay once it emerged fromt eh wormhole - now, that would be a different story, and one fitting with the LOLore..being that all ship sized above frigate are MASSIVEL overdone, this is at least a possibility. |
