A lot of people forget that Google is an invaluable source of searching. Well, you can use it to search within these forums by placing the following in the search box:
site:oldforums.eveonline.com/ YourSearchWords (2008.*) -WordsNotToSearch
YourSearchWords refers to the search words you want to search against (e.g. manually configuring UI)
WordsNotToSearch refers to the words you want to exclude from your search (e.g. nvidia)
So, if I wanted to use my example (e.g.) above I would type:
site:oldforums.eveonline.com/ manually configuring UI (2008.*) -nvidia
This will give me a complete list of topics (only from this forum) and no other place on the web.
So what is that (2008.*) in the parens for?
You can search by date by using wildcards like (2008.*) which means any topic in the year 2008. Likewise, you could type (200*.*) and it would pickup any year in the 200x range. I just wanted to make all of you aware of Google's advanced searching mechanisms and how you can apply the search parameters to this or any other site you browse that doesn't contain advanced searching mechanisms for their forums.
Enjoy.

Eve-Search doesn't pull the type of threads nor does it contain the advanced search mechanisms that google has. In one line, you can reference any keywords, remove any keywords, and check out content by any date, and during any time. In addition, eve-search can't search against other forums that use EVE that don't contain search areas.
Again, google works with advanced site entry parameters as I stated above. Test it out and you'll understand why it's an invaluable source.
Also, when someone offers some input to be helpful, it is better to be civil than to throw out quaint comments like eve-search > you. That just tells everyone you are some kid trying to badger or berate or incite on the forums. In otherwords, grow up kid.

Yeah, let's just prove you wrong there. Run the following comparison:
Go to Eve-search.com and type in "Lothros Andastar nubs" and click search.
Go to google.com and type paste in site:oldforums.eveonline.com/ Lothros Andastar nubs and click search.
And, this is why Google search is better than Eve-search. |

Another example...
I want to search for "UI configuration" but I only want to keep my focus on posts that were started in January of 2009.
Go to search-eve.com and type in UI configuration (you get 5 pages of junk)
Go to google.com and type in:
site:oldforums.eveonline.com/ UI configuration (2009.01.*)
.. you get 1 page (10 results) all located in January of 2009.
Again, I hope someone finds this information useful. For understanding query inputs with google, go to: http://www.googleguide.com/category/query-input/

Thanks, Alpha. EVE-search is good but sometimes doesn't work for me or gives a ****load of results.
And it's handy for searching other stuff as well.

Thing is, Chribba and his services simply are considered invaluable with an untouchable integrity for the playerbase and thus simply noone wants to/will even try to use anything else. Granted, he's done more than anyone else for this community. Still it's always a good idea to keep the eyes peeled for other useful tools!
On a final note, I suspect you either work for, or own, Google.

Heh, I wish I worked for Google, or owned Stock with them. :)
Nah, I'm a former sysadmin for Charles Schwab and when you have to do a lot of troubleshooting and need quick fast searches, you have to be able to streamline those searches quickly and translate that into resolution..
This page right here:
http://www.googleguide.com/advanced_operators.html
.. will tell you everything you ever need to know about google searching. There are some interesting command line parameters other than site: as well.
And, most welcome! |

For those who don't want to type it out every time just put the basic 'site:oldforums.eveonline.com/' into the search field then hit search and bookmark the result. From then on just select the bookmark and add in your search text and variables.

There's no need for another exclamation mark here.

Yes, this is the best way to do it. I actually do it slightly different from yours. I bookmark the following:
site:oldforums.eveonline.com/ GOOGLE (2008.*.*)
.. and name the bookmark EVE-Google-Search
Then when you bring the bookmark up you just double click the GOOGLE word, input your search terms and change the date or erase the date. I tend to use the date parameters a lot because it works well. |

tbh anything that makes finding info easier is for the better, be it google, eve-search, any other function or even ccp's own, they all are great assets imo. |

EDIT: corrections
You can't do that unfortunately. Not with a site that uses extended URL querying. But, if you want to get information (just in the title) you can use the following query:
inurl:*channel*channelID*page* site:/oldforums.eveonline.com/ google
.. where google is the search term you want to find in a title on any of the forums. Try it out and you'll see it works. The important note is to not change the inurl that I placed above. You can also bookmark this search and call it Eve-Google-Title-Search.
Enjoy.
